Karim Kassem

Karim Kassem (Arabic: كريم قاسم‎, IPA: [kæɾˈiːm ʔæːsem] also spelled Karim Qassem, born 8 October 1986) is an Egyptian actor.

Biography

Kassem is a graduate of the American University in Cairo, where he studied theater and acted in many of the university's plays. He is trilingual in Arabic, French and English.

Discovered in 2006 while taking an acting workshop, he had his cinematic breakthrough in the teen drug film Awqat Faragh. Kassem has co-starred with colleague Amr Abed in three of his films.

Abd al-Karim Qasim

Abd al-Karim Qasim (Arabic: عبد الكريم قاسم‎ `Abd al-Karīm Qāsim) (21 November 1914 – 9 February 1963), was a nationalist Iraqi Army brigadier who seized power in a 1958 coup d'état, wherein the Iraqi monarchy was eliminated. He ruled the country as Prime Minister until his downfall and death during the 1963 Ramadan Revolution.

During his rule, Qasim was popularly known as al-za‘īm (الزعيم) or, "The Leader".

Early life and career

Abd al-Karim Qasim's father was an Iraqi Muslim of Arabic descent who died shortly after his son's birth during World War I as a soldier for the Ottoman Empire. Qasim's mother was a Shiite and the daughter of a farmer from Baghdad.

When Qasim was six years of age his family moved to Suwayra, a small town near the Tigris, then to Baghdad in 1926. Qasim was an excellent student; he entered secondary school on a government scholarship. After graduation in 1931, he taught at Shamiyya Elementary School from October 22 of that year until September 3, 1932, when he was accepted into Military College. In 1934, he graduated as a second lieutenant. Qasim then attended al-Arkan (Iraqi Staff) College and graduated with honors (grade A) in December 1941. In 1951, he completed a senior officers’ course in Devizes, Wiltshire. Although shy and lacking in "the rabble-rousing skills on which most successful Arab politicians rely", he was nonetheless nicknamed "the snake charmer" by his classmates in Devizes, because of his gift in convincing them to undertake improbable courses of action during military exercises.

Karim (alternatively spelled Kareem, or Kerim) (Arabic: کریم‎) is a common given and surname of Arabic origin that means Generous. Not to be confounded with Al-Karim (Arabic: الکریم‎), which is one of the 99 names of Allah, meaning THE Generous.

Karim is also a spelling of a similar though a lot less common name, (Arabic: كرم‎), this name has a short second vowel, it is commonly spelled as Karam also often spelled Karem or Kerem. Another derivative name of (Arabic: أکرم‎) is Akram (meaning more generous).

History

The Karim label was started in 1960 by Giovanni Fischietti and Gaetano Purvilenti. From the start it was a S.p.A., making 45s and LPs. Some of the more famous singers on the label were Fabrizio De André, Orietta Berti, Jula de Palma and Memo Remigi.

Eternal Darkness

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is a psychological horror action-adventure game developed by Silicon Knights and published by Nintendo for the GameCube in 2002. The game was originally planned for the Nintendo 64. The game's setting is centered on a mansion in Rhode Island—the home of protagonist Alexandra Roivas' grandfather—and a book that Alexandra finds there. It utilizes a third-person view in which the player must navigate a number of locations as twelve characters spanning different time periods, as well as "sanity effects" to enhance the gameplay.

Though not a commercial success, Eternal Darkness was widely praised, winning numerous awards. While a direct follow-up was cancelled by the copyrights holder Nintendo, and Silicon Knights bankrupted and disbanded, the game's writer and director Denis Dyack has been attempting to make a spiritual successor titled Shadow of the Eternals.

Plot

The action in Eternal Darkness is divided between four principal locations. The game skips back and forth through time when the player begins or ends each chapter. The locations include the Forbidden City in Persia, a Cambodian temple in Angkor Thom, the Oublié Cathedral in Amiens, France, and the Roivas family mansion with the Ruined City of Ehn'gha in Rhode Island, United States.
