Mitten im Vietnamkrieg treffen sich zwei Männer heimlich: Henry Kissinger, Sonderbotschafter von US-Präsident Nixon, und Le Duc Tho, Mitglied des Zentralkomitees der Kommunistischen Partei Vietnams. Anhand von Zeitzeugenberichten und bisher unveröffentlichtem Archivmaterial enthüllt der Film, was sich bei den Geheimverhandlungen abgespielt hat.
Der Film gibt erstmals Einblicke in diese Unterredungen zwischen Nixons Sicherheitsberater Henry Kissinger und Le Duc Tho, dem Sonderberater des vietnamesischen Staatsoberhauptes Ho Chi Minh, und stellt die Aussagen der damaligen Akteure bisher unveröffentlichten Aufzeichnungen der Geheimgespräche vor vierzig Jahren gegenüber.
Dabei werden die Funktionsweise und die Bedeutung der Geheimdiplomatie deutlich, die auch in zeitgenössischen Konflikten noch eine wichtige Rolle spielt.

Tiana Alexandra Silliphant returned to Vietnam in 1989 during the trade embargo and interviewed many of the prominent Communist leaders in the North. In these excerpts from her feature documentary, "From Hollywood To Hanoi," Tiana has conversations with former Prime Minister Pham Van Dong and former General and Diplomat Le Duc Tho. In this video, Le Duc Tho explains why he rejected the Nobel Peace Prize that Henry Kissinger accepted.
Tiana also conducted extensive interviews with Vietnam's "Red Napoleon," General Vo Nguyen Giap, who is credited with victory over the French and the Americans in the Indochina and Vietnam Wars. General Giap died on October 4, 2013 at the age of 102. Tiana is currently finishing her new feature documentary entitled "The General & Me," which focuses on her long-term friendship with General Giap

Lê Đức Thọ (
listen; October 14, 1911 – October 13, 1990), born Phan Đình Khải in Ha Nam province, was a Vietnamese revolutionary, general, diplomat, and politician, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with United States Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in 1973, although he declined it.
In 1930, Tho helped found the Indochinese Communist Party. French colonial authorities imprisoned him from 1930 to 1936 and again from 1939 to 1944. After his release in 1945, he helped lead the Viet Minh, the Vietnamese independence movement, against the French, until the Geneva Accords were signed in 1954. He then joined the Lao Dong Politburo of the Vietnam Workers' Party in 1955, now the Communist Party of Vietnam. Tho oversaw the Communist insurgency that began in 1956 against the South Vietnamese government.
From 1978 to 1982 Tho was named by Hanoi to act as chief advisor to the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation (FUNSK) and later to the nascent People's Republic of Kampuchea. Lê Đức Thọ's mission was to ensure that Khmer nationalism would not override Vietnam's interests in Cambodia after the Khmer Rouge was overthrown.
