Genesis are an English rock band formed at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey in 1967. The most commercially successful line-up includes keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford and drummer/singer Phil Collins. Other important members were singer Peter Gabriel and guitarist Steve Hackett. The band underwent many changes in musical style over its career, from folk music to progressive rock in the 1970s, before moving towards pop at the end of the decade. They have sold 21.5 million RIAA-certified albums in the US and their worldwide sales are estimated to be between 100 million and 130 million.
Formed by five Charterhouse pupils including Banks, Rutherford, Gabriel, and Anthony Phillips, Genesis was named by former pupil Jonathan King who arranged them to record several unsuccessful singles and an album. After splitting with King, the group began touring professionally, signing with Charisma Records. Following the departure of Phillips, Genesis recruited Collins and Hackett and recorded several progressive rock style albums, with live shows centred around Gabriel's theatrical costumes and performances. The group were initially commercially successful in Europe, before entering the UK charts with Foxtrot (1972). They followed this with Selling England by the Pound (1973) and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (1974) before Gabriel decided to leave the group.
A classic live performance from the legendary band's sold out tour.

Genesis Live is the first live album released by progressive rock band Genesis in 1973. The band had not planned to release a live album at the time, but a decision of the Charisma Records label resulted in the release of the album while the band was recording Selling England by the Pound in mid-1973. This record represents the only legitimate concert recording of the band (with Peter Gabriel on vocals) in 25 years. The tracks were recorded at De Montfort Hall, Leicester, on February 25, 1973 (except for "Return of the Giant Hogweed", recorded in Manchester the day before), while the band was on tour to support the album Foxtrot. A digitally remastered version was released on CD in 1994 by Virgin Records in Europe and Atlantic Records in the United States. 01. "Watcher of the Skies" -- 00...

Originally airing in 2008, this A&E; Biography of "Genesis" covers the band from the Peter Gabriel era all way into the "When in Rome" tour of 2007. Though, not very in depth, this documentary gives its viewers a nice summary and overview of the band's beginning, progression, and farewell reunion tour.
Foxtrot is the fourth studio album by English progressive rock band Genesis and the second from the band line-up which included Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, Phil Collins, and Steve Hackett.

A Note from Phil: For those of you NOT alive and kicking around during the 80's it must be hard to believe that things like video cameras, portable phones and suchlike, weren't always paper thin and easy to carry around. In the days were the mobile phone was the size of a household brick (and weighing about the same),and the batteries had to be stored in a truck outside your house, I bought a video camera. Being a "fly on the wall" while recording was almost impossible. When you walked in the room holding the large camera on your shoulder, and carrying the recorder around your neck, it was hard to "blend in" with the wallpaper. And so it was that in 1983, having bought this new technology, I decided to record for posterity (plus actually just to see if I could work it) the new Genesis ...
