Guglielmo "William" Bottin (born 1977) is an Italian record producer, DJ and sound designer, based in Venice, Italy.
Robin R. Bottin (born April 1, 1959) is an American special make-up effects creator. Known for his collaborations with directors John Carpenter and Paul Verhoeven, Bottin worked with Carpenter on both The Fog and The Thing and with Verhoeven on RoboCop, Total Recall and Basic Instinct. His other film credits include Innerspace, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Fight Club.
Well respected in his field of prosthetic makeup (better known as special make-up effects), and described in 2013 as a "special effects genius", Bottin was nominated for an Oscar in 1987 for Best Makeup, and was awarded a Special Achievement Award at the 1991 Academy Awards. He has two BAFTA nominations, and won two Saturn Awards with five further nominations.
Bottin was born in the Los Angeles suburb of El Monte, California. His father was a foreman for a van and storage company.
From an early age Bottin enjoyed a steady stream of old horror films, as well as magazines like Famous Monsters of Filmland. At age 14, he submitted a series of illustrations to well-known special make-up effects artist Rick Baker, who promptly hired him. He worked with Baker on various films but his first big solo break was The Howling, where he was called to create an on screen transformation from man to werewolf. This managed to reach the theatres before his mentor's similar scene in An American Werewolf in London. He also worked on the Star Wars Cantina scene creatures. He was, in fact, the tallest player in the Cantina band.
Interview with the filmmakers from "The Thing" (1982) about the making of the movie and its amazing creature special effects that were designed and created by young Rob Bottin. Bottin himself in his enthusiastic and "mad scientist" look a like appearance discuss "the thing" special effects and the challenges that he and the crew faced and how they did the effects sequences itself. The interview is a part of special collectors dvd edition. And also important notes we're made by director John Carpenter and cinematographer Dean Cundey. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084787/

The Remixes starts off with a brand new single, "Never Let It End," released last year as a super-limited vinyl-only 12”. "Never Let It End" is a classic DFA slo-motion banger - live drums, a pulsing bassline, and synth flourishes across its eight minutes - classic DFA sounds in every sense - all qualities accentuated and made even more bumping by a dance floor-shaking remix by Hardway Bros. This is a very short spot of Joe Dante talking to Ethan Hawke about explorers and Rob Bottin is in the very back row of working on Wak the alien.
Continuing his chat with Mick Garris, John Carpenter talks about his films THE FOG, HALLOWEEN 2, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, THEY LIVE and BODY BAGS, make-up artist Rob Bottin, his working methods, ambiguous endings, the difference between shock and suspense, his reputation as a horror specialist, the appeal of scary movies, and his work on the MASTER OF HORROR television series.
It features the genius artist that is makeup, effects, writer, and superstar Steve Johnson! Hear wonderful discussions about Dick Smith, Tom Savini, Rick Baker, Stan Winston, Rob Bottin, Jack Pierce, and many more! Trust me, it's FUNNY! Man, I REALLY WANT to take Steve Johnson's 'Special Effects From Page to Screen' at Tom Savini's Special Make-Up Effects Program at The Douglas Education Center! I WILL MAKE THIS HAPPEN! You should, too! http://www.dec.edu/ts/
My review of the alright but overrated film The Howling. The Howling is a 1981 American horror film directed by Joe Dante, and starring Dee Wallace, Patrick Macnee, Dennis Dugan, and Robert Picardo. Based on the novel of the same name by Gary Brandner, the film follows a television newswoman sent to a remote mountain resort after a fatal incident with a serial killer, unaware that the inhabiting residents are werewolves. The film was released on April 10, 1981 and became a moderate success, grossing $17.9 million at the box office. It received generally positive reviews, with praise for the makeup special effects by Rob Bottin. The film won the 1980 Saturn Award for Best Horror Film while still in development, and was one of the three high-profile wolf-themed horror films released in 1...

Holly loves unicorns...and Tom Cruise, and Legend (1985), director Ridley Scott's visually arresting fairy tale-fantasy epic, in which a young forest lad (Cruise) must rescue a princess (Mia Sara) and a unicorn from the clutches of the Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry in an awesome Rob Bottin makeup design). Listen in as we detail the differences between the U.S. theatrical version and the international Director's Cut, pontificate about fairies, Gumps, Screwballs, Brown Toms, and more on this week's exciting episode!
This is a tribute to Dick Smith that I shot on October 31, 1991 in Los Angeles. Speakers are Kevin Yagher, John Buechler, Rob Bottin, Rick Baker, Gabe Bartalos, Stan Winston, Steve Johnson and finally Dick Smith. I also have a costume contest that took place before this but i edited it out as many would find it boring. Enjoy!

Again, I like the movie, just hate the damn ending. Explorers is a 1985 family-oriented science-fiction fantasy film written by Eric Luke and directed by Joe Dante. It was the first feature film for both Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix. It was filmed in 70mm color with 6-track sound, and runs for 109 minutes. The special effects in the movie were produced by Industrial Light & Magic, with makeup effects by Rob Bottin.
