An ushanka (Russian: уша́нка; IPA: [ʊˈʂankə], lit. "ear hat"), also called a ushanka-hat (Russian: ша́пка-уша́нка; IPA: [ˈʂapkə ʊˈʂankə]), formovka (формóвка), trooper hat, is a Russian fur cap with ear flaps that can be tied up to the crown of the cap, or fastened at the chin to protect the ears, jaw and lower chin from the cold. The dense fur also offers some protection against blunt impacts to the head.
The word ushanka derives from ushi (у́ши), "ears" in Russian.
Ushankas are often made from expensive sheepskin (tsigeyka, ru:Цигейка), rabbit or muskrat fur. Artificial fur hats are also manufactured and are referred to as "fish fur" since the material is not from any real animal. The simplest "fish fur" of ushankas was made of wool pile with cloth substrate and cloth top, with the exception of the flaps, which had the pile exposed. Mink fur ushankas are widely used in the Arctic regions of Russia, protecting the ears and chin of the wearer even from "deep frost" (−40 to −70 degrees C).

how to put the emblem/pin on the ushanka winter hat
We have started "Real Russia" because we wanted to show the real Russian life all over the world and to kill so many silly and outdated stereotypes about our country. However, we never listed that stereotypes in our video and never tried to proove this or that concrete stereotype is the truth or not. But recently we wrote such a list of twelve most popular stereotypes about Russia as a result of our brainstorm regarding how can we create an effective trailer for "Real Russia" channel. We want to increase the popularity of our videoblog and to get more views/subscribers thankful to promoting our trailer in pre-roll video ads on YouTube (this is video ads that play before the video on YouTube, that ones you can skip in 5 seconds after start). We analized the most popular and effective t...
This is the current version of the Russian ushanka winter hat in use by the Russian army.
My collection of eight ushankas as of now. I used my phone to film this, so the mic isn't the greatest.

[1st verse:]
In the days of fairy tales, most any wish was granted
Granted by some fairy brave
Let's suppose a fairy rose in fairy clothes from head to toes
And granted us the wish we'd crave
Would you wish for diamonds, or would you wish for pearls
Would you wish to rule the land and sea
Would you wish a crown to rest upon your golden curls?
The maiden sweetly answered 'Not for me'
[Refrain:]
I'd wish for a night in June
A silv'ry moon real soon
A moon that makes you want to spoon
And softly croon love's tune
Then a tree that I could trust
A bench that holds just two
Then I'd wish for Cupid's loving dish
And then I'd wish for you
[2nd verse:]
Why should I profess to sigh for precious pearls and diamonds
When my ev'ry sigh means you?
All the gold the world may hold its wealth untold, I would unfold
To hold a place that just holds two
Hold a place that holds a face, that holds a case of bliss
And that case of bliss would hold you too
Such a place would make me trace upon your face a kiss
The fellow answered, 'Here's just what I'd do:
