The killer whale (Orcinus orca), also referred to as the orca whale or orca, and less commonly as the blackfish or grampus, is a toothed whale belonging to the oceanic dolphin family, of which it is the largest member. Killer whales are found in all oceans, from Arctic and Antarctic regions to tropical seas. Killer whales have a diverse diet, although individual populations often specialize in particular types of prey. Some feed exclusively on fish, while others hunt marine mammals like pinnipeds, and even large whales. They have been known to attack baleen whale calves. Killer whales are regarded as apex predators, lacking natural predators.
Killer whales are highly social; some populations are composed of matrilineal family groups which are the most stable of any animal species. Their sophisticated hunting techniques and vocal behaviours, which are often specific to a particular group and passed across generations, have been anthropomorphically described as manifestations of culture.
This was an incredible encounter. I just happened to be in the right spot at the right time. It's very rare that everything comes together and we're able to document these types of encounters. We know it happens regularly with the common dolphins. But there's rarely someone there with their video camera focused and waiting for it to happen. Incredible morning on The Monterey Bay for me. Killer Whales vs. Fin Whale. In this rare event, a pod of killer whales hunt and kill a large fin whale. Most the time the fin whales anti-predatory defense strategy keeps it safe, but this time it falls prey to the pod. In the middle of February, the sea lions receive the second visit of their most feared predators – the killer whales. The orcas also have young who must be taught how to hunt, and the peninsula is the best training ground. The sea lion colonies are full of young, inexperienced pups, playing on the shore, and hundreds of adults going into and out of the sea to feed. Food is everywhere, and what’s more it’s easy to catch. With the enemy around, everyone is on their guard. This is a single family group, and it’s on the watch, scanning the beach in search of prey. They won’t have to wait long. After waiting for them to pass by, a sea lion decides to enter the sea. The female leading the group of orcas has seen it, and they all turn back. It’s the chance they had been waiting for. The se...

A couple vacationing in Mexico encountered a number of killer whales swimming alongside their boat during a trip.
A seal narrowly escaped being eaten by some hungry killer whales. The mammal jumped onto the back of a tour boat to escape the swarming pod of orcas.
Orcas Vs Shark: Killer Whales Take Down Tiger Shark SUBSCRIBE: We upload a new incredible video every weekday. Subscribe to our YouTube channel so you don't miss out: http://bit.ly/Oc61Hj A POD of killer whales have been filmed for the first time hunting and killing a TIGER SHARK. The footage, which is believed to be a world-first, was captured off the coast of Costa Rica by underwater photographer Caroline Power and British marine biologist Nicholas Bach. It shows three killer whales working as a team to force the panicked shark to the surface, wearing it down and taking opportunistic bites at its fins. Eventually, a large bull moves in to deliver the death blow while flipping the shark onto its back in the process - which induces a state of paralysis known as tonic immobility. The pod t...

We were out with the family looking for whales and a pod of 12 trainsiet killer whales where chasing the seal. It ripped towards the boat in a desperate escape and scrambled on the deck. It fell of three times in panic and finally stayed on untill the whales gave up after about 30-45 minutes. Most intense epic experience ever. Love you Nature. I love dreaming
I love passion
I love fever
I have a father whom my name
has come from
So, I'm not another one
Killer Whales in giant waves
We've never thought in other
ways
In another shore somebody waves
There is a limit
How much we can hurry
How far we get carried
The rain doesn't care
If you can't swim to another party
I'm so sorry
Tip, tip, tap
Blue apples fall
I never thought
I'd let an apple
fall
