A hard disk drive (HDD), hard disk, hard drive or fixed disk is a data storage device used for storing and retrieving digital information using one or more rigid ("hard") rapidly rotating disks (platters) coated with magnetic material. The platters are paired with magnetic heads arranged on a moving actuator arm, which read and write data to the platter surfaces. Data is accessed in a random-access manner, meaning that individual blocks of data can be stored or retrieved in any order and not only sequentially. HDDs are a type of non-volatile memory, retaining stored data even when powered off.
Introduced by IBM in 1956, HDDs became the dominant secondary storage device for general-purpose computers by the early 1960s. Continuously improved, HDDs have maintained this position into the modern era of servers and personal computers. More than 200 companies have produced HDD units, though most current units are manufactured by Seagate, Toshiba and Western Digital. As of 2015, HDD production (exabytes per year) and areal density are growing, although unit shipments are declining.

- Ever wondered what was inside of that clunky brick on which you store most of your Steam games and general files? A lot goes into a hard disk drive, and even more is found in its history. HDDs were once the size of refrigerators, and now they're as small as a quarter (with several hundred times the storage capacity)! Let's jump back in time. External hard drives typically have high storage capacities and are often used to back up computers or serve as a network drive. People who are always on the go are sometimes lazy to carry the entire laptop. They prefer carrying something is comparatively in size, If you are one of them then you have come to t...

If you need professional data recovery services, visit https://acsdata.com or call 1-800-717-8974. Do it yourself hard drive repair and data recovery on a Seagate 750GB hard drive. ***WARNING*** This is NOT recommended for situations where you are trying to recover critical, irreplaceable data. The chances of permanent data loss are extremely high. In this video we show you the process for transplanting hard disk platters from a hard drive with a damaged spindle motor. We made an effort to do this using simple tools to show that it could be done. We DO NOT recommend this method at all for those who have important data that needs to be recovered. Please note, this process only works with 7200.10 model Seagate hard drives. Do not attempt on any other model Seagate drive, or any other brand...

Science Documentary: DNA Hard Drives, Quantum Computing, Moore's Law DNA is similar to a hard drive or storage device, in that contains the memory of each cell of every living, and has the instructions on how to make that cell. DNA is four molecules combined in any order to make a chain of one larger molecule. And if you can read that chain of four molecules, then you have a sequence of characters, like a digital code. Over the years the price of sequencing a human genome has dropped significantly, much to the delight of scientists. And since DNA is a sequence of four letters, and if we can manipulate DNA, we could insert a message and use DNA as the storage device. At this point in time, we are at the height of the information age. And computers have had an enormous impact on all o...
