Seoul, Korea, July 2, 2016 – Korea have been taking full advantage of the home ground at the
FIVB Volleyball World League 2016
Group 2 tournament in
Seoul so far. Led by Jae-Duck Seo, the hosts managed to secure their second win at home. The 3-2 (26-24, 25-20, 23-25, 28-30, 15-13) victory over Egypt was also Korea’s second in their eight games since the start of the season.
Jae-Duck Seo contributed as many as 26 points to Korea’s success, assisted by Hak-Min Kim with another 21.
Ahmed Elkotb was Egypt’s most prolific player with 22 points.
This was Korea’s fifth win in five matches against Egypt in World League history.
With Seo hammering out seven spikes and two aces, Korea edged out Egypt in the very tight first set, which ended in overtime – 26-24 Korea’s way.
The home team’s spikers continued to dominate in the second set leading towards the eventual 25-20, which doubled the
Korean lead.
It was time for Egypt to strike back.
The North African servers (3 aces) and blockers (5 stuff blocks) were on fire in the third set and helped their team win it by 25-23.
Another tight set was on its way.
Despite Seo’s 11 spiking points for Korea, Egypt’s sub
Mohamed Thakil’s three aces and another six points from the blockers led to an
Egyptian triumph at the end of the extended set – 30-28
.
In the tie-breaker, the African team was way too abundant in the unforced
error department, which cost them the full comeback. Korea took advantage to win the set by 15-10 and the match by 3-2.
