"NW5" is a song by the band Madness, which was debuted live at the Brixton Academy in December 2006. The single was released in January 2008 on the band’s own label, Lucky 7 Records, and entered the chart at no.24 on Sunday 20th Jan 2008, going to no.1 on the UK Independent Label Chart on Sunday 20th Jan 2008. It was very well received by fans and critics alike.
The song was subsequently included on their critically acclaimed 2009 album, The Liberty of Norton Folgate and has become a regular at Madness concerts.
The song’s title is a reference to the UK postal code area for the north London district of Kentish Town, from where the band originated. It was written by saxophone player Lee Thompson and pianist Mike Barson, who also wrote some of the band's other hits including "House of Fun".
The b-side "Bittersweet" is a cover of a song by The Undertones, recorded for the Dangermen Sessions.
These are the formats and track listings of major single releases of "NW5".

Madness are an English ska band from Camden Town, London, that formed in 1976. One of the most prominent bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s 2 Tone ska revival, they continue to perform with their most recognised line-up of seven members.
Madness achieved most of their success in the early to mid-1980s. Both Madness and UB40 spent 214 weeks on the UK singles charts over the course of the decade, holding the record for most weeks spent by a group in the 1980s UK singles charts. However, Madness achieved this in a shorter time period (1980–1986).
Madness have had 15 singles reach the UK top ten, one UK number one single ("House of Fun") and two number ones in Ireland, "House of Fun" and "Wings of a Dove".
The core of the band formed as The North London Invaders in 1976, and included Mike Barson (Monsieur Barso) on keyboards and vocals, Chris Foreman (Chrissy Boy) on guitar and Lee Thompson (Kix) on saxophone and vocals. They later recruited John Hasler on drums and Cathal Smyth (better known as Chas Smash) on bass guitar. Later in the year, they were joined by lead vocalist Dikron Tulane.

*UPDATE* - The instrumental (piano version) of this song is now up on my channel if anyone wants to use it. It is different to this version though (minus Kath's verse), like the original. Me performing the part of Sarah in NW5 from the show 'Our House'. I know there wasn't a version of the musical version on youtube so I thought I'd upload if anyone was interested :) This version is slightly different to the scripted version as it's not Sarah, Dad and Chorus but instead a trio between Sarah, Dad and Mum (Kath) :D:D
Performed at Winstanley College December 2010.
So quite a lot of people have asked for this on my NW5 cover and there isn't any instrumental for this song that I can find for this version so here it is :) My brother kindly recorded the piano part for rehearsal purposes when I was doing the show last year. Hopefully it will come in handy to lots of people so please feel free to use it :)
Ooh, I watched you grow up
Only to despise
I seen the madness stack up
Through tarpaulin eyes
I have heard you come up
Believing your own lies
Witnessed the blessing rise up
In a, a very strange disguise
Though you have become a burden
One thing remains, that's for certain
I will love you all my life
But without you in my life
Ooh, I watched you climb up
I seen you come alive
From those very humble beginnings
In NW5
Though we face the final curtain
One thing remains, that's for certain
I will love you all my life
But without you in my life
I would give you everything
For just the smile you bring
For just the song to sing
I would give you everything
For just that smile you bring
For just that song to sing, I sing now
Yes, I watched you grow up
Only to despise
Witnessed the blessing rise up
In a, a very strange disguise
Nothing, it seems, lasts forever
People change just like the weather
Some for good and sometimes never
I hope things work out for the better
I would give you everything
For just the smile you bring
For just the song to sing
I would give you everything
For just the smile you bring
For just the song to sing, I sing
Nothing, it seems, lasts forever
People change just like the weather
Some for good and sometimes never
I hope things work out for the better
I would give you everything
For just the smile you bring
For just the song to sing
I would give you everything
For just the smile you bring
For just the song to sing, I sing
I would give you everything
For just the smile you bring
