A diptych (/ˈdɪptɪk/; from the Greek δίπτυχον,di "two" + ptychē "fold") is any object with two flat plates attached at a hinge. In particular the standard notebook and school exercise book of the ancient world was the diptych consisting of a pair of such plates that were wax tablets, with on their inside faces a recessed space filled with wax. This took writing made with a pointed stylus. When the notes were no longer needed the wax could be slightly heated and then smoothed to allow reuse. Ordinary versions had wooden frames, but luxury ones were made in more expensive materials.
In Late Antiquity, ivory notebook diptychs with covers carved in low relief on the outer faces were a significant art-form: the "consular diptych" was made to celebrate an individual's becoming Roman consul, when they seem to have been made in sets and distributed by the new consul to friends and followers. Others may have been made to celebrate a wedding, or, perhaps like the Poet and Muse diptych at Monza, simply commissioned for private use. Some of the most important surviving works of the Late Roman Empire are diptychs, of which some dozens survive, preserved in some instances by being reversed and re-used as book covers. The largest surviving Byzantine ivory panel (428 mm × 143 mm), is a leaf from a diptych in the Justinian court manner of c. 525–50, which features an archangel.
The Range is part of the original grounds of the University of Virginia as designed by Thomas Jefferson in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA. The Range buildings run parallel to and face away from the Lawn, and are separated from the Lawn by a series of ten gardens (five per side).
There are six "hotels" on the Range, three on each side. Originally used as dining facilities, the hotels today include a number of administrative office spaces as well as the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society.
The Range rooms serve as student housing for accomplished graduate students. They are furnished identically to undergraduate Lawn rooms, but are larger area-wise. Previous well-known Range residents include Edgar Allan Poe (13 West Range) and Woodrow Wilson (31 West Range). During his residence in 13 West Range, Poe allegedly etched his initials into a pane of window glass – a pane that has since been shattered. Visitors to the West Range can peer inside Poe's room, which is furnished in the style of his era and maintained by the Raven Society, and listen to a brief recording that describes Poe's time at the University. A glass doorway preserves the historic quality of the room. Thirteen West Range is open to the public once each year during Historic Garden Week.

Andy Warhol used a famous photograph of Marilyn Monroe to make an artwork which is like an advert. In this work, he used a printing technique by pulling inks through a screen mesh using a rubber squeegee. So that, he could quickly reproduce the same image on lots of different canvasses.
Combine images in Lightroom. Create diptychs or triptychs, etc. This is the 2nd tutorial I've created on making diptychs in LR. The first, made in LR3, was based closely on a tutorial by San Francisco photographer Jay Watson. I've re-made the tutorial using LR4 but it is still derived from Mr. Watson's tutorial. There would have been little reason to re-make his original other than to tweak some information to suit an assignment I give to my students, to ensure it still works with the most recent release of LR, and to provide a closed caption option for my deaf students. Note: The cause of the sliver of space between the 2 photos was that I failed to zero out the Horizontal Cell Spacing in the Layout Panel of LR's Print Module. In this episode of The Complete Picture we’re going to discuss how to select multiple images to work together as diptychs and triptychs. You will learn how similar attributes such as color and shape, mood and lighting, line and form will help to unify two (or more) photographs, perhaps even creating new meaning though the relationship of the imagery.
