Jérémy Chardy

Jérémy Chardy (born 12 February 1987) is a French professional tennis player. He has won one singles title at Stuttgart in 2009, reached the quarterfinals of the 2013 Australian Open and achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 25 in January 2013.

Tennis career

Juniors

Chardy won the 2005 Wimbledon Championships Boys' Singles title, and finished as the runner-up at the 2005 US Open Boys' Singles, losing to Ryan Sweeting.

As a junior Chardy compiled a 65–28 singles win/loss record and reached as high as No. 3 in the junior combined world rankings in September 2005.

2006–2008: Breaking into the top 100

Chardy made his Grand Slam debut in 2006, receiving a wild card at the French Open, where he beat Jonas Björkman in straight sets in the first round, before losing in four sets to fifteenth-seeded David Ferrer in the second round.

In 2008, after losing the final of the Marrakech Challenger in May to eventual French Open semifinalist Gaël Monfils, Chardy produced his best Grand Slam showing until 2013 at the French Open, where he entered as a wild card and came back in the second round from two-sets-to-love down to defeat World No. 6 David Nalbandian in five sets (only dropping 5 games in the final three sets). He continued his run by beating 30th seed Dmitry Tursunov, before losing in the fourth round to 19th seed Nicolás Almagro in straight sets (Chardy held set points in each of the three sets).

Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic (Serbian: Novak Đoković / Новак Ђоковић, pronounced [nôʋaːk d͡ʑôːkoʋit͡ɕ]; born 22 May 1987) is a Serbian professional tennis player who is currently ranked world No. 1 in men's singles tennis by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). He is generally considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time. He is coached by former Slovak tennis player Marián Vajda and former German tennis player and six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker.

Djokovic has won 11 Grand Slam singles titles which is ranked fourth in the open era tied with Björn Borg and has held the No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings for a total of 186 weeks. By winning three Grand Slam titles in 2011, Djokovic became the sixth male player to win three Grand Slams in a calendar year. He repeated this achievement in 2015. In Grand Slams, Djokovic has won an all-time record six Australian Open titles (tied with Roy Emerson), including an open era record of three consecutive titles from 2011–2013 (the first and only player to achieve this). He has also won three Wimbledon titles and two US Open titles.

Paul-Henri Mathieu

Paul-Henri Mathieu (born 12 January 1982) is a French tennis player. He has won four singles titles; reached the semifinals of the 2005 Montreal Masters; and achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 12 in April 2008.

Tennis career

Mathieu was born in Strasbourg, France. He first began playing tennis at age 3, with his older brother Pierre-Yves. Between 1997 and 2000 he trained at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

Juniors

As a junior Mathieu posted a singles record of 42–15 (and 34–12 in doubles), reaching as high as No. 6 in the world in January 2000 (and No. 19 in doubles the same month).

Mathieu won the boys' singles title at the 2000 French Open, (defeating Tommy Robredo in the final) and made his ATP tour debut that July in Kitzbühel.

2000–2004

2002 was Mathieu's breakthrough year. He made the fourth round of the French Open, losing to Andre Agassi in five sets, despite having a two-set lead. Later on in the year, he confirmed his potential by winning back-to-back tournaments in Moscow and Lyon. He holds the distinction of being the last player to beat Pete Sampras before his retirement, which he did at the 2002 TD Waterhouse Cup. On 14 October, he became world no. 36, and his progress won him the ATP Newcomer of the Year award for 2002. He also nearly won the Davis Cup in 2002 with the French Davis Cup team, but lost the deciding rubber of the final to Mikhail Youzhny of Russia, once more after relinquishing a two-set advantage.
