Kuppali Venkatappagowda Puttappa : (December 29, 1904 - November 11, 1994)...
was a Kannada writer and poet, widely regarded as the greatest poet of 20th century Kannada literature. He is the first among seven recipients[2] of Jnanpith Award for Kannada. Puttappa wrote all his literary works using the pen name Kuvempu. He is the second among Kannada poets to be revered as Rashtrakavi (after M. Govinda Pai). His speech during the convocation ceremony of Bangalore University has been published in the book, vichaarakranthige aahwaana. It calls for a re-assessment of developmental policies. Though it was delivered in 1974, the message is still considered relevant.

'ವಿಶ್ವ ಮಾನವ' ಪರಿಕಲ್ಪನೆಯನ್ನೂ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ತಲುಪಿಸಿದವರು. ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಇವರ ಕಾಣಿಕೆ ಅಪಾರ. ಕುವೆಂಪುರವರ ವೊದಲ ಕಾವ್ಯನಾಮ-"ಕಿಶೋರ ಚಂದ್ರವಾಣಿ" -ನಂತರ ಅವರು ಕುವೆಂಪು ಕಾವ್ಯನಾಮ ಬಳಸಿ ಬರೆಯ ತೊಡಗಿದರು.

In long five decades Kuvempu created abundant 30 major collections of poems, children's Literature and translations, plays and novels. For his great prolific literature excellence Kuvempu was awarded and honored as "Rashtrakavi".
The childhood house of Kuvempu at Kuppali has at present been transformed into a museum by Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Pratishtana (a trust dedicated to Kuvempu). This trust has carried out huge developmental works in Kuppali to showcase Kuvempu and his works to the external world.

Kavishaila located on top of a small hill in Kuppalli is a rock monument made of megalithic rocks and dedicated to Kuvempu. The view around this place is awesome. Rocks are arranged and placed in a circular fashion to resemble the Stonehenge in England. At the centre of this rock monument is the place where Kuvempu was laid to rest after his death and a memorial has been constructed at that location.

Kavimane means the House of the poet in Kannada language is the ancestral house of Kuvempu. This three storied house where Kuvempu spent his childhood is located in the middle of green forests of Malnad. This house has been converted into a meuseum. Kavimane is open to public on all days of the year from 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM. There is an entry fee of Rs. 5 for adults and for children above 10 years.
