Delores LaVern Baker (November 11, 1929 – March 10, 1997) was an American rhythm and blues singer, who had several hit records on the pop chart in the 1950s and early 1960s. Her most successful records were "Tweedlee Dee" (1955), "Jim Dandy" (1956), and "I Cried a Tear" (1958).
Baker was born in Chicago and is occasionally referred to as Delores Williams because of an early marriage to Eugene Williams.
She began singing in Chicago clubs such as the Club DeLisa around 1946, often billed as Little Miss Sharecropper, and first recorded under that name in 1949. She changed her name briefly to Bea Baker when recording for Okeh Records in 1951, and then became LaVern Baker when singing with Todd Rhodes and his band in 1952.
In 1953 she signed for Atlantic Records as a solo artist, her first release being "Soul on Fire". Her first hit came in early 1955, with the Latin-tempo "Tweedlee Dee" reaching #4 on the R&B chart and #14 on the national US pop charts. Georgia Gibbs' note-for-note cover of Baker's "Tweedle Dee" reached #1; subsequently Baker made an unsuccessful attempt to sue her and petitioned Congress to consider such covers copyright violations.
"See See Rider", also known as "C.C. Rider", "See See Rider Blues" or "Easy Rider", is a popular American 12-bar blues" song. It was first recorded by Gertrude "Ma" Rainey in 1924, and since then has been recorded by many other artists.
The song uses mostly traditional blues lyrics to tell the story of an unfaithful lover, commonly called easy riders: "See See rider, see what you have done," making a play on the word see and the sound of easy.
The song is generally regarded as being traditional in origin. Ma Rainey's version became popular during 1925, as "See See Rider Blues." It became one of the most famous of all blues songs, with well over 100 versions. It was recorded by Big Bill Broonzy, Mississippi John Hurt, Lead Belly, Lightnin' Hopkins, Peggy Lee and many others. Broonzy claimed that "when he was about 9 or 10" - that is, around 1908 in the Delta (Jefferson County, AR) - he had learned to play the blues from an itinerant songster named "See See Rider", "a former slave, who played a one-string fiddle.... one of the first singers of what would later be called the blues..."
A baker is someone who makes, bakes and sells breads, rolls, biscuits or cookies, and/or crackers using an oven or other concentrated heat source. Cakes and similar foods may also be produced, as the traditional boundaries between what is produced by a baker as opposed to a pastry chef have blurred in recent decades. The place where a baker works is called a bakery.
The first group of people to bake bread were ancient Egyptians, around 8000 BC. During the Middle Ages, it was common for each landlord to have a bakery, which was actually a public oven; housewives would bring dough that they had prepared to the baker, who would tend the oven and bake them into bread. As time went on, bakers would also sell their own goods, and in that some bakers acted dishonestly, tricks emerged: for example, a baker might have trap door(s) in the oven or other obscured areas, that would allow a hidden small boy or other apprentice to take off some of the dough brought in for baking. Then the dishonest baker would sell bread made with the stolen dough as their own. This practice and others eventually lead to the famous regulation known as Assize of Bread and Ale, which prescribed harsh penalties for bakers that were found cheating their clients or customers. As a safeguard against cheating, under-filled orders, or any appearance of impropriety, bakers commonly began to throw in one more loaf of bread; this tradition now exists in the phrase "baker's dozen", which is 13.

Adult Swim (stylized as [adult swim] or [as]) is an American cable network that shares channel space with Cartoon Network, both of which are owned by Turner Broadcasting System, a division of Time Warner, Inc., every night from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Eastern and Pacific Time in the United States. The network is programmed by Williams Street Studios, a division of Turner Broadcasting System, which also developed two prior television programming blocks seen on Cartoon Network: Toonami (which later became a block on Adult Swim in 2012) and Miguzi. The name comes from a phrase used by public swimming pools to label designated times when children are restricted from using the facilities in favor of adults: "Adult Swim".
Debuting as a programming block on Cartoon Network in 2001, Adult Swim was established as alternative programming during the late night hours when Cartoon Network's primary target audience, children and teenagers between the ages of 7–15, would normally be sleeping. Much of Adult Swim's general content is known for its risqué, unorthodox and often bizarre presentation, while many of the series features are developed in stark contrast with traditional American television programs. The network was granted its own Nielsen ratings report due to differing target demographics, and broadcasts in countries such as Australia and New Zealand. The block features stylistically varied animated and live-action shows including original programming, syndicated series mainly consisting of Fox animated programming, short films, OVAs, and Japanese anime, generally with minimal or no editing for content.

Cleveland based Alan Freed was the most influential DJ in the 1950s who's said to have coined the term, "rock 'n roll." Which is why the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Museum is located where he got his start -- in Cleveland. He took a job at a local radio station ostensibly to cater to African Americans but the music he played resonated with an increasingly white audience. His career soared as rock n roll caught on. A station in New York made him an offer and off he went to the big city. His fame grew and Hollywood came calling. Freed ended up in several low budget films aimed at teenagers who loved the simple love story plots interspersed with music performed by artists Freed represented. Features: Chuck Berry, the Flamingos, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, the Moonglows, LaVern Bake...

LaVern Baker, one of the first women inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, gave this rare interview to cable TV host Skip E. Lowe after resuming her career in 1995, following radical surgery. She passed away two years later.
Atlantic recording artist LaVern Baker visits The Milt Grant Show on Monday, May 27th, 1957 as the show hosts Silver Spring's Northwood High School teens. LaVern lip-syncs to "Jim Dandy Got Married" (backed by the Coasters) and "Play The Game of Love" (backed by Thurl Ravenscroft), as well as picking a sweepstakes winner for a Motorola radio. Milt Grant, 83, died 4/28/07 at his home in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Reportedly he had cancer and Alzheimers Disease. He was apparently married twice; leaving behind 3 children, a sister; and 4 grandchildren. For someone in communications, he was a secretive person who revealed little of his personal life during his few interviews. A woman who answered the phone at his privately held company in Florida, the Grant Group, would not confirm the nature of ...
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame star LaVern Baker sings two of her great hits, "Jim Dandy" and Leiber-Stoller's "Saved," in this rare 1988 appearance at Madison Square Garden, which marked her return to the U.S. after 20 years. She's introduced by Phil Collins and chats briefly at the end.
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer LaVern Baker, who lost both legs to amputation as a result of diabetes, returned to singing just three months later in 1995 to great acclaim at the Hollywood Roosevelt's Cinegrill. In her first interview, she chats with cable TV host Skip E Lowe on opening night. LaVern, whose classic hits include "Tweedle Dee," "Jim Dandy" and "See See Rider," passed away two years later in 1997.

I'm gonna have to put you down
You been treating me like a clown
You know you've hurt me once before
You'll never hurt me anymore
(CHORUS)
Shoo-ee, you hurt me like a bee
A bumble bee, a evil bumble bee
I gave you love as sweet as honey
My life, my soul and all my money
You didn't seem to realize
You had a home in paradise
(CHORUS)
Don't you know I cry
Night after night
Just one kiss before you go
Don't ever come back no more
Now, baby, there's no need of crying
I'm sick and tired of your lying
You know you've hurt my heart again
I'm sorry, baby, it's the end
(CHORUS)
Now, baby, there's no need of crying
I'm sick and tired of your lying
You know you've hurt my heart again
I'm sorry, baby, it's the end
