Duangrit Bunnag is an architect and designer. Before setting up his own architectural design firm (Duangrit Bunnag Architect Limited) in 1998, he trained with Architect 49 Limited. He is a graduate of Chulalongkorn University and the Architectural Association School of Architecture (London). His designs include the TCDC Chiang Mai building. He has been invited to contribute as a speaker and critic at many national and international symposiums, lectures and events, including the Architecture Biennale in Venice, Italy. Besides architecture, Duangrit also pursues other design disciplines such as furniture and product design. His subsidiary company, Ministry of Space, sustains the award-winning furniture and retail brand "anyroom". Duangrit has also supported the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage, the Architects Regional Council of Asia (ARCASIA) and the Architects Council of Thailand.

Duangrit Bunnag is a design director and managing director of the architectural firm Duangrit Bunnag Architect Limited (DBALP). He graduated with a Bachelor in Architecture from Chulalongkorn University in 1989 and practiced at Architects 49 Limited in Thailand for nine years. Duangrit continued his architectural education at Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) in London before returning to Thailand and establishing his own practice DBALP in 1998. His company's portfolio embraces architecture, landscape, interior design and master planning, ranging from design hotels, resorts, commercial and residential projects. Many of DBALP's early works have gained reputation for bold designs that feature simplicity rather than minimalism. DBALP's remarkable projects include H1 Boutique Mall, Costa Lanta Resort, X2 Kui Buri Resort, Hotel De La Paix in Luang Prabang, and Thailand Creative and Design Center (TCDC) in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Beside architectural practices, Duangrit runs a furniture design and retail brand 'anyroom' and recently opens 'the Jam Factory' complex that underlines his broad interest in aspects of design and lifestyle business. He has also contributed to professional organizations in several positions, including a committee and Vice President of Foreign Affairs of the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage, Deputy Chairman for Zone B of the Architects Regional Council of Asia (ARCASIA), and an elected Board Member of and chairs the Architects Council of Thailand. Duangrit Bunnag has received several local and international recognitions, for example ARCASIA Award for Architecture 2013, ARCASIA Gold Medal in 2005, the ASA Award in 2004 and 2006, the UK's FX Award in 2000.

Bunnag family
The House of Bunnag (Thai: บุนนาค; rtgs: Bunnak) was a powerful Siamese noble family of Persian descent of the early Rattanakosin Kingdom of Siam. By the nineteenth century, its power and influence reached its zenith. The family was favored by Chakri monarchs and monopolized high-ranking titles. Three of the four Somdet Chao Phraya came from the Bunnag family — Dis, styled Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Prayurawongse; his younger brother Tat, styled Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Pichaiyat; the eldest son Chuang, styled Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Si Suriyawongse. They played key roles in government and foreign relations until after the Front Palace Crisis. As Chulalongkorn sought to undo the power of nobility and pursue centralization, the Bunnags gradually withdrew from prominent roles in Siamese politics but continued to fill important official ranks.
History
Sheikh Ahmad
Sheikh Ahmad, a Persian merchant, along with his brother Muhamad Sa-id and subordinates, settled in Siam around 1600. Sheikh Ahmad was a native of Qom in Safavid Iran, south of Tehran. He established himself as a rich merchant in Ayutthaya. There he entered the service of King Songtham (1611–1628) who appointed him as Chao Kromma Tha Khwa (เจ้ากรมท่าขวา; Lord of the Right Pier) to supervise traders from the West, i.e. Persians, Indians and Europeans. He was also appointed Chularatchamontri (จุฬาราชมนตรี; Minister of Islamic affairs) to oversee all Shiites in Siam.

Hong Kong
Hong Kong (香港; "Fragrant Harbour"), officially Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, is an autonomous territory on the southern coast of China at the Pearl River Estuary and the South China Sea. Hong Kong is known for its skyline and deep natural harbour. It has a land area of 1104 km2 and shares its northern border with Guangdong Province of Mainland China. With around 7.2 million inhabitants of various nationalities, Hong Kong is one of the world's most densely populated metropolises.
After the First Opium War (1839–42), Hong Kong became a British colony with the perpetual cession of Hong Kong Island, followed by Kowloon Peninsula in 1860 and a 99-year lease of the New Territories from 1898. Hong Kong remained under British control for about a century until the Second World War, when Japan occupied the colony from December 1941 to August 1945. After the Surrender of Japan, the British resumed control. In the 1980s, negotiations between the United Kingdom and the China resulted in the 1984 Sino-British Joint Declaration, which provided for the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong on 30 June 1997. The territory became a special administrative region of China with a high degree of autonomy on 1 July 1997 under the principle of one country, two systems. Disputes over the perceived misapplication of this principle have contributed to popular protests, including the 2014 Umbrella Revolution.

Duangrit Bunnag is a design director and managing director of the architectural firm Duangrit Bunnag Architect Limited (DBALP). He graduated with a Bachelor in Architecture from Chulalongkorn University in 1989 and practiced at Architects 49 Limited in Thailand for nine years. Duangrit continued his architectural education at Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) in London before returning to Thailand and establishing his own practice DBALP in 1998. His company's portfolio embraces architecture, landscape, interior design and master planning, ranging from design hotels, resorts, commercial and residential projects. Many of DBALP's early works have gained reputation for bold designs that feature simplicity rather than minimalism. DBALP's remarkable projects include H1 Boutique Mall, Costa Lanta Resort, X2 Kui Buri Resort, Hotel De La Paix in Luang Prabang, and Thailand Creative and Design Center (TCDC) in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Beside architectural practices, Duangrit runs a furniture design and retail brand 'anyroom' and recently opens 'the Jam Factory' complex that underlines his broad interest in aspects of design and lifestyle business. He has also contributed to professional organizations in several positions, including a committee and Vice President of Foreign Affairs of the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage, Deputy Chairman for Zone B of the Architects Regional Council of Asia (ARCASIA), and an elected Board Member of and chairs the Architects Council of Thailand. Duangrit Bunnag is an architect and designer. Before setting up his own architectural design firm (Duangrit Bunnag Architect Limited) in 1998, he trained with Architect 49 Limited. He is a graduate of Chulalongkorn University and the Architectural Association School of Architecture (London). His designs include the TCDC Chiang Mai building. He has been invited to contribute as a speaker and critic at many national and international symposiums, lectures and events, including the Architecture Biennale in Venice, Italy. Besides architecture, Duangrit also pursues other design disciplines such as furniture and product design. His subsidiary company, Ministry of Space, sustains the award-winning furniture and retail brand "anyroom". Duangrit has also supported the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage, the Architects Regional Council of Asia (ARCASIA) and the Architects Council of Thailand.

Duangrit Bunnag is a design director and managing director of the architectural firm Duangrit Bunnag Architect Limited (DBALP). He graduated with a Bachelor in Architecture from Chulalongkorn University in 1989 and practiced at Architects 49 Limited in Thailand for nine years. Duangrit continued his architectural education at Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) in London before returning to Thailand and establishing his own practice DBALP in 1998. His company's portfolio embraces architecture, landscape, interior design and master planning, ranging from design hotels, resorts, commercial and residential projects. Many of DBALP's early works have gained reputation for bold designs that feature simplicity rather than minimalism. DBALP's remarkable projects include H1 Boutique Mall, Costa Lanta Resort, X2 Kui Buri Resort, Hotel De La Paix in Luang Prabang, and Thailand Creative and Design Center (TCDC) in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Beside architectural practices, Duangrit runs a furniture design and retail brand 'anyroom' and recently opens 'the Jam Factory' complex that underlines his broad interest in aspects of design and lifestyle business. He has also contributed to professional organizations in several positions, including a committee and Vice President of Foreign Affairs of the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage, Deputy Chairman for Zone B of the Architects Regional Council of Asia (ARCASIA), and an elected Board Member of and chairs the Architects Council of Thailand.
