Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

It is a democratic and ethical life stance, which affirms that human beings have the right and responsibility to give meaning and shape to their own lives. It stands for the building of a more humane society through an ethic based on human and other natural values in the spirit of reason and free inquiry through human capabilities. Humanism is an approach in study, philosophy, world view, or practice that focuses on human values and concerns, attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters. According to Greg M. Epstein, "Humanism today can be categorized as a movement, a philosophy of life or worldview, or ... [a] lifestance." In philosophy and social science, humanism is a perspective which affirms some notion of human nature, and is contrasted with anti-humanism.[citation needed]
Secular humanism is a secular ideology which espouses reason, ethics, and justice, whilst specifically rejecting supernatural and religious dogma as a basis of morality and decision-making. Secular humanism contrasts with religious humanism, which is an integration of humanist ethical philosophy with religious rituals and beliefs that center on human needs, interests, and abilities.Renaissance humanism is a cultural movement of the Italian Renaissance based on the study of classical works.
Religious and secular humanism arose from a trajectory extending from the deism and anti-clericalism of the Enlightenment, the various secular movements of the 19th century (such as positivism), and the overarching expansion of the scientific project.[citation needed]

It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. Ronald introduces existentialism and how it provides the philosophical component. Existential philosophers as a whole are rather inaccessible to the general population because they present their ideas in complex language, as if they were only talking to each other, and their ideas often come across as gloom and doom. The takeaway part of existentialism is the focus on individuality and freedom, and that doesn’t have to be viewed in a negative light at all. In fact, Jean Paul Sartre had a great time with it in post world war 2 Paris. Sartre also introduced the idea that existentialism may be a humanism, and while he failed to develop it he did provide the beginnings of a framework that we will be building on. Richard Carrier, Ph.D., is a philosopher and historian with degrees from Berkeley and Columbia, specializing in the contemporary philosophy of naturalism, and in Greco-Roman philosophy, science, and religion, including the origins of Christianity. Existential philosophers as a whole are rather inaccessible to the general population because they present their ideas in complex language, as if they were only talking to each other, and their ideas often come across as gloom and doom. The takeaway part of existentialism is the focus on individuality and freedom, and that doesn’t have to be viewed in a negative light at all. In fact, Jean Paul Sartre had a great time with it in post world war 2 Paris. Sartre also introduced the idea that existentialism may be a humanism, and while he failed to develop it he did provide the beginnings of a framework that we will be building on. Skeptical Atheist Secular Humanism in Canada.
When I was invited to speak at the Shift to Reason conference in Regina Saskatchewan, other secular Humanist skeptical atheist groups asked me to hop over to a couple cities in Alberta while I was in town. Thanks to the Society of Edmonton Atheists, Center For Inquiry in Calgary, and the Mount Royal University Secular Humanists, the Brainstorm Podcast, and also British Columbia Humanists for collaborating on this tour. When the entire city of Fort McMurray had to be evacuated, we were not that far south of there, in Edmonton. Each of the groups I met with, in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver, all took up collections for relief funds. That's because they're not just skeptical atheists; they're secular humanists too. -

YouTube comments are at present disabled in our channel, to the displeasure of some. However, each video has a prominent link to the associated open thread that appears on our blog. In the past we've tried opening up the channel to comments, but we found that a very high number of episodes wound up being flooded with a combination of spam, long winded apologists, and various obscene or misogynistic comments directed at various hosts by people with an axe to grind. This seems to be the nature of YouTube comment sections, in our experience.
We do moderate the blog, the same way that we moderate chat during the show, as well as comments on our Facebook group. For comment sections that are "officially" associated with our show (and, to a much lesser extent, channels that may give the unintended appearance of being official), we prefer not to play host to straight up ad hominem attacks and bigotry. As a general policy we do not block commenters simply on the basis of disagreement with our point of view. However, we do prefer discussion environments that don't actively chase off more reasonable contributors.
