Sohail Ahmed (Urdu: سہیل احمد) (born Sohail Akram Butt), best known as Azizi (Urdu: عزیزی), is a Pakistani comedian, and stage and TV actor. He is most notable for comedy stage dramas based in Lahore.
He was born in Gujranwala, went to school at Millat High Gujranwala and graduated from Government College Gujranwala. His father Mian Muhammad Akram Butt was a senior Police Officer (Deputy Superintendent of Police).[citation needed] He is the second youngest of four brothers. Javid Akram is a journalist, while Mian Aurang Zaib Akram and Muhammad Junaid Akram are educators.[citation needed]
He improvises dialogue during stage plays. He is an outspoken opponent of vulgarity and obscenity in stage dramas. He is also the writer and director of many stage plays. Recently Ahmed produced and directed his second drama serial, Shaam, which was written by Iqbal Hasan Khan, a Pakistani playwright and short story writer. This play went on air in January 2010.[citation needed]
"Azizi" is a character name chosen by Aftab Iqbal while he was writing a column, Hasb-e-Haal in the daily, "Nawa-e-waqat". Thus, credit for the program's name "Hasb-e-Haal" and the character "Azizi" belongs to Iqbal.[citation needed] Over time, the character has come to symbolize the voice of sanity over the apparent apathy in society.[citation needed] He mocks the flagrant disregard for law, lack of policy architecture by the government and equally blatant lack of incentive from civil society to change their situation.[citation needed]
Iftikhar Thakur is a Pakistani stage actor. He originally hails from Mian Channu. Thakur worked there in a Motor Work Shop. He has starred in many stage dramas/telefilms in different languages such as Urdu, Punjabi, Pothwari/Mirpuri etc. One of his most famous telefilms has been "The Miki Kha ro England Series" which very successful amongst the Pothwari & kashmiri community.
Thakur acts best with comedy actors Bobu Bral, Shahzada Ghaffar, Sohail Ahmad, Anwar Ali, Nasir Chinyoti, Tariq Teddi, Naseem Vicky, Amanat Chan, Sakhawat Naz, Nawaz Anjum, Sajan Abbas and Hameed Babar. Thakur is recognised as one of the best stage comedians, as by giving his best performances in stage dramas such as Mohabbat CNG, Chalak Totay.
Thakur worked in a Motor Work Shop before starting his career as a stage actor in 2000. Thakur rose to fame due to his quick reply,funny body language and appearance. He also catches attention due to his strange costumes that he wears on stage. One of his dialogues, "Jhoot Bolda" is very popular among his fans. Thakur's has also been working as a director. His directorial debut, a Punjabi stage drama called "Roti Khol Deyo", was the biggest hit of the year.
