Top cop Sinh gets colonial farewell
TNN | Jul 1, 2016, 07.21 AM ISTBhopal: Lal Parade ground came alive on Thursday when Madhya Pradesh police personnel gathered to put up a ceremonial parade, with speech and traditional send-off, to bid farewell to director general of police Surendra Sinh.
The DGP was hanging up his boots after 36 years of service. A 1980-batch IPS officer, his first major posting was as superintendent of police in the state capital following the 1992 riots.
He also served as inspector-general, Bhopal for Bhopal Zone and headed intelligence branch as additional DG. At the ceremony, personnel clad in uniform and led by parade commander Abhishek Tiwari marched past the dais while saluting their chief for one last time.
"I feel deeply humbled and honoured by the love and support that I got from all my colleagues throughout my career," said Sinh.
Praising the hard work put in by policemen, he went on to say that Madhya Pradesh Police is among the best police forces in the country. He, however, emphatically laid emphasis on strengthening police training for better handling of law and order situations in the future.
Once the DGP concluded his address, a large number of policemen - both lower ranks and senior ones - gathered around him for shaking his hand, that he happily obliged. Subsequently, it was time for a tradition that has been followed from the British era - policemen pulling ropes tied to the vehicle on which their chief stood, out of the ground in a gesture of respect and honour.
