Three jury members of the Jodi Arias trial spoke out in a TV interview to set the record straight. These jurors did not appear to buy Jodi's accounts of what happened. They were 3 of the 8 jurors who voted for the death penalty: Kevin (a banker), Diane Schwartz (a retired 911 worker) and Mary Lou (an ER Nurse). "Jodi played us" said one of them. Diane is the jury member who mouthed the words "I'm sorry" to the Alexander family after the "No Unanimous Agreement" verdict was read in the penalty phase. Early this month in the aggravation phase of the trial, the jurors took less than two hours to reach an agreement that Jodi's murder was "especially cruel", making her eligible for the death penalty. However, in the penalty phase when it came to decide whether she lived or died, they couldn't decide. The jurors were likely very polarized and strong in their convictions at this stage. After only 2 and a half hours of deliberating life or death, they handed a note to the judge saying that they were stuck. They likely realized early that some jurors weren't going to be changing their minds. After instructed by the judge to keep trying, they continued to deliberate for more than 15 hours over three days. They still could not agree and ultimately reached a verdict of "No Unanimous Agreement." Jodi only needed 1 juror to vote for life -- she got 4, the other 8 voted for death. The prosecutor's office now has an option to re-try the penalty phase or offer Jodi a deal. A new jury is scheduled to be selected for the re-trial of the penalty phase.
