Inside Westminster Abbey - The Most famous church | UK Parliament || Documentary english subtitles
Westminster Abbey is the heart of London; the seat of true power in Great Britain and the place where modern democracy is born. The rich group of architectural treasures on the north bank of the river Thames - Parliament, Westminster Abbey and the clock tower known as 'Big Ben' - bears witness to one thousand years of power struggle between Crown and People. With unprecedented access we delve deep into the corridors of power to discover their secrets.
In Secrets of Westminster Abbey , viewers see the hidden areas of London’s House of Commons, House of Lords and Westminster Abbey. Throughout its history, Westminster has embodied stories of power struggles and tradition.
As one of the world’s most famous churches, Westminster Abbey is steeped in Anglo-Saxon myths and legends dating back to the 11th century. Viewers are privy to a behind-the-scenes tour to one of the most memorable vantage points of this architectural masterpiece, the site of the coronations of every English monarch since 1066. The film charts the brazen heist of the Stone of Destiny, part of the famous Coronation Chair, first used by Edward the Confessor in 1296. The theft, on Christmas Eve in 1950, made international headlines. Scotsman Ian Hamilton reveals how he and others planned and carried out the theft, then returned the storied stone in time for Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation.
Secrets of Westminster Abbey also provides access to the Houses of Parliament, both the House of Lords and the House of Commons. Here, intrigue, pageantry and customs, including why a monarch is never allowed into the House of Commons, are the order of the day. A tour of the iconic bell tower of Big Ben showcases this iconic symbol and explains the origin of its nickname and the mystery of its distinct tone. Victoria Tower holds priceless Acts of Parliament, documents that record 500 years of British history, including the Stamp Act that eventually led to colonial America’s rebellion.

(UK) Mysterygirl00 brings yet another classic documentary. "Inside The Abbey" hosted by acclaimed playwright Alan Bennett. The most in depth view of the history of the abbey and it's importance in the history and culture of England. A very enjoyable and informative film. This was actually taped off a VCR when I was living in the states for four years than dubbed onto DVD and then converted to video file. And very difficult to find this anywhere on you tube. I do believe it might be the only one in existence on the internet. I am not even quite sure if it is on DVD. I do apologize that the video and audio are a bit out of synch. I have not been able to come up with a plausible explanation as to why this is so. Please use the Closed Captioning for English Subtitles to help correct the issue.

Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey, formally titled the Collegiate Church of St Peter at Westminster, is a large, mainly Gothic abbey church in the City of Westminster, London, located just to the west of the Palace of Westminster. It is one of the most notable religious buildings in the United Kingdom and has been the traditional place of coronation and burial site for English and, later, British monarchs. Between 1540 and 1556 the abbey had the status of a cathedral. Since 1560, however, the building is no longer an abbey nor a cathedral, having instead the status of a Church of England "Royal Peculiar"—a church responsible directly to the sovereign. The building itself is the original abbey church.
According to a tradition first reported by Sulcard in about 1080, a church was founded at the site (then known as Thorn Ey (Thorn Island)) in the 7th century, at the time of Mellitus, a Bishop of London. Construction of the present church began in 1245, on the orders of King Henry III.
Since 1066, when Harold Godwinson and William the Conqueror were crowned, the coronations of English and British monarchs have been held there. There have been at least 16 royal weddings at the abbey since 1100. Two were of reigning monarchs (Henry I and Richard II), although, before 1919, there had been none for some 500 years.

Westminster (/ˈwɛsᵗmɪnstər/) is an area of central London within the City of Westminster on the north bank of the River Thames. Westminster's concentration of visitor attractions and historic landmarks, one of the highest in London, includes the Palace of Westminster, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Westminster Cathedral.
Historically the area lay within St Margaret's parish, City & Liberty of Westminster, Middlesex.
The name Westminster originated from the informal description of the abbey church and royal peculiar of St Peter's (Westminster Abbey), literally West of the City of London, indeed until the Reformation there was a reference to the 'East Minster' at Minories (Holy Trinity Priory, Aldgate) east of the City; the abbey was part of the royal palace that had been created here by Edward the Confessor. It has been the home of the permanent institutions of England's government continuously since about 1200 (High Middle Ages' Plantagenet times) and is now the seat of British government.

This was actually taped off a VCR when I was living in the states for four years than dubbed onto DVD and then converted to video file. And very difficult to find this anywhere on you tube. I do believe it might be the only one in existence on the internet. I am not even quite sure if it is on DVD. I do apologize that the video and audio are a bit out of synch. According to a tradition first reported by Sulcard in about 1080, a church was founded at the site (then known as Thorn Ey (Thorn Island)) in the 7th century, at the time of Mellitus (d. 624), a Bishop of London. Construction of the present church began in 1245, on the orders of Henry III.[3]
Since 1066, when Harold Godwinson and William the Conqueror were crowned, the coronations of English and British monarchs have been held here.[4][5] Since 1100, there have been at least 16 royal weddings at the abbey. Two were of reigning monarchs (Henry I and Richard II), although before 1919 there had been none for some 500 years.
