A newly appointed technical team comprising legal officers from the National Social Security Fund and the Federation of Kenyan Employers has a month to come up with ways of resolving the NSSF member contributions stalemate
Speaking in Mombasa after two days of deliberation, the two bodies said there is a need to reach an agreement about implementation of the contributions so that the parties can register consent before court, when the matter comes up next month. In 2014, The Industrial Court indefinitely barred NSSF from deducting higher pension contributions. This emanated from the NSSF Act No. 45 of 2013, which would see NSSF transform from a provident fund to a pension scheme, offering an expanded range of social safety nets as opposed to the current lump-sum payouts. NSSF has also engaged the Central Organisation of Trade Unions COTU, asking it to withdraw the court cases and resolve the matter through an out of court agreement

Speaking in Mombasa after two days of deliberation, the two bodies said there is a need to reach an agreement about implementation of the contributions so that the parties can register consent before court, when the matter comes up next month. In 2014, The Industrial Court indefinitely barred NSSF from deducting higher pension contributions. This emanated from the NSSF Act No. 45 of 2013, which would see NSSF transform from a provident fund to a pension scheme, offering an expanded range of social safety nets as opposed to the current lump-sum payouts. NSSF has also engaged the Central Organisation of Trade Unions COTU, asking it to withdraw the court cases and resolve the matter through an out of court agreement
