Semiotics (also called semiotic studies; not to be confused with the Saussurean tradition called semiology which is a part of semiotics) is the study of meaning-making, the study of sign processes and meaningful communication. This includes the study of signs and sign processes (semiosis), indication, designation, likeness, analogy, metaphor, symbolism, signification, and communication.
Semiotics is closely related to the field of linguistics, which, for its part, studies the structure and meaning of language more specifically. The semiotic tradition explores the study of signs and symbols as a significant part of communications. As different from linguistics, however, semiotics also studies non-linguistic sign systems. Semiotics is often divided into three branches:

This is where i get really nerdy and try and educate myself on some stuff that might help you guys learn some stuff too... My brief was to produce a creative response on a text of my choice analysing & interpreting the symbols expressed in my chosen text. If you're studying english or media at the moment this could help you make some sense of that english essay you've got to write or it might make you think a little bit more about why people chose to express themselves in the way that they do... DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH THOUGH... this is really just my opinion, based on my values and the research that i did in the lead up to presenting it. Introduction to Theory of Literature (ENGL 300) In this lecture, Professor Paul Fry explores the semiotics movement through the work of its founding theorist, Ferdinand de Saussure. The relationship of semiotics to hermeneutics, New Criticism, and Russian formalism is considered. Key semiotic binaries--such as langue and parole, signifier and signified, and synchrony and diachrony--are explored. Considerable time is spent applying semiotics theory to the example of a "red light" in a variety of semiotic contexts. 00:00 - Chapter 1. What is Semiology? 08:34 - Chapter 2. This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Utilizing emotional connection and communication through everyday objects, Brian tells us about how using semiotic techniques can create real change in the stigma of mental health. Looking beyond to find hidden help. Inspiring mental wellness while utilizing creativity as a tool for emotional expression and applying creative aspects as a complementary therapy, Brian has found a way to guide himself and others in understanding emotion by visualizing a perspective outside of the context of adverse situations. After his pivotal realization that he was using film to understand and cope with conflict based PTSD and addiction from his time growing up in Northern Ireland surrounded by the terrorist trouble...

This video seeks to provide viewers a basic understanding of the semiotic theories of Ferdinand de Saussure and Charles Sanders Peirce. In this video, de Saussure's theory of the dyadic relationship of the linguistic sign is compared to Peirce's triadic relationship of the linguistic sign. I feel the wind blow, does anyone know?
Who it is breathing, sending us hope
I see the sun I found warmth, I found warmth in its light
Just like Your eyes I found grace, I found grace in your sight
Someday I'll go, I will see Your face
I will let go of these eyes of faith.
Here in the valley, a little confused
I look to the mountains, my help comes from You
The clouds roll into my life
And they remind of how You'll meet me in the sky
I feel the wind blow, does anyone know?
