The planetarium documentary “The Hot and Energetic Universe” presents with the use of Immersive Visualisations and real images the achievements of the modern astronomy, the most advanced terrestrial and orbital observatories, the basic principles electromagnetic radiation and the natural phenomena related to the High Energy Astrophysics.
High Energy Astrophysics plays a key role in understanding the universe. These radiations reveal the processes in the hot and violent universe.
High Energy Astrophysics probes hot gas in clusters of galaxies, which are the most massive objects in the universe. It also probes hot gas accreting around supermassive black holes in the centers of galaxies.
Finally, high energy radiation provides important information about our own galaxy, neutron stars, supernova remnants and stars like our Sun which emit copious amounts of high energy radiation. Europe plays a leading role in high energy astrophysics research.
The XMM-Newton and the Integral missions, are leading the exploration of the X-ray and gamma-ray universe. ESA‘s mission ATHENA, to be launched in 2028, will carry the most sensitive X-ray telescope ever and it will be the flagship of all high X-ray missions.
The producer of the documentary is the “Integrated Activities in the High-Energy Astrophysics Domain” (AHEAD).
AHEAD is a project funded by the European Commission in the framework of Horizon2020 (Access to large scale facilities). It is led by IAPS/INAF in Rome and involves most Universities and Research institutes which are involved in High Energy Astrophysics in Europe. The project aims to combine the efforts of all these Institutes in the analysis of X-ray data and facilitate the access to infrastructures distributed across Europe.

From the producers at Eastern Florida State College (formerly Brevard Community College) Planetarium in Cocoa, Florida and GeoGraphics Imaging, this new show is based on the original script by Philip Groce; narrated by Philip Groce, Mike Harvey and Rita Moreno; with Original Score and Sound Design by: Troy McClellan/Full Dome FX, Inc. The program features current, up to date science/impacts and designed not be "dated" for at least 19 years. The show also features the animation talents of Mark Howard and Joe Tucciarone. The run-time is 32 minutes.

The Dark Matter Mystery - Exploring a Cosmic Secret
What does keep the universe together? What are the building blocks of the so called "glue" we have not found yet, that makes the universe look the way it looks today? Researchers all around the world try to answer this question. We know today, that approximately a quarter of the universe is filled with a mysterious glue - dark matter. We know that it is out there, but we have no clue what it is made out of - yet.
This planetarium show takes you on astrophysics' biggest quest. You will see, why we know that there must be dark matter at all and how this search becomes one of the most challenging and exciting searches astro particle physics has to offer. Join the scientists on their hunt for dark matter, may it be in space or deep underground. Will they be able to reveal the dark matter mystery?

Fulldome
Fulldome refers to immersive dome-based video projection environments. The dome, horizontal or tilted, is filled with real-time (interactive) or pre-rendered (linear) computer animations, live capture images, or composited environments.
Although the current technology emerged in the early-to-mid 1990s, fulldome environments have evolved from numerous influences, including immersive art and storytelling, with technological roots in domed architecture, planetariums, multi-projector film environments, flight simulation, and virtual reality.
Initial approaches to moving fulldome imagery used wide-angle lenses, both 35 and 70 mm film, but the expense and ungainly nature of the film medium prevented much progress; furthermore, film formats such as Omnimax did not cover the full two pi steradians of the dome surface, leaving a section of the dome blank (though, due to seating arrangements, that part of the dome was not seen by most viewers). Later approaches to fulldome utilized monochromatic vector graphics systems projected through a fisheye lens. Contemporary configurations employ raster video projectors, either singly or grouped together to cover the dome surface with full-color images and animations.

The planetarium documentary “The Hot and Energetic Universe” presents with the use of Immersive Visualisations and real images the achievements of the modern astronomy, the most advanced terrestrial and orbital observatories, the basic principles electromagnetic radiation and the natural phenomena related to the High Energy Astrophysics.
High Energy Astrophysics plays a key role in understanding the universe. These radiations reveal the processes in the hot and violent universe.
High Energy Astrophysics probes hot gas in clusters of galaxies, which are the most massive objects in the universe. It also probes hot gas accreting around supermassive black holes in the centers of galaxies.
Finally, high energy radiation provides important information about our own galaxy, neutron stars, supernova remnants and stars like our Sun which emit copious amounts of high energy radiation. Europe plays a leading role in high energy astrophysics research.
The XMM-Newton and the Integral missions, are leading the exploration of the X-ray and gamma-ray universe. ESA‘s mission ATHENA, to be launched in 2028, will carry the most sensitive X-ray telescope ever and it will be the flagship of all high X-ray missions.
The producer of the documentary is the “Integrated Activities in the High-Energy Astrophysics Domain” (AHEAD).
AHEAD is a project funded by the European Commission in the framework of Horizon2020 (Access to large scale facilities). It is led by IAPS/INAF in Rome and involves most Universities and Research institutes which are involved in High Energy Astrophysics in Europe. The project aims to combine the efforts of all these Institutes in the analysis of X-ray data and facilitate the access to infrastructures distributed across Europe.
