Whangarei (/ˌfɒŋəˈreɪ/, alt. /ˌwɒŋəˈreɪ/; Māori: [faŋaˈɾɛi]) is the northernmost city in New Zealand and the regional capital of Northland Region. It is part of the Whangarei District, a local body created in 1989 to administer both the city proper and its hinterland from the former Whangarei City, Whangarei County and Hikurangi Town councils. The city population was estimated to be 55,400 at the June 2015 estimate, up from 47,000 in 2001. The wider Whangarei area had an estimated population of 85,900 in 2015.
The Whangarei urban area is spread throughout the valleys of the surrounding area and has several suburbs: Kamo, Springs Flat, Tikipunga, Three Mile Bush, Otangarei, Mairtown, Regent, Kensington, and Whau Valley lie to the north of the city. South and west of the city centre are Morningside, Raumanga, Maunu, Horahora, Woodhill, and the Avenues, and to the east are Riverside, Sherwood Rise, Onerahi, and Parihaka.
The Māori iwi Ngāpuhi occupied Whangarei from the early 19th century, and the Te Parawhau hapū lived at the head of the harbour. Captain James Cook and the crew of the Endeavour were the first Europeans to contemplate the Whangarei Harbour entrance. On 15 November 1769 they caught about one hundred fish there which they classified as "bream" (probably snapper) prompting Cook to name the area Bream Bay.

My friends and I made road trip to the northern tip of New Zealand's north island. We stayed in Paihia and went on a one day trip to Cape Reinga, passing the Whangarei Falls, the Ninety Mile Beach and humongous sand dunes. After visiting the lighthouse at Cape Reinga, we hung out at the small beach right beneath it. Mount Manaia: towers 460 metres above the harbour entrance - its dramatic rock peaks are steeped in Maori legend. A one hour steep climb through beautiful native bush is rewarded with spectacular coastal and harbour views including the Hen and Chicken Islands. There is an alternative route from the summit for above average fitness. Entrance to the well maintained tracks is from the Early Settlers Memorial on Whangarei Heads Road. Whangarei Falls: The cascading gem has gained a reputation as the most photographed waterfall in NZ. Its ease of access, picturesque bush surround and guaranteed 365 days per year flow makes it a vistor favourite. Located just 5km from the city centre and on the road to the popular Tutukaka Coast. Includes pleasant walkway and picnic area.

Our friends and us went to Whangarei for a short holiday. Just upload a part of record by drving camera.
I can't see you mama
But I can hardly wait
Oh, to touch and to feel you mama
Oh, I just can't keep away
In the heat and the steam of the city
Oh, it's got me running and I just can't brake
So say, you'll help me, mama
'Cause its getting so hard, woah
Now I can't keep you mama
But I know you're always there
You listen, you teach me, mama
And I know inside you care
So get down, down here beside me
Oh, you ain't going nowhere
No, I won't hurt you, mama
But its getting so hard, woah
Ha ha ha, ha ha ha, argh
Ha ha ha, ha ha ha, argh
Can't you see me here, mama?
Mama, mama, mama please
Can't you feel my heart?
Can't you feel my heart?
Can't you feel my heart? Oh
Now listen to me mama, mama
Mama, you're taking away my last chance
Don't take it away
Can't you feel my heart?
Ha ha ha, ha ha ha, argh
Now I can't see you mama
But I know you're always there
You taunt, you tease me, mama
But I never, never, never, can keep away, yeah
It's the heat and the steam of the city
Oh, got me running and I just can't brake
So stay don't leave me, mama
'Cause its getting so hard, woah
Don't go, no, no, don't go
No, no, no, no, no, no, don't go
Don't go, don't go
Yeah, don't go, don't go
