Molly is a two-part Australian miniseries about music legend Molly Meldrum. Aired on the Seven Network, the first part premiered on 7 February 2016, with the second and final half screening on 14 February. It is based on Meldrum's biography, The Never, Um ... Ever Ending Story, which was written with journalist Jeff Jenkins.
Molly is based on the life of Ian "Molly" Meldrum, who became one of the most influential and powerful names in Australian music. The series follows the rise of Meldrum from small beginnings in Quambatook to becoming one of the biggest names in Australian music. Along with hosting the high-rating TV series Countdown, Meldrum's accessible personality and passion for music saw him become an essential figure of the Australian music scene in the 1970s, '80s and beyond.
"Molly" is a song by French-American DJ Cedric Gervais, first announced by Gervais through his YouTube channel on 9 April 2012. The song was released as an single in the United States and Canada on 3 July 2012 through Big Beat Records, and as an EP in the United Kingdom on 22 July, and then worldwide on 21 Agusut 2012 through Spinnin' Records and 3 Beat Productions, including remixes. It was written and produced by Cedric Gervais and Carlos Cid. The song was used in the 2013 film Pain & Gain.
"Molly" was heavily sampled in American recording artist Tyga's 2013 song of the same name. It was released as a promotional single for his third studio album Hotel California.
"Molly" is an electro house song with influences of acid house, "big rave" and dubstep. It has a tempo of 126 BPM and contains vocals that are spoken by a speech synthesizer.
American singer Madonna infamously referenced the song while promoting her song "Girl Gone Wild". Her mention caused great controversy, inciting criticism from electronic dance music producer deadmau5. The term 'Molly' is a reference to the dance drug MDMA.
