I used to live in Merritt BC a long time ago, in another century and Kamloops, some 60 miles away was the big city to go shopping in. Why they even had a shopping center and a K-Mart. Over the years Kamloops has spread out all over but the downtown still looks the same and as we were driving out of town the number of commercial signs that said For Sale and For Rent hint at tough times ahead.

The Kamloops Bike Ranch was the first stop of our short mountain bike road trip through BC. Matt was quick to take a nasty pedal to the shin before the wind picked up. Things got sketchy, Matt crashed again on the upper trails, so we kept it mellow for the rest of the day. We met Corey from Saskatoon, who showed us how to hit the big boy jumps.

Kamloops cops taser and pepper spray man with a hatchet
KAMLOOPS – A bystander waiting for a bus captured on video a police confrontation with a violent man at the bus loop near the Northhills Mall in Kamloops on Friday.
Two officers on patrol on Tranquille Road near Sydney Avenue, June 3, were following up on a report about two men drinking alcohol at the bus stop, according to a RCMP media release. The officers approached the men and advised them they were not allowed to drink alcohol in a public place. One of the two men was cooperative, but the other became belligerent.

Last Summer a bunch of mtb buddies and I went on a mountain biking trip to the Kamloops Bike Ranch and Sunpeaks!
We shuttled the whole time we were freeriding in kamloops so that was great, so we didn’t have to do any hiking.
The big dirt jumps are really fun at the bike ranch, but only the biggest set, the smaller ones just feel awkward. We rode a really awesome trail called Wrangler which has lots of sweet jumps and awesome berms, it’s really fun but it was kind of hard to keep the speed up. We also rode Rio and that was great, I really like that trail too.
It was pretty hot out and getting dusty, so that didn’t help too much. Of course I am still riding my old blue norco truax frame because this was from last summer.

Kamloops
Kamloops is a city in south central British Columbia in Canada, located at the confluence of the two branches of the Thompson River near Kamloops Lake. It is the largest community in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and the location of the regional district's offices. The surrounding region is more commonly referred to as the Thompson Country. It is ranked 37th on the list of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in Canada and represents the 44th largest census agglomeration nationwide, with 85,678 residents in 2011.
History
Prior to the arrival of European settlers, the Cree-Saulteaux band led by Chief Yawassannay had migrated to this region in the early 15th century where they met the local Secwepemc (Shuswap) nation (part of the Interior Salish language group). The Yawassanay band's Kamloops settlement was the largest of their three tribal areas. The first European explorers arrived in 1811, in the person of David Stuart, sent out from Fort Astoria, then still a Pacific Fur Company post, and who spent a winter there with the Secwepemc people, with Alexander Ross establishing a post there in May 1812 - "Fort Cumcloups".

KAMLOOPS – A bystander waiting for a bus captured on video a police confrontation with a violent man at the bus loop near the Northhills Mall in Kamloops on Friday.
Two officers on patrol on Tranquille Road near Sydney Avenue, June 3, were following up on a report about two men drinking alcohol at the bus stop, according to a RCMP media release. Last Summer a bunch of mtb buddies and I went on a mountain biking trip to the Kamloops Bike Ranch and Sunpeaks!
We shuttled the whole time we were freeriding in kamloops so that was great, so we didn’t have to do any hiking.
The big dirt jumps are really fun at the bike ranch, but only the biggest set, the smaller ones just feel awkward. We rode a really awesome trail called Wrangler which has lots of sweet jumps and awesome berms, it’s really fun but it was kind of hard to keep the speed up. We also rode Rio and that was great, I really like that trail too.
It was pretty hot out and getting dusty, so that didn’t help too much. Of course I am still riding my old blue norco truax frame because this was from last summer.
