Indian Idol

Indian Idol is the Indian version of the Pop Idol format. It started airing in India with the first season in 2004–2005 and was followed by second (2005–2006), third (2007) and fourth (2008–2009) seasons. The fifth season of Indian aired on Sony TV in 2010. It was launched by the programming team at SET of Tarun Katial and Anupama Mandloi.

Seasons

Season 1

The winner of the first season of Indian Idol was Abhijeet Sawant from Mumbai. The season was aired from October 2004 to March 2005 on Sony TV. Amit Sana from Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, was declared the first runner-up, while Rahul Vaidya from Nagpur and Prajakta Shukre from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, placed third and fourth respectively.

The judges for the first season were Anu Malik, Sonu Nigam, and Farah Khan. They retained the same spot for the second season. The first season was hosted by Aman Verma and Mini Mathur.

The winner, Abhijeet Sawant, went on to release his first album Aap Ka Abhijeet. He placed third in Asian Idol, representing India. He also released a successful second album, Junoon, and contributed to the film Ashiq Banaya Apne. He also did some commercials for Spraymint. He started acting with his debut film Lottery, which was released in March 2009 but did not do well at the box office.

Indian Idol Junior

Indian Idol Junior is an Indian reality television singing competition. It is a spin-off of Indian Idol. It began broadcasting on Sony Entertainment Television Asia from June 1, 2013.Karan Wahi and Mandira Bedi were hosts of the show which was judged by music duo Vishal-Shekhar and with playback singer Shreya Ghoshal.

A second season started on 30 May 2015. The new judges were Salim Merchant and Sonakshi Sinha, while Vishal Dadlani reprised his role as the judge. The show was hosted by Hussain Kuwajerwala and co-hosted by Asha Negi.

Season One

Anjana Padmanabhan was the winner.

Govinda was a substitute judge for Shreya Ghoshal during an episode.

Guests included Farhan Akhtar, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, and Bappi Lahiri.Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone featured as special guests to promote their upcoming film "Chennai Express".

The top 11 contestants were invited back to perform for the grand finale. Shahid Kapoor, Ram Charan and Priyanka Chopra were also present. Amitabh Bachan gave away the first Indian Idol Junior trophy to Anjana Padmanaban.
