Steven Tyler

Steven Tyler (born Steven Victor Tallarico; March 26, 1948) is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and former television music competition judge, best known as the lead singer of the Boston-based rock band Aerosmith, in which he also plays the harmonica, and occasional piano and percussion. He is known as the "Demon of Screamin'" due to his high screams and his wide vocal range. He is also known for his on-stage acrobatics. During his high-energy performances, Tyler usually dresses in bright, colorful outfits with his trademark scarves hanging from his microphone stand.

Just Like

"Just Like" is a song recorded by Marvin Gaye in 1978 but wasn't released until after the release of Gaye's posthumous 1985 album, Romantically Yours.

Overview

The song was written and recorded by Gaye in the singer's recording studio in 1978 in sessions culled from the recording of Gaye's albums, Here, My Dear and The Ballads. The song was written around the time that Gaye had finalized his divorce from Anna Gordy and was struggling in his second marriage to Janis. It's unclear if Gaye had wanted to include the song in The Ballads as when the posthumous Vulnerable album came out in 1997, the song was left off of the track listing.

Instead, following Marvin's death, Columbia Records worked with Gaye's former label, Motown, to bring leftover songs to fulfill Gaye's contractual obligations to Columbia (he had signed a three-album deal in 1982). "Just Like" was one of the songs brought up to discussion and was agreed to be placed on the posthumous 1985 album, Romantically Yours. "Just Like" was later released as a single but failed to chart.

"Just Like a Pill" is a song by American singer Pink. It was written and produced by Dallas Austin and Pink for her second studio album, Missundaztood. The lyrics of the song deal with getting out of painful relationships, with a subtheme about drug abuse.

The song was released worldwide as the third single from Missundaztood in June 2002 and was a commercial success, peaking at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. It also performed well internationally, becoming her second number-one single in the United Kingdom and reaching the top 10 in, amongst other countries, Ireland, France, the Netherlands and Sweden.

Background and writing

"Just Like a Pill" was written by Pink and Dallas Austin, who also produced and arranged the song. Pink said in an interview that the song shows "part of who I am", referring to her documented problems with drugs.

Reception

Critical response

The song was generally well received by contemporary music critics. NME called it "the third best track off her killer last album".Drowned In Sound's Robert Luckett commented that it is "a fascinating record...this is a record with a edge, a kind of pot boiling over at any moment, ready to go off at any time vibe." He also wrote "it obeys the pop industry's well-dusted rules for a hit."Stylus Magazine's Todd Burns, in his review of the album, compared "Just Like a Pill" to the other singles from the album, "Don't Let Me Get Me" and "Get the Party Started", writing "The guitars... sound much more integrated into the work and the overall song works far better."
