The Barbican Centre is a performing arts centre in the City of London and the largest of its kind in Europe. The Centre hosts classical and contemporary music concerts, theatre performances, film screenings and art exhibitions. It also houses a library, three restaurants, and a conservatory. The Barbican Centre is member of the Global Cultural Districts Network.
The London Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra are based in the Centre's Concert Hall. In 2013, it once again became the London-based venue of the Royal Shakespeare Company following the company's departure in 2001.
The Barbican Centre is owned, funded, and managed by the City of London Corporation, the third-largest artsfunder in the United Kingdom. It was built as The City's gift to the nation at a cost of £161 million (equivalent to £480 million in 2014) and was officially opened to the public by Queen Elizabeth II on 3 March 1982. The Barbican Centre is also known for its brutalist architecture.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (Urdu/Punjabi: نصرت فتح علی خان; 13 October 1948 – 16 August 1997) was a Pakistani musician, primarily a singer of Qawwali, the devotional music of the Sufis. Considered one of the greatest voices ever recorded, he possessed an extraordinary range of vocal abilities and could perform at a high level of intensity for several hours. Extending the 600-year old Qawwali tradition of his family, Khan is widely credited with introducing Qawwali music to international audiences. He is popularly known as "Shahenshah-e-Qawwali", meaning "The King of Kings of Qawwali".
Born in Faisalabad, Khan had his first public performance at the age of 16, at his father's chelum. He became the head of the family qawwali party in 1971. He was signed by Oriental Star Agencies, Birmingham, England, in the early 1980s. Khan went on to release movie scores and albums in Europe, India, Japan, Pakistan, and the US. He engaged in collaborations and experiments with Western artists, becoming a well-known world music artist. He toured extensively, performing in over 40 countries.
The Barbican Centre celebrates 30 years of contribution to the arts by crafting a spectacular season of cultural events. Encompassing dance, film, music, theatre, visual arts and creative learning the Barbican has, over the years, become a significant cultural presence both on an international stage and within the City of London. Crane.tv visited the venue, itself a stunning example of modern architecture, to talk to Managing Director, Sir Nicholas Kenyon, and to Lousie Jeffries, Director of Programming. We find out what makes the Barbican so unique, details of their upcoming events and what the future holds for this iconic British arts institution. www.barbican.org.uk

This film features a walk through the City of London, starting at the Barbican Estate and finishing at the Southwark side of London Bridge. It highlights the varied architecture of the city including the 1960s brutalist buildings of the Barbican Estate, to the high-tech glass skyscrapers and historic gothic, regency and classic buildings, monuments and statues. Part of the film has been made on the high level walkways which stem from the Barbican estate, allowing an elevated view of the surroundings. From London Walls the film goes to street level. If you are visiting London and would like to see the sights for yourself, the best way is to walk, rather than take public transport. This walk is one I would definitely recommend. In the film, the following sights, streets and features are hig...
