Jainism
Jainism (/ˈdʒeɪnɪzəm/ or /ˈdʒaɪnɪzəm/), traditionally known as Jain dharma, is an ancient Indian religion that prescribes the path of Nonviolence (ahiṃsā) towards all living beings.Jain philosophy distinguishes the soul (consciousnesses) from the body (matter). Jains believe that all living beings are really soul; intrinsically perfect and immortal. Souls in transmigration (saṃsāra) are said to be embodied in the body like a prison and therefore, experience birth and death. Practitioners believe non-injury (ahimsa) and self-control are the means to liberation from the cycle of births and deaths. The liberated souls are worshipped as God in Jainism. Jain texts reject the idea of a creator or destroyer God and postulates an eternal universe.
Overview
Jain cosmology divides the worldly cycle of time into two parts or half-cycles. According to Jains, in every half-cycle of time, twenty-four tirthankaras grace this part of the Universe to teach the unchanging doctrine of right faith, right knowledge and right conduct. The word Tīrthankara signifies the founder of a tirtha, which means a fordable passage across a sea. The Tirthankara show the 'fordable path' across the sea of interminable births and deaths. Modern history records the existence of last tirthankara, Mahavira (6th century B.C.) and his predecessor Parshvanatha. Jain texts expound that Jainism has always existed and will always exist.

Jain vegetarianism
Jain vegetarian diet is practiced by the followers of Jain culture and philosophy. It is one of the most rigorous forms of spiritually motivated diet on the Indian subcontinent and beyond. The Jain cuisine is completely vegetarian and also excludes onions, potatoes, brinjals (eggplants) and garlic, similar to the shojin-ryori Buddhist cuisine of Japan.
The strictest forms of Jain diet is practiced by the ascetics; in addition to potatoes it may exclude other root vegetables. This food is called sattvic, which means that it is based on the qualities of goodness, lightness and happiness. On the other hand, onions, eggplant and garlic are considered "tamasic" as they are believed to have a quality of darkness, lethargy and a putrid smell.

Jain Diet Jains are strict vegetarians but also do not eat root vegetables and some types of fruits. Some Jains are also vegans and exclude various types of green vegetables during periods of the month. What food Jains Cannot eat? The Jain cuisine is completely lacto-vegetarian and also excludes root and underground vegetables such as potato, garlic, onion etc., to prevent injuring small insects and microorganisms; and also to prevent the entire plant getting uprooted and killed. It is practised by Jain ascetics and lay Jains. What is a typical Jain meal? A Jain meal might consist of rice and dry beans, lentils or chickpeas cooked in an Indian curry sauce. This will be served with water, a bread roll and a dessert. Is the Jain diet healthy? To sum up, the Jain Diet is a significantly restrictive dietary plan, based on the principle of nonviolence. The main reason for adhering to this diet has to be ethical, this is not a diet for weight management. Alhough, it might become your healthy lifestyle and bring its benefits for your body in a long term run. What vegetables do Jains eat? JAINS ARE VEGETARIANS. WE EAT VEGETABLES, SQUASH, BEANS, PEAS, TOMATOES, FRUITS, AND LETTUCE. JAINS DO NOT EAT STEAK, HAMBURGERS, HOT DOGS, OR ANY OTHER KIND OF MEAT. JAINS ALSO DO NOT EAT CHICKEN, EGGS, TURKEYS, OR ANY POULTRY ITEMS. Do Jains eat eggs? The Jain vegetarian diet is based on nonviolence. We don't eat meat, fish, eggs, root vegetables, or animal ingredients. To start, Jainism is based on the principle of ahimsa, or non-violence. This principle applies to our mental, physical, and verbal actions towards all living things. Do Jain drink milk? Perhaps surprisingly, milk and cheese are part of Jain cuisine. Some Jains are vegans but it's not required by the tenets of Jainism. Can Jains drink water? Jains, while performing Biyasan and any higher austerity have to drink only boiled water. First, water should be filtered and boiled and then cooled, Then they can drink it; that too, only before the sunset; not after that. They should not drink water in the nights. Can a Jain drink alcohol? In Jainism alcohol consumption of any kind is not allowed, neither are there any exceptions like occasional or social drinking. The most important reason against alcohol consumption is the effect of alcohol on the mind and soul. Do Jain eat potatoes? Jainism doesn't promote the consumption of Root vegetables (such as carrot, radish, beetroot etc.) , potato, onion and garlic. And similarly, during certain days of a month, (i.e. Panchami, Ashtami, Chaudas and so on) vegetables are forbidden for eating. During those days we can only eat lentil-based food Can Jains eat tomatoes? So, for example, some Jains will comfortably eat tomatoes, despite the presence of large numbers of seeds in that vegetable. All Jains take massive pride in their religion and its high ideals and regard their diet as reflecting serious ethical principles. What do Jain nuns do during menstruation? They don't have a bath throughout their life,” says Jain. “During menstruation, they usually sit in a container of water on the fourth day, taking care that the water is later spilled on Earth. Can Jains eat yogurt? Cheese and Yogurt are permissible (for non vegan Jains) but must be freshly prepared on the day they are eaten and no animal rennet may be used to make them. Why do Jains not eat at night? According to the Jain scriptures, food or water should be consumed only before evening settles in because, when the temperature dips, bacteria in the air increase and settle on the food.

Hello friends . Today let's prepare a multipurpose gravy which can be used to make any restaurant style curry . You can prepare this curry in advance and use it later for paneer sabji, kofta curry , mix veg or any other restaurant style sabji .
This is a jain gravy recipe which hasn't onion, garlic, ginger and any other root vegetables in it . It tastes just like restaurant style gravy and even you will not miss onion garlic after having this creamy, rich gravy . It is a yellow gravy so goes well with paneer, kofta and mix veg .
It is a vegan recipe . This vegan jain gravy has no cream , no milk in it . Let's learn how to make vegan curry at home with easy step by step method .
Ingredients:
2+1 tbsp- oil
1 tsp- cumin seeds
Pinch of asafoetida
1 - red bell pepper
1/4 cup- cashews
2- chopped tomatoes
1/4 tsp- turmeric powder
1 tsp+1/2 tsp- kashmiri red chilli powder
1+1/4 tsp- coriander powder
Salt according to the taste
1 tbsp- all purpose flour
1/4 cup or as required- water
Pinch of sugar
1/2 tsp- garam masala
1/2 tsp- kasuri methi

2+1 tbsp- oil
1 tsp- cumin seeds
Pinch of asafoetida
1 - red bell pepper
1/4 cup- cashews
2- chopped tomatoes
1/4 tsp- turmeric powder
1 tsp+1/2 tsp- kashmiri red chilli powder
1+1/4 tsp- coriander powder
Salt according to the taste
1 tbsp- all purpose flour
1/4 cup or as required- water
Pinch of sugar
1/2 tsp- garam masala
1/2 tsp- kasuri methi

Jainism, some called it the world’s most peaceful religion. Its monks are famous worldwide for their strict adherence to non-violence. Going as far as to sweep the floor as they walk to avoid stepping on lifeforms, covering their mouths as to not swallow or breath hot air on living creatures, and following a strict vegetarian diet that not only bans all meat, fish, and eggs but also potatoes!!! So what is Jainism and why is it considered the world’s most peaceful religion.
Their ancient philosophy has garnered the eye of the modern world as their ideas of non-violence, strict vegetarianism, and what could be called an environmentalist outlook are strikingly relevant.
Jains have been highly influential in India for thousands of years. Shaping it's vegetarian-friendly diet and lending the concept of Ahimsa to Gandhi's independence movement.
A Jain is someone who accepts the teachings of the Tirthankaras. 'Jainism' comes from the word “Jina”.
Tirthankaras are the most important people in Jainism. They have removed all their attachments to the world and during their lifetimes they managed to break free from the cycle of rebirth and death that Jains believe keeps souls trapped on Earth.

Jainism
Jainism (/ˈdʒeɪnɪzəm/ or /ˈdʒaɪnɪzəm/), traditionally known as Jain dharma, is an ancient Indian religion that prescribes the path of Nonviolence (ahiṃsā) towards all living beings.Jain philosophy distinguishes the soul (consciousnesses) from the body (matter). Jains believe that all living beings are really soul; intrinsically perfect and immortal. Souls in transmigration (saṃsāra) are said to be embodied in the body like a prison and therefore, experience birth and death. Practitioners believe non-injury (ahimsa) and self-control are the means to liberation from the cycle of births and deaths. The liberated souls are worshipped as God in Jainism. Jain texts reject the idea of a creator or destroyer God and postulates an eternal universe.
Overview
Jain cosmology divides the worldly cycle of time into two parts or half-cycles. According to Jains, in every half-cycle of time, twenty-four tirthankaras grace this part of the Universe to teach the unchanging doctrine of right faith, right knowledge and right conduct. The word Tīrthankara signifies the founder of a tirtha, which means a fordable passage across a sea. The Tirthankara show the 'fordable path' across the sea of interminable births and deaths. Modern history records the existence of last tirthankara, Mahavira (6th century B.C.) and his predecessor Parshvanatha. Jain texts expound that Jainism has always existed and will always exist.

Jain Diet Jains are strict vegetarians but also do not eat root vegetables and some types of fruits. Some Jains are also vegans and exclude various types of green vegetables during periods of the month. What food Jains Cannot eat? The Jain cuisine is completely lacto-vegetarian and also excludes root and underground vegetables such as potato, garlic, onion etc., to prevent injuring small insects and microorganisms; and also to prevent the entire plant getting uprooted and killed. It is practised by Jain ascetics and lay Jains. What is a typical Jain meal? A Jain meal might consist of rice and dry beans, lentils or chickpeas cooked in an Indian curry sauce. This will be served with water, a bread roll and a dessert. Is the Jain diet healthy? To sum up, the Jain Diet is a significantly restrictive dietary plan, based on the principle of nonviolence. The main reason for adhering to this diet has to be ethical, this is not a diet for weight management. Alhough, it might become your healthy lifestyle and bring its benefits for your body in a long term run. What vegetables do Jains eat? JAINS ARE VEGETARIANS. WE EAT VEGETABLES, SQUASH, BEANS, PEAS, TOMATOES, FRUITS, AND LETTUCE. JAINS DO NOT EAT STEAK, HAMBURGERS, HOT DOGS, OR ANY OTHER KIND OF MEAT. JAINS ALSO DO NOT EAT CHICKEN, EGGS, TURKEYS, OR ANY POULTRY ITEMS. Do Jains eat eggs? The Jain vegetarian diet is based on nonviolence. We don't eat meat, fish, eggs, root vegetables, or animal ingredients. To start, Jainism is based on the principle of ahimsa, or non-violence. This principle applies to our mental, physical, and verbal actions towards all living things. Do Jain drink milk? Perhaps surprisingly, milk and cheese are part of Jain cuisine. Some Jains are vegans but it's not required by the tenets of Jainism. Can Jains drink water? Jains, while performing Biyasan and any higher austerity have to drink only boiled water. First, water should be filtered and boiled and then cooled, Then they can drink it; that too, only before the sunset; not after that. They should not drink water in the nights. Can a Jain drink alcohol? In Jainism alcohol consumption of any kind is not allowed, neither are there any exceptions like occasional or social drinking. The most important reason against alcohol consumption is the effect of alcohol on the mind and soul. Do Jain eat potatoes? Jainism doesn't promote the consumption of Root vegetables (such as carrot, radish, beetroot etc.) , potato, onion and garlic. And similarly, during certain days of a month, (i.e. Panchami, Ashtami, Chaudas and so on) vegetables are forbidden for eating. During those days we can only eat lentil-based food Can Jains eat tomatoes? So, for example, some Jains will comfortably eat tomatoes, despite the presence of large numbers of seeds in that vegetable. All Jains take massive pride in their religion and its high ideals and regard their diet as reflecting serious ethical principles. What do Jain nuns do during menstruation? They don't have a bath throughout their life,” says Jain. “During menstruation, they usually sit in a container of water on the fourth day, taking care that the water is later spilled on Earth. Can Jains eat yogurt? Cheese and Yogurt are permissible (for non vegan Jains) but must be freshly prepared on the day they are eaten and no animal rennet may be used to make them. Why do Jains not eat at night? According to the Jain scriptures, food or water should be consumed only before evening settles in because, when the temperature dips, bacteria in the air increase and settle on the food.

Hello friends . Today let's prepare a multipurpose gravy which can be used to make any restaurant style curry . You can prepare this curry in advance and use it later for paneer sabji, kofta curry , mix veg or any other restaurant style sabji .
This is a jain gravy recipe which hasn't onion, garlic, ginger and any other root vegetables in it . It tastes just like restaurant style gravy and even you will not miss onion garlic after having this creamy, rich gravy . It is a yellow gravy so goes well with paneer, kofta and mix veg .
It is a vegan recipe . This vegan jain gravy has no cream , no milk in it . Let's learn how to make vegan curry at home with easy step by step method .
Ingredients:
2+1 tbsp- oil
1 tsp- cumin seeds
Pinch of asafoetida
1 - red bell pepper
1/4 cup- cashews
2- chopped tomatoes
1/4 tsp- turmeric powder
1 tsp+1/2 tsp- kashmiri red chilli powder
1+1/4 tsp- coriander powder
Salt according to the taste
1 tbsp- all purpose flour
1/4 cup or as required- water
Pinch of sugar
1/2 tsp- garam masala
1/2 tsp- kasuri methi
