Suchitra Sen born Roma Dasgupta (6 April 1931 -- 17 January 2014), was an Indian actress who acted in several Bengali and a few Hindi films. The movies in which she was paired opposite Uttam Kumar became classics in the history of Bengali Cinema.
Suchitra Sen made her debut in films with Shesh Kothaay in 1952, but it was never released. The following year saw her act opposite Uttam Kumar in Sharey Chuattor, a film by Nirmal Dey. It was a box-office hit. She received a Best Actress Award for the film Devdas (1955), which was her first Hindi movie. One of her best known performances was in Deep Jwele Jaai (1959). Suchitra Sen's international success came in 1963, when she won the best actress award at the Moscow International Film Festival for the movie Saat Paake Bandha, becoming the first Indian actress to receive an international film award.She won the Silver Prize for Best Actress for Saat Paake Bandha. In 1972, she was awarded the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian awards in India. From 1979 on, she retreated from public life and shunned all forms of public contact; for this she is often compared to Greta Garbo. In 2005, she refused the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest cinematic award in India, to stay out of the public eye. In 2012, she was conferred the West Bengal Government's highest honour: Banga Bibhushan.
Suchitra Sen was admitted to the hospital on 24 December 2013 and was diagnosed with a lung infection. She died at 8.25 am on 17 January 2014, due to a heart attack.

Suchitra Karthik Kumar born Suchitra Ramadurai (born 14 Aug 1982) is an Indian Tamil Radio Jockey and Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu playback singer. She sung over 100 songs in three languages.
Early life
Born and brought up in Chennai, She is a B.Sc. graduate from Mar Ivanios College (Trivandrum). Later on she moved to Coimbatore for her MBA (PSG Institute of Management). She was part of a music band at PSG.
Career
She joined Sify for a year, after graduating. She responded to an ad for the post of an RJ in Radio Mirchi. She became known as Rj Suchi, with her popular morning show Hello Chennai. Her distinct and bold voice made her very popular with the younger crowd. She still does a radio show called Flight983 on Radio Mirchi, on Sunday evenings (7-9 pm). The show deals with interesting international happenings.
She started singing after a few years as RJ. She also worked as a dubbing artist for popular heroines like Shriya.
Her career as a playback singer now spans Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films and she has several hits in all these languages to her credit. Suchitra is a sought-after performer at Corporate and other such stage shows. She has also been appreciated for her honest and positive-humour-filled judging at Reality Shows like Vijay TV's Airtel Super Singer, Sun TV's Sun Singer, Asianet's Music India, and Bol Baby Bol on Gemini Tv and Surya Tv. 'Music I Like', an album of Suchitra's renditions of Mahakavi Bharatiyaar's poetry, set to contemporary tunes and music, released by Universal Music, was a turning point in her career.

Suchitra Sen born Roma Dasgupta (6 April 1931 -- 17 January 2014), was an Indian actress who acted in several Bengali and a few Hindi films. The movies in which she was paired opposite Uttam Kumar became classics in the history of Bengali Cinema.
Suchitra Sen made her debut in films with Shesh Kothaay in 1952, but it was never released. The following year saw her act opposite Uttam Kumar in Sharey Chuattor, a film by Nirmal Dey. It was a box-office hit. She received a Best Actress Award for the film Devdas (1955), which was her first Hindi movie. One of her best known performances was in Deep Jwele Jaai (1959). Suchitra Sen's international success came in 1963, when she won the best actress award at the Moscow International Film Festival for the movie Saat Paake Bandha, becoming the first Indian actress to receive an international film award.She won the Silver Prize for Best Actress for Saat Paake Bandha. In 1972, she was awarded the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian awards in India. From 1979 on, she retreated from public life and shunned all forms of public contact; for this she is often compared to Greta Garbo. In 2005, she refused the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest cinematic award in India, to stay out of the public eye. In 2012, she was conferred the West Bengal Government's highest honour: Banga Bibhushan.
Suchitra Sen was admitted to the hospital on 24 December 2013 and was diagnosed with a lung infection. She died at 8.25 am on 17 January 2014, due to a heart attack.

The actress has further unveiled the reply that she got from Ram. She penned, "Suchitra I think you have misunderstood me. Completely. We are not similar at all. Never. I don't believe in the institution of marriage. I am just not the marrying kind. I use women only for sex and I am very sure that's not what you want. I like women's bodies but not their brains. In 1941, Suchitra Mitra received a scholarship to Sangeet Bhavan in Santiniketan, where she had the rare privilege of learning from the greatest names in the world of music - Shrimati Indradevi Chaudhury, Shri Sahntidev Ghosh and Shri Shailajaranjan Mazumdar. Having obtained her Diploma from Santiniketan, Suchitra Mitra returned to Calcutta in 1945. Later in her life, she received her Master Degree in Bengali from Calcutta University. Shrimati Mitra's inherent love and commitment to Tagore's music encourage her to found, Rabitirtha, which today stands out significantly as one of the leading schools of Rabindra Sangeet in the city. Founder and Principal, Suchitra Mitra is still an active figure and inspiration behind this establishment. Shrimati Mitra's dedication, sincerity and comprehension of the subtle nuances underlying Gurudev's songs is that of a 'sadhak'.
Suchitra Mitra's reputation as a successful artiste resulted in her appointment as Lecturer in Rabindra Bharati University, where she held the prestigious office of Head of the Department of Music. In recognition of her creative talents, Suchitra Mitra received a number of awards, amongst them were the Tagore Hymn Prize in 1945 from London. Suchitra was honored with the Padma Shri in 1973 by the Government of India and in 1986 received the Sangit Natak Academy Award, and has the distinction of the recipients of the HMV Golden Disc Award, Shiromoni Puraskar from Asian Paints , Desikottam from Viswa-Bharati, Allauddin Puraskar from the Govt. of West Bengal and accolades apart. Suchitra's greatest achievements has been in her ability to immortalize Tagore's songs both at home and abroad to people of all ages. Invited to the USSR and Hungary, Suchitra Mitra spread the message of Gurudev to the western audience. With the Rabitirtha troupe, she performed Tagore's dance dramas in the USA and Canada. Suchitra Mitra is the author of many books in Bengali on Rabindra Sangeet, and has written a book of poems for children. She has directed her effort towards compiling an Encyclopedia of Tagore's songs for students and researchers. Suchitra Mitra's repertoire and expertise, coupled with her ability to inculcate in others the love of Rabindra Sangeet is unparalleled and establishes her as one of the greatest names in the world of performing arts.
She was conferred D.Litt.degree by Rabindra Bharati University & Burdwan University. She retired in 1984 from Rabindra Bharati as a Professor and the Head of Rabindra Sangeet Department.
