William James "Willie" Dixon (July 1, 1915 – January 29, 1992) was an American blues musician, vocalist, songwriter, arranger and record producer. A Grammy Award winner who was proficient on both the upright bass and the guitar and as a vocalist, Dixon is perhaps best known as one of the most prolific songwriters of his time. Next to Muddy Waters, Dixon is recognized as the most influential person in shaping the post-World War II sound of the Chicago blues.
Dixon's songs have been recorded by countless musicians in many genres as well as by various ensembles in which he participated. A short list of his most famous compositions includes "Hoochie Coochie Man", "I Just Want to Make Love to You", "Little Red Rooster", "My Babe", "Spoonful", and "You Can't Judge a Book by the Cover". These tunes were written during the peak of Chess Records, 1950–1965, and performed by Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter, and Bo Diddley; they influenced a worldwide generation of musicians.

Willie Dixon - I Am The Blues 1977, Berlin Willie Dixon and The New Generation of Chicago Blues

Willie Dixon was the Apostle Paul of the Chicago Blues. He was a wonderful fair and honest man who had no need of exaggerating or bending Truth. The main reason for this interview was to establish a True history of the originators and innovators of the Electrified Blues Harp. Also to establish the fact that the sound of Rock originated on the Blues Harmonica. Check out the sound of Shakey's Harmonica on his duet with Muddy Waters, "Standing Round Crying!" This 1952 offering was recorded shortly after Little Walter's "Juke" in 1952. Little Walter was the very first to record the Rock sound but Shakey originated it. I always wondered decades ago how Shakey could sound like he did back in 1952 and receive virtually no acclaim. His sound was stunning and like Thor's Hammer!

Kick De Strychnine - Spoonful - St Sever 40 3 sept 2016 "Spoonful" is a blues standard written by Willie Dixon and lyrically based on Charley Patton's "Spoonful Blues"
Now, when you see two dogs
Nawin' on the same bone
It ain't no growlin'
An a-fightin' goin' on
They got a good understandin'
Yes, they got a good understandin'
You know a good understandin
Can make ev'rything alright
(sax & instrumental)
Now, when the lamb and the lion
Can lay side by side
An rover lick the tom cat
In his eye
They got a good understandin'
Yes, they got a good understandin'
You know a good understandin
Can make ev'rything alright
Yes, a good understandin
Can-a make ev'rything alright.
