Mayflies are insects which belong to the Order Ephemeroptera (from the Greek ephemeros = "short-lived", pteron = "wing", referring to the brief lifespan of adults). They have been placed into an ancient group of insects termed the Palaeoptera, which also contains dragonflies and damselflies. They are aquatic insects whose immature stage (called "naiad" or, colloquially, "nymph") usually lasts one year in freshwater. The adults are short-lived, from a few minutes to a few days depending on the species. About 2,500 species are known worldwide, including about 630 species in North America. Common names for mayflies include "dayfly", "shadfly", "Green Bay fly", "lake fly" (in the Great Lakes region of North America), and "Canadian soldier".
Eggs are laid on the surface of lakes or streams, and sink to the bottom. Naiads moult 20 to 30 times over a period of a few months up to a year, depending on the species. The naiads live primarily in streams under rocks, decaying vegetation, or in the sediment. Few species live in lakes, but they are among the most prolific. For example, the emergence of one species of Hexagenia was recorded on doppler weather radar along the shores of Lake Erie.
Everythings complete, the newly wed syndrome.
The mayfly hit the street, everybody in plus.
Burnt out as can be, watching you go home.
It's crystal clear to me, you no longer need us.
It's OK we'll come around.
Now there's nothing left for us, we're packing up, saying goodbye.
To a place no one can trust. To a scene based on a lie.
I truly hope we won't retreat. The same mistake we won't repeat.
The bond was stabile as a shed.
Love is mutual, love is dead.
Everything went great with lot's of beginners luck.
The mayfly on a skate, timing in perfection.
Bored out as can be, monkey's getting stuck.
The four of us agreed we need to follow the action,
where ever that might be...
Here I go, I'm tired about what all you say.
-Just one show, you owe it to the kids, so play!
That's all bull, the main thing's that we're having fun!
Said and done, said and done, I don't owe a shit to anyone.
Mayfly mayfly
Dying to get born
Mayfly mayfly
Dying to get born
Oh mayfly
Your wings are tired
And they're torn
Mayfly mayfly
Only last a while
Mayfly mayfly
Only last a while
Oh mayfly
You take your little cup
And drink it dry
Mayfly born in the springtime baby
Never gonna see the fall
One sweet night on silver wings
And never come back at all
Mayfly born in the midnight darling
Never gonna see the day
Take a little time to fall in love
And then he goes on his way
Mayfly mayfly
Life's a sweet little thing
Mayfly mayfly
Life's a sweet little thing
Oh mayfly
Lovesick on a sunny afternoon
You are tired of stopping in
You are waiting for the time
Mayfly, woken up when skys are clear
I don't mind you coming near
Keep me company till she comes again
You are the one who's privy to
I am the one who's making do
Because you saw him in the park
Because you saw him at the bridges with the people in the park
Cana was the start of something big
You were there in the beginning
You were there to see him play
Mayfly, woken up when sky's are blue
I don't mind the sight of you
Keep me company till she comes around
You are the one who's privy to
I am the one who's making do
Because you saw him at the celebrations standing at the side
He had the moves to save the day
But you would love him anyway
Lovesick, it came back upon yourself
You are the girl left on the shelf
You are incapable of playing the fool
Longing:so what's different today?
You sent the boys and girls away
You are concerned with matters lofty
But puzzled so it makes you sick
Your diary's looking like a bible with it's verses lost in time
And lost in meaning for the people who surround you
It's a crying shame
The fly
Of may
It lives
One day
When that day is done
The mayfly does not complain
It flies into the setting sun
It goes back to the place
>From which it came
The fly
Of may
Ask how
Ask why
One day
May fly
That's all
You get
You give
No thought
To it
Me, my life is long
With reasons few like you
When i go, and when i'm gone
I will understand these things
I never knew
The fly
Of may
One day one day one day one day
It's long enough
If you really think about it
The fly
Of may
It lives
