The molars or molar teeth are large, flat teeth at the back of the mouth. They are more developed in mammals. They are used primarily to grind food during chewing. The name molar derives from Latin, molaris dens, meaning "millstone tooth", from "mola", millstone and dens, tooth. Molars show a great deal of diversity in size and shape across mammal groups.
In humans, the molar teeth have either four or five cusps. Adult humans have twelve molars, in four groups of three at the back of the mouth. The third, rearmost molar in each group is called a wisdom tooth. It is the last tooth to appear, breaking through the front of the gum at about the age of twenty, although this varies from individual to individual. Ethnicity can also have an impact on the age at which this occurs, with statistical variations between groups. In some cases, it may not even erupt at all.
The human mouth contains upper (maxillary) and lower (mandibular) molars. They are: maxillary first molar, maxillary second molar, maxillary third molar, mandibular first molar, mandibular second molar, and mandibular third molar.

This official teaching video provided by the International Academy for Ultrasonic Surgery and Implantology demonstrates the the correct application of the LC-Tips (Ligament Cutters) for Piezotome for easy and atraumatic tooth removal. We gratefully thank Dr. Juan Martinez, IAUSI Regional Director South America and Head of the International Piezotome Training Center South America, for his provision of this video for teaching proper surgical techniques with ultrasonic surgical tools. In this video we show the unedited video of the extraction of a molar that was very loose. No...this was NOT why the patient was in the ER. She came for a severe asthma exacerbation for which she was going to be admitted, but when the patient complained about the tooth I decided to go ahead and pull it to avoid possible avulsion of the tooth and subsequent aspiration into the lungs. This dental video was made in sequence and will cover all of my techniques in creating a molar porcelain cosmetic crown. This tooth had a pre-existing large metallic filling along with a long history of sensitivity to chewing food. A rubber dam was used to help prevent contamination. It is important to give your lab a great impression (6 minutes set time). Temporaries can be made either before and after the impression (50 seconds in the mouth and trimmed while waiting for your impression). GC

Class II tooth preparation and filling are created on the mesial and distal sides of posterior teeth. This video will cover a very large filling on tooth number 2 and a more moderate filling on tooth number 5. The cavity configuration factor will be taken into account. Rubber dam application was included during the treatment. This tooth will need a future crown.
