Music!
[Guru]
Times like this make me clench my fist
Then I'm caught up in the midst of the musical bliss
Guru, blow a kiss to the ladies in my corner
Caress the mic and kick my game like I wanna
What? You never see the brother Guru falter
Respect is due, praise me like the altar
The crew we're as true as they come son, we come from
ill life experience, and take rap serious
Feel the music
[Baybe]
We hold the key, to our destiny
We can make it everybody
Feel the music
Just free your mind, sit back relax and unwind
To a higher plane we're going
Can you feel the music?

Feel the music
Just free your mind, sit back relax and unwind
To a higher plane we're going
Can you feel the music?
Music!
[Guru]
Original baldhead Crooklynite, rudebwoy instructor
I came back to lay down law, to the suckers
I'll crush ya, if you ain't actin like my brother
Make one false move and with the mic, I'll bust ya
Just lay back and feel the music
[Baybe]
We hold the key, to our destiny
We can make it everybody
Feel the music
Just free your mind, sit back relax and unwind
To a higher plane we're going
Can you feel the music?
Music!
[Guru]
When I step into the club, I come to do work
No hesitation, because I'm fully alert
Like Max Julien, I'm an authentic Mack
Many others can't compare, I'll bet on that
Dialect and vocal tone, completely exact
I react, then I max in this mellow track
In fact, I'm knockin MC's out the frame
cause I'm smooth like jazz, Guru is my name
Feel the music *echoes*
Music!

We hold the key, to our destiny

New reality.. a higher level of conciousness
Don't play yourself; get out of line and get stomped with this
Negativity is a chronic disease
But I'm like the cure, causin infections to freeze
I'm not gonna let up, until you get the picture
My sound gets around so you know I'm always with ya
Feel the music *echoes*

Keith Elam (July 17, 1962 - April 19, 2010), better known by his stage name Guru, is an American rapper and member of the hip-hop duo Gang Starr. Born in the Boston neighborhood of Roxbury [note 1], he is known for delivering complex lyrics in a unique monotone style. Members of the hip-hop community[specify] consider him to be one of the pioneers of hiphop/jazz crossover. The name Guru is a backronym that stands for "Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal" and the less often used "God is Universal, he is the Ruler Universal".
On February 28, 2010 Guru suffered a cardiac arrest, on March 2, he was reported to be recovering after surgery.
Founded in 1987, Gang Starr built a sizable following in the early 90's, releasing classic albums like Step in the Arena (1991) and Daily Operation (1992). Guru's lyrical style is based on battle rhymes delivered smoothly, modestly, and with sly wit; he typically avoids using overwhelming charisma, focusing instead on his rhyming ability, which developed into his trademark monotone style.[citation needed] Over the years he has even taken on younger rappers, including Jeru the Damaja, as proteges. He is credited with DJ Premier for executive producing Jeru's debut, The Sun Rises in the East (1994).
In 1993, he released his first solo album, Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1. The album featured collaborations with Donald Byrd, N'Dea Davenport and Roy Ayers, while his second LP, Jazzmatazz, Vol. 2: The New Reality, featured Ramsey Lewis, Branford Marsalis and Jamiroquai. The Jazzmatazz albums are commonly considered some of the best rap of the early 90s, Guru's reputation was also bolstered through the continued success of Jazzmatazz, Vol. 3: Streetsoul (2000) and Baldhead Slick & Da Click (2001).
Moreover, recent Gang Starr albums have continued to garner Guru critical acclaim. Prominent Boston underground rapper Mr. Lif frequently cites Guru as a major stylistic influence; he appears as a guest with Lif on the Perceptionists' debut album, Black Dialogue (2005).
Besides Gang Starr, his Jazzmatazz and solo albums, Guru has collaborated with countless artists since the early 90s. Not only in hiphop, but also with artists from various genres such as pop, electronica/dance, acid jazz and even brass bands.
His "first proper solo album", in his own words, was Version 7.0: The Street Scriptures (2005), released with the help of producer and new backup MC Solar (who is not to be confused with MC Solaar from France). The album reached #1 on the college hip-hop charts, but was a failure with both fans and critics. It still managed to sell relatively well for an independent release.
On February 28, 2010, Guru went into cardiac arrest and, following surgery, fell into a coma. It was claimed that Guru had briefly wakened from his coma but died on April 19, 2010, aged 47, from multiple myeloma.
In a letter purportedly drafted on his deathbed, Guru asked that Solar manage his posthumous image, likeness, etc. on behalf of himself, and his son KC, and that DJ Premier not associate himself with Guru. Solar claimed that Guru had awoken from his coma to release the statement whilst members of the rapper's family stated that he never regained conciousness from his coma. Guru's family claimed that Solar prevented them from contact with Guru during the latter's final illness. The validity of the death-bed letter has been challenged by Guru's family.
In 2007 Guru was ranked at 45 for the Top 50 MCs of our time: 1987-2007

Questioner: Sadhguru, what can I do for my guru, how can I support you I felt that I want to do something, I don’t know what.
Sadhguru: The best thing you can do is don’t poison yourself with all those things, that’s the best thing you can do for your guru … I want all of you to remember this… the best thing that you can ever do for you guru, if at all if you feel like you want to do is, that you drop your nonsense and grow. What's the best thing a garden can do for a gardener? Hum? To grow and bloom, isn't it? ‘No, no, we want to do this to you, we want to do that to you,’ that’s not the intention, that’s not the goal. The best thing you can do for anybody is you must do what they want, isn't it? Hum? Not what you want. Always this is the problem, the best thing you can do for anybody is you must do what they want. All this activity…I'm a very… people have… who have known me early, I was an extremely taciturn person. I never said anything – there were days when I never… I was not on silence nor was I spiritual, okay, I was just there. Because most of the time, whether you went to school or college or wherever you went, whether the student spoke or the teacher spoke, everybody spoke such nonsense. Most of the time I chose to remain silent because I was terrified of their conversations. If they opened their mouth, if they did not kill you will their bare breath they killed you with horrible conversation. Very few people on this planet can simply joyfully say something, it doesn’t matter you don’t have to say some great thing; simply pouring out of their heart saying something or simply able to be with another person very few people. All others are desperately trying to be smart or they're repeating something they heard somewhere, something they read somewhere, some nonsense endlessly. So, I would never speak. Very rarely I would speak. In some places I was exuberantly boisterous but in most of the other places I was because I understood if I don’t speak they won't speak, that saves me.
So, now all this endless talking, this activity nonstop, doesn’t matter where I am, constantly I'm in groups of people, not even with individual people, constantly with huge groups of people either in public sitting behind a microphone or wherever I walk there's minimum 10 people around me. So, this is not my personal choice; this is a terrible need that there is in the world, that if you do not communicate the way people know, if you do not behave and act the way people know right now, if you don’t walk two steps with them you can never walk them in a different direction. Hum?
So, there is nothing you can do; the best thing you can do is you grow and blossom, drop your nonsense. Your past nonsense you leave it to me, present nonsense you handle. If you do that that’s the best thing. ‘No, suppose you died’ even if I died I will not stop the spiritual part of my activity.
So, I'm not so concerned about that. Yes we’re concerned, the foundation could be hurt, activity could be hurt but not the spiritual part of the work,. The concern is that people will be here and if they don’t grow. I've planted people in my garden and they never blossomed, that I'm terrified of. So, those of you who’re very patient who want to come here for 10 lifetimes and do it, I'm okay with them but I think we must build an outer ashram for them. Even here there is in a way but we wouldn’t like that to be here because of various reasons, we would like everybody who comes here to be absolutely there in the very core of what's happening. I don’t want to create a core and a periphery here. Here there's only one burning spot… that’s everywhere. So, if you…
