In january a father decided to give a beautiful present to his 18 years old daughter: climbing Africa's highest mountain (Uhuru Peak: 5895m) together.
So they left 2 months later Flanders, Belgium and took 2 GoPro's with them to capture these moments they'll never forget.
On the 8th of March at 6 o'clock in the morning they reached the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

The Machame-Mweka route of Kilimanjaro is one of the most popular, traversing numerous distinctive eco zones ranging from steamy tropical rainforest to arid alpine desert, offering stunning scenery which we hope we have captured adequately in this film! We did the route over 7 days to aid with acclimatisation during the season of the ‘short rains’ in November 2014. This turned out to be a good idea as the weather was actually very good overall and the route much less busy and congested than it would be during peak season, allowing us moments of true solitude. Our GPS recorded the almost 48 kilometres covered by this route and over 5,000m of ascent and descent.
We booked our climb over the internet with a local company based in Moshi (Kilismile) and were delighted with the excellent service provided by our guides, cook and porters. Our grateful thanks to them all.

A group of 7 friends from the UK document their experiences for 8 days climbing mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania via the Lemosho Route. Kilimanjaro at 19341' (5985Metres) is the highest free standing mountain on earth.
Whilst not a difficult climb the altitude from very early on can cause serious health problems with some climbers.
Fortunately the whole of our group successfully climbed to the summit but not without difficulty.
We raised a collective sum of over £21,000 for a number of UK based charities.

Explore Kilimanjaro - the breathtaking island in the sky. At 20,000 feet, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest peak and also the world's tallest volcano. Rising through a shroud of mist and clouds, Kilimanjaro floats like a mirage above the African savannah. A trek up its steep flanks takes climbers through five different worlds of climate and vegetation, ranging from rainforest near the bottom to arctic ramparts of ice surrounding a rocky crater at the peak. Kilimanjaro is not only a nature lover's paradise, but also a tantalising mystery for many scientists. The glacier atop the mountain has shrunk by over a third in the last decade due to global warming, and could disappear altogether by 2015. And although classified as dormant, Kilimanjaro has begun to stir, and evidence suggests that a massive landslide could rip open the side of the mountain causing a cataclysmic flow of hot gases and rock, similar to Mount St. Helens. NOVA takes an unusual expedition to the top of My. Kilimanjaro to investigate these two scientific mysteries, and to explore the unique beauty of this "island in the sky". Joining NOVA on this breathtaking adventure is African-born naturalist Robin Buxton, who was disabled by polio at age two, and who now dreams of summiting a mountain he has long studied.

Mount Kilimanjaro
Mount Kilimanjaro /ˌkɪlɪmənˈdʒɑːroʊ/, with its three volcanic cones, "Kibo", "Mawenzi", and "Shira", is a dormant volcano in Tanzania. It is the highest mountain in Africa, and rises approximately 4,877 metres (16,001 ft) from its base to 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) above sea level. The first recorded ascent to the summit of the mountain was by Hans Meyer and Ludwig Purtscheller in 1889. The mountain is part of the Kilimanjaro National Park and is a major climbing destination. The mountain has been the subject of many scientific studies because of its shrinking glaciers.
Geology and physical features
Kilimanjaro rises approximately 4,877 metres (16,001 ft) from its southern base in the plains near the municipality of Moshi to its summit height of 5,895 metres (19,341 ft). Kilimanjaro is the highest volcano outside South America.
Kilimanjaro is a large stratovolcano and is composed of three distinct volcanic cones: Kibo, the highest; Mawenzi at 5,149 metres (16,893 ft); and Shira, the shortest at 4,005 metres (13,140 ft). Mawenzi and Shira are extinct, while Kibo is dormant and could erupt again.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (born 1 November 1973), also known as Aishwarya Rai, is an Indian actress, former model and the winner of the Miss World pageant of 1994. Through her successful Bollywood career, she has established herself as one the most popular and high-profile celebrities in India. Rai has received several awards, including two Filmfare Awards from ten nominations. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2009 and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Government of France in 2012. While in college, Rai did a few modelling assignments. Following appearances in several television commercials, she entered into the Miss India pageant, in which she placed second. In january a father decided to give a beautiful present to his 18 years old daughter: climbing Africa's highest mountain (Uhuru Peak: 5895m) together. So they left 2 months later Flanders, Belgium and took 2 GoPro's with them to capture these moments they'll never forget. On the 8th of March at 6 o'clock in the morning they reached the summit of Mt. Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro via the 7-day Machame-Mweka Route
For more information, read the blog at http://kernowclimber.blogspot.ie The Machame-Mweka route of Kilimanjaro is one of the most popular, traversing numerous distinctive eco zones ranging from steamy tropical rainforest to arid alpine desert, offering stunning scenery which we hope we have captured adequately in this film! We did the route over 7 days to aid with acclimatisation during the season of the ‘short rains’ in November 2014. This turned out to be a good idea as the weather was actually very good overall and the route much less busy and congested than it would be during peak season, allowing us moments of true solitude. A group of 7 friends from the UK document their experiences for 8 days climbing mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania via the Lemosho Route. Kilimanjaro at 19341' (5985Metres) is the highest free standing mountain on earth. Whilst not a difficult climb the altitude from very early on can cause serious health problems with some climbers. Fortunately the whole of our group successfully climbed to the summit but not without difficulty. We raised a collective sum of over £21,000 for a number of UK based charities. For the technically minded:- The Blogs were filmed on a Panasonic GH2 with a Sennheiser MK400 Microphone, great quality in a small profile which helped keep the weight down. Landscape

The landscape on Kilimanjaro is very beautiful. The mountain can be divided into 5 climatic zones, each with its own fauna and flora. The lower reaches of the mountain are dominated by evergreen forests. At approx. 3,000m the landscape starts to change into a shrub land setting. At around 4,000m the landscape becomes very arid and rocky, similar to a lunar landscape. The fourth zone consists of a very fine glacial scree / silt dessert setting. The top of Kilimanjaro is partially snow-capped with large glaciers interspersed between the volcanic craters. The glaciers have been receding over the past 40 years, though.
Flora and fauna

The mountain is rich in flora and fauna. You get to see the various climatic conditions starting from the bushland on the bottom of the mountain to the arctic ice region on top of the mountain. You have the tropical rain forests, the evergreen forests, the moorlands and the alpine desert regions in between. It is something like walking from the equator to the arctic pole in a matter of days. You get to see some unique plants and flowers on the mountain which is specific to Mt Kilimanjaro. Though there is not much of wildlife on the mountain, you can see some wild buffaloes, elephants and leopards while traversing through the Lemosho Route. You are accompanied by armed rangers in the initial day of the trek while going via the Lemosho route.

Luke: What you see behind me is the world's tallest freestanding mountain. Mount Kilimanjaro is the pride of Tanzania and represents the social, economic and agricultural foundation of this region. Today on Million Ways to Live, we meet someone whose job is leading people as they achieve their lifelong dream of reaching the roof of Africa.
Eli: My name is Elibahati and I've been on top of Kilimanjaro over 100 times. The word Kilimanjaro is the first part Kilima means mountain. Njaro means God. For those who are living on the wind side of the mountain. This mountain helps us. As a source of rain, the people who are living around here. The eggplant, bananas, coffee, corn, beans. It helps alot with agricultural especially.
Luke: Eli has wanted to be a guide since early childhood. Growing up only one kilometer from the national park entrance, he spent his childhood talking to travelers. And the soft skills he learned made him the guide he is today.
Eli: I do enjoy working with people. The way I do inspire my clients to reach the top, I do encourage them to eat as much as they can, drink well, an stay positive.
Luke: Less than 50% of those that attempt to summit Kilimanjaro succeed, mostly due to the harsh cold weather conditions of summit day or because of succumbing to intense altitude sickness. Eli and his team manage the challenging task by conducting health checks twice daily and making sure everyone is eating and drinking plenty of water. Their best strategy for client success, however, is setting a slow and steady hiking pace.
Eli: I said, "Pole, pole." "Pole, pole" meaning "slow pace, no rush." And we even sometimes advise clients to stay longer days on the mountain because that helps with acclimatization. You get used to altitude, so they can't affect you even getting to the very top.
Luke: We're nearing the end of day four and all of us are feeling the altitude a little bit. We've got light to moderate headaches but we're doing the best we can. We're moving. We're doing burpees and exercising at 4,200 meters. I don't know if that strategy will pay off but we'll see when we get to the top, if we get to the top. But our spirits are high. The porters are singing and dancing. And we're getting good meals and we're just going to keep it going.

Eli: "Hakuna matata" - basically this word is from Kenya - Kenyan Swahili - meaning "No worries." While you are in Kilimanjaro we like to tell the clients "Hakuna matata" so you don't have to worry. You are with the guides taking care of you. So hakuna matata.
Luke: Mount Kilimanjaro is symbolic for a life well lived. Throughout life there are peaks and valleys that are fun, challenging and stressful all at the same time. But regardless of what happens you need to keep moving forward one pole pole step at a time. And just like Kilimanjaro there are guides like Eli who want nothing more than to help you reach your goals.
Easily the hardest thing I've ever done in my life by far. Eli, thank you so much for motivating, inspiring.
