Akwa Ibom Christmas Carol Festival 2015
The stage is set for the annual
Akwa Ibom State Government Carols festival, slated for Saturday,
December 19 at the
Uyo Township Stadium, Uyo.
Disclosing activities lined up for the
2015 edition of the carol, the
Commissioner for
Information and
Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah indicated that the event, which affords the
Christian community a wonderful opportunity to celebrate
Christmas in a special way, has become a major source of spiritual tourism to
Akwa Ibom.
According to him, “people from all walks of life, from within and outside the
State, and Christians across denominational lines will gather and share the joy of Christmas by singing praises to the
Almighty God.”
He emphasised that the Christian gathering will help strengthen the bond of unity in the State as well as, create conducive ambience for spiritual growth and peaceful co-existence amongst groups in the State and beyond , in an evening of praise and worship.
The Information Commissioner, who mentioned that the
Carol promises to be unique, in line with the Dakkada philosophy of
Governor Udom
Emmanuel, said participants should expect to be spiritually charged and lifted as much as they would be thrilled by the calibre of gospel music artistes and clergymen billed for the event.
Mr. Umanah said while the
General Overseer of The Redeemed Evangelical
Mission,
TREM,
Bishop Mike Okonkwo will minister the word of God,
International gospel music icons like
Donnie Mcclurkin,
Shirley Caesar,
Angella Christie and
Chevelle Franklyn will minister in music at the event, which will be live on major national and international television networks.
Also scheduled to perform at the international gathering are Asu Ekiye,
Sammy Okposo, Freke Umoh,
Lara George, Aity
Dennis Inyang, Chinelo Dillimono alongside the young Saxophonist,
David Eka and Don Tom.
In addition to the individual appearances, there will also be performances by the
Voices of
Barbados,
Promised Land Chorale and Akwa Ibom State Government
Choir.
Previous editions of the Akwa Ibom State Carols have hosted international Christian leaders, including the
Catholic Archbishop of
Calabar, Archbishop
Joseph Ekuwem; Archbishop
Rt. Rev. Christian
Ekong of the
Lutheran Church; the General Overseer of
Deeper Life Bible Church,
Pastor William Kumuyi; that of the
Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor
Enoch Adeboye; the
Presiding Bishop of the
Living Faith Church, Dr
David Oyedepo; and the
Metropolitan Arcbishop of
Abuja,
John Cardinal Onaiyekan.
