China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a sovereign state in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.35 billion. The PRC is a one-party state governed by the Communist Party, with its seat of government in the capital city of Beijing. It exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces; five autonomous regions; four direct-controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing); two mostly self-governing special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau); and claims sovereignty over Taiwan.
Covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, China is the world's second-largest country by land area, and either the third or fourth-largest by total area, depending on the method of measurement. China's landscape is vast and diverse, ranging from forest steppes and the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts in the arid north to subtropical forests in the wetter south. The Himalaya, Karakoram, Pamir and Tian Shan mountain ranges separate China from South and Central Asia. The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the third- and sixth-longest in the world, run from the Tibetan Plateau to the densely populated eastern seaboard. China's coastline along the Pacific Ocean is 14,500 kilometres (9,000 mi) long, and is bounded by the Bohai, Yellow, East and South China Seas.
The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications made of stone, brick, tamped earth, wood, and other materials, generally built along an east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China to protect the Chinese states and empires against the raids and invasions of the various nomadic groups of the Eurasian Steppe. Several walls were being built as early as the 7th century BCE; these, later joined together and made bigger and stronger, are now collectively referred to as the Great Wall. Especially famous is the wall built 220–206 BCE by Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. Little of that wall remains. Since then, the Great Wall has on and off been rebuilt, maintained, and enhanced; the majority of the existing wall is from the Ming Dynasty.
Other purposes of the Great Wall have included border controls, allowing the imposition of duties on goods transported along the Silk Road, regulation or encouragement of trade and the control of immigration and emigration. Furthermore, the defensive characteristics of the Great Wall were enhanced by the construction of watch towers, troop barracks, garrison stations, signaling capabilities through the means of smoke or fire, and the fact that the path of the Great Wall also served as a transportation corridor.

Forget creaking temples and dusty old palaces (there are plenty of them elsewhere); Shanghai is where people come to see modern China at its glimmering best. This fast-paced city of towering skyscrapers is, in fact, not without its own significant history. Its glory days of the 1930s helped build Shanghai's reputation as a City of Sin. But to pause for too long at the city's past would be missing the point: Shanghai is all about the future face of the world's future super power, and coming here is to witness what makes the business end of China tick. The great Wall of China is very beautiful you must have. This wall..
The Great Wall of China was built over 2000 years ago in the Qin dynasty, after China was unified under emperor Qin Shi Huang. Several existing walls built by independent kingdoms were linked. While the Great Wall never really served as the line of defence it was meant to become, it did prove a very efficient way to transport goods, equipment and people. Today, remains of the Wall can be found across China, decayed, renovated, or in some cases even completely rebuilt. This aerial video (DJI Phantom 4) was shot in the Gubekou and Jinshanling sections of the Wall, about a 2 hour drive from Beijing.
The Great Wall of China mirrors China's turbulent history. Over two millenia the Chinese built, expanded or demolished parts of the wall in response to interstate rivalry, civil war, threat of invasion and relative peace. But only recently did the Chinese begin to regard this incredible structure with pride rather than shame.

The Great Wall of China is a monumental landmark in China and the longest structure ever built by humans. Construction on it started more than two thousand years ago and continued, off and on, for almost a thousand years until 1644. Did you know the Great Wall cannot actually be seen from the moon? The Great Wall Of China - Unbelievable Secrets & Unknown Facts This video takes you to a ride full of unbelievable secrets and unknown facts about "The Great Wall Of China" First, there’s not just one wall, but many. The Great "Walls" of China, at least 16 of them, built over 2,400 years by successive emperors and dynasties. Total length: 21,000 km, three times longer than previously thought, longer than the distance between the poles. The idea was the same as Hadrian’s, though: to keep out uncouth marauding neighbours from the north: Scots, Mongols, they’re much of a muchness. Here are some, reconstructed Mongols, galloping thunderingly on horseback and firing their bows. Ooch aye the noo, Genghis, good arrers. So how did they come up with the new figures? Technology, that’s how: aeri...

When a Silicon Valley Chinese American executive goes back to his homeland of China for the first time in 30 years, he and his family encounter many culture clashes between the lives that they lead in the United States and the lives of their relatives in China. The finale of the movie includes an exciting table tennis match involving the Chinese-American son played by Kelvin Han Yee. Acclaimed film critic Roger Ebert from the Chicago-Sun Times awarded the film with 3 out of 4 stars and wrote of the film saying "A Great Wall is a human comedy about a Chinese-American family that goes to visit relatives in Peking, and within that simple premise are so many inspirations that the movie is interesting even when it's just looking at things." and went on to say "The chief pleasure of "A Great Wa...
In 1988, Ulay and Abramovic decided to end their relationship and to mark this with a performance, which became the legendary endpoint of their collaboration. After years of negotiations with the Chinese authorities, the artists got the permission to carry out 'The Lovers: The Great Wall Walk', in which they started to walk from different ends of the Chinese Wall in order to meet in the middle and say good-bye to each other. Abramovic started walking at the eastern end of the Wall, at Shan Hai Guan, on the shores of the Yellow Sea, Gulf of Bohai, walking westward. Ulay started at the western end of the Wall, at Jaiyuguan, the south-western periphery of the Gobi Desert, walking eastward. After they both continuously walked for 90 says, they met at Er Lang Shn, in Shen Mu, Shaanxi province. ...

Time may flow over realizing goals that no one knows
And my friends - They'd never admit it though
Because they can block it out and continue to roll on
But me - I know
That everything's about to blow away
For real this time and no one's watching
All of my life I've dreamed about it
And now that it's gone I can't do without it
All of my life I've stood behind it
Like trying to hide The Great Wall of China
Flying above Heathrow
Never dreaming of the time or my dwindling cash flow
And I know - I never said
That a European climb isn't starving my ego
One thing - I know
Is that everything's about to blow away
For real this time and no one's watching
All of this time I'm wasting on it
Preparing to see what the others think of it
Keeping in mind I'm still above it
But not very high because I'm only hovering
All of my life I've stood behind it
Like trying to hide The Great Wall
