Airstryke

Airstryke is a villain in the DC Universe.

Within the context of the stories, William Kavanagh was given the ability to transform into a pterodactyl/man hybrid by a weapons company Meta/Tech and took the name Airstryke. Count Viper took advantage of these new abilities and used Airstryke to distract Hawkman while Viper tried to take command of the Justice League and thus the world. Airstryke and Viper were soon defeated and Airstryke was sent to Belle Reve Prison. He remained here until he was freed by Neron and was given the chance to sell his soul along with numerous other villains. Airstryke chose not to sell his soul and continued his life of crime. Eventually, Airstryke was returned to prison where he became a victim of Joker's Joker gas. Again, he was defeated and returned to prison. This time he was sent to the Slab. During his stay, Brother Blood attempted to break all the villains out of the prison so they could assist him on his mission. Airstryke was the first to question Blood on his plan. Brother Blood then shot and killed Airstryke for his hubris.

Multiplex (webcomic)

Multiplex is a humor webcomic written and drawn by Gordon McAlpin which debuted on July 10, 2005. The comic focuses on the lives of the staff of the Multiplex 10 Cinemas and the movies that play there. A print edition of the strip was published through Chase Sequence Co in September 2010, which received a positive review from the Chicago Tribune. McAlpin originally intended to create Multiplex as an animated short, but abandoned the idea and later decided to publish it as a webcomic.

Synopsis

Multiplex is about the many unique employees and customers of the Multiplex 10 Cinemas located in a fictional suburb of Chicago. The Multiplex 10 employs a large number of young adults and has a wide variety of customers. Many of the strips revolve around how the staff interacts with their customers, while others deal with what happens with the staff after the cinema has closed.

Characters

The cast of Multiplex consists mainly of the staff of the Multiplex 10 Cinemas, with some of the customers having recurring roles in the comic.

Brookfield Multiplex

Brookfield Multiplex is a global contracting and development company that designs, builds and maintains property and infrastructure assets.

History

Brookfield Multiplex was founded as Multiplex in 1962 in Perth, Western Australia by John Roberts. It went on to build many large projects such as King Street Wharf in Sydney and Wembley Stadium.

In December 2003, it listed on the Australian Stock Exchange with the code of MXG, raising a total of A$1.2 billion.

Multiplex announced in late November 2006 that it planned to create a European real-estate fund to increase profits. Multiplex posted a preliminary financial report on 22 February 2007 which announced the group's net profit of A$295.6 million.

In January 2007 Multiplex faced a takeover bid which caused its share price to jump 17%. The A$4.03 billion proposal was never formally made and the potential bidder remained anonymous.

On 11 June 2007, Brookfield Asset Management proposed an acquisition of Multiplex which valued the company at approximately A$7.3 billion. The offer to shareholders of $5.05 per security was supported by the Multiplex board of directors, including the Roberts family, who sold their 26% ownership of Multiplex to Brookfield. The offer also proved popular with investors, with Brookfield rapidly acquiring 90% ownership of the company by 31 October 2007.

Multiplex (movie theater)

A multiplex is a movie theater complex with multiple screens, typically more than one screen within a single complex. They are usually housed in a specially designed building. Sometimes, an existing venue undergoes a renovation where the existing auditoriums are split into smaller ones, or more auditoriums are added in an extension or expansion of the building. The largest of these complexes can sit thousands of people and are sometimes referred to as a megaplex.

Definitions

Definitions of what constitutes a multiplex versus a megaplex is related to the number of screens, but often the comparison is arbitrary. For example, 2 to 20 screens constitute a multiplex, whereas theaters above 20 screens may be branded a megaplex. Megaplex theaters sometimes feature stadium seating and other amenities often not found at smaller movie theaters. Multiplex theatres often feature regular seating.

History

Origins

About 1915, two adjacent theatres in Moncton, New Brunswick, under the same ownership were converted to share a single entrance on Main Street. There were separate ticket booths once patrons entered the door and different programs were shown. The arrangement was so unusual it was featured by Robert Ripley in his Believe It or Not! comic strip. In 1937, James Edwards twinned his Alhambra Theater in the Los Angeles area by converting an adjacent storefront into a second "annex" screen. While both screens would show the same feature movie, one would also offer a double bill. It did not convert to showing different movies on both screens until some time after Taylor. On February 25, 1940, the Patricia Theater made news by becoming what is believed to be the first two-screen theater showing different movies when operator H. Bert Ram added a screen to an adjoining building and shared a common box office. The main screen remained the Patricia Theatre and the Patricia Annex became known as the Little Patricia.
