Hey, it's over seeding time out here in Arizona once again and we're out here at Hohokam Stadium, which is the new spring training site for the Oakland A's. We're going to be using Ewing Eagle rye-grass seed that's coated with Aquasmart. Step one in the over seeding process out here in Arizona, which is common practice is cut back the water, about 8 days prior to over seeding process. Out here at Hohokam Stadium what they did was, they verti-cut the grass in 2 different directions and they did that twice. Then they come back and they scalp the turf to a half inch. Once they're done scalping that means they're ready to lay down the seed. Typical watering practices once you lay down your rye-grass seed, is 5 to 7 times per day, for about 6 minutes each time for 10 days.
What you can see is a lot of with specks on the turf right now, what that is, is the seed that is coated with Aquasmart and the water that it absorbs from the irrigation. Once we use Aquasmart coated seed, what they're going to do here at Hohokam Stadium, is they're going to actually water it 7 times per day, for the first 3 days. Then they're going to cut their water back by 50 percent. Then we're going to see where we stand in 10 days. We're back out here at Hohokam Stadium, the spring training site for the Oakland A's. Where 10 days ago, we were here for the over seeding process, where they put down the Aquasmart coated rye-grass seed. What the grounds crew wound up doing was cutting back the seed amount by 35 percent. Then on top of that, cutting back to water by 40 percent. As you can tell, the results are really phenomenal.

Ryegrass (Lolium) is a genus of nine species of tufted grasses in the Pooideae subfamily of the Poaceae family. They are characterized by bunch-like growth habits. Also called tares (even though there is no firm evidence that this is the same as the plant given that name in English language translations of the Bible (as in the "Parable of the Tares") - vetches are another candidate), these plants are native to Europe, Asia and northern Africa, but are widely cultivated and naturalized elsewhere. Ryegrasses are naturally diploid, with 2n = 14, and are closely related to the fescues Festuca.
Ryegrass should not be confused with rye, which is a grain crop.
The following are accepted as distinct species:
Ryegrasses contain some species which are important grasses for both lawns, and as pasture and for grazing and hay for livestock, being a highly nutritious stock feed. Ryegrasses are also used in soil erosion control programs. It is the principal grazing grass in New Zealand where some 10 million kilograms of certified seed are produced every year. There is a large range of cultivars. The primary species found worldwide and used for both lawns and as a forage crop is perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne). Like many cool-season grasses of the family Poaceae, it harbors a symbiotic fungal endophyte, either Epichloë or its close relative Neotyphodium, of which both are of the fungal family Clavicipitaceae

RPR - Regenerating Perennial Ryegrass
What is RPR? RPR stands for Regenerating Perennial Ryegrass. It refers to a unique group of Barenbrug bred turfgrass cultivars of perennial ryegrasses that produce determinate stolons as the plants develop and grow. Determinate stolons, sometimes called "runners", are growth shoots emerging f at the base of a grass plant. They grow horizontally just below and/or above the soil surface and will develop roots at subsequent internodes, which in turn develop entirely new plants. Determinate stolons differ from typical stolons in that the new plants have an end point - a terminal. From this terminal point, multiple determinate stolons will develop further enhancing the spread of the original plant. Hey, it's over seeding time out here in Arizona once again and we're out here at Hohokam Stadium, which is the new spring training site for the Oakland A's. We're going to be using Ewing Eagle rye-grass seed that's coated with Aquasmart. Step one in the over seeding process out here in Arizona, which is common practice is cut back the water, about 8 days prior to over seeding process. Out here at Hohokam Stadium what they did was, they verti-cut the grass in 2 different directions and they did that twice. Then they come back and they scalp the turf to a half inch. Once they're done scalping that means they're ready to lay down the seed. Typical watering practices once you lay down your rye-grass seed, is 5 to 7 times per day, for about 6 minutes each time for 10 days.
What you can see is a lot of with specks on the turf right now, what that is, is the seed that is coated with Aquasmart and the water that it absorbs from the irrigation. Once we use Aquasmart coated seed, what they're going to do here at Hohokam Stadium, is they're going to actually water it 7 times per day, for the first 3 days. Then they're going to cut their water back by 50 percent. Then we're going to see where we stand in 10 days. We're back out here at Hohokam Stadium, the spring training site for the Oakland A's. Where 10 days ago, we were here for the over seeding process, where they put down the Aquasmart coated rye-grass seed. What the grounds crew wound up doing was cutting back the seed amount by 35 percent. Then on top of that, cutting back to water by 40 percent. As you can tell, the results are really phenomenal.

What is RPR? RPR stands for Regenerating Perennial Ryegrass. It refers to a unique group of Barenbrug bred turfgrass cultivars of perennial ryegrasses that produce determinate stolons as the plants develop and grow.
Determinate stolons, sometimes called "runners", are growth shoots emerging f at the base of a grass plant. They grow horizontally just below and/or above the soil surface and will develop roots at subsequent internodes, which in turn develop entirely new plants.
Determinate stolons differ from typical stolons in that the new plants have an end point - a terminal. From this terminal point, multiple determinate stolons will develop further enhancing the spread of the original plant.
Normal perennial ryegrasses used on sports fields and golf courses don't usually do this. Normal perennial ryegrass plants are described as being tufted or bunched and will not exhibit a spreading, regenerating growth habit.
The RPR concept of determinate stolons and aggressive spreading growth habit is so unique that, in the USA, a new sub-species classification has been confirmed for Barenbrug's RPR, Lolium perenne ssp. stoloniferum.
RPR is truly a unique grass seed cultivar.

En este video, veremos el proceso de aplicacion de semilla de pasto perenne Ryegrass, sobre un pasto Bermuda ya existente.
Para una exitosa aplicacion de semilla, debemos procurar un muy buen contacto entre la semilla y el suelo.
Dos semanas antes de la remosion del pasto viejo, suba la cuchilla de la cortadora media pulgada, esto va a permitir que la semilla llegue al suelo mas facilmente.
Para tener una limpieza mas sencilla, es necesario suspender el riego dos o tres dias antes.
Despues de cortar su Bermuda a solo 3/4 de pulgada, ya estaras listo para aplicar la nueva semilla.
Una Buena Distribucion Uniforme y una apropiada tasa de aplicacion, son esenciales para obtener un buen resultado en la germinacion de la nueva semilla. Una aspersora de rotacion le puede ayudar a lograr la tasa de aplicacion de 10 libras de semilla por cada 1000 pies cuadrados de area. Tanto la semilla de calidad como la aspersora de semilla se pueden encontrar en su tienda local de Ewing.
Una vez que la semilla ya ha sido aplicada, ponga un fertilizante que sea rico en Fosforo. Tener el fosforo en contacto con la semilla va a ayudar en el proceso de germinacion.
