The role of the finance director varies according to the size of the company. Basically, they oversee all financial aspects of a company's strategy and are responsible for the flow of financial information to the chief executive, the board and other interested parties such as investors or financial institutions.
They work with all departments of a business to help them plan and manage their budgets. In a bigger company the role is often more strategic and involves a lot of analysis. In a smaller, company the role may be more hands on.

In many cases, the finance director will also be responsible for corporate administration, legal affairs, and the company's internal information technology infrastructure. They need to be able to handle difficult situations and react quickly to identify and solve problems.
They work in an office environment and generally work long hours. They are often called on to work longer periods when dealing with a financial crisis to successfully manage complex

Responsibilities & Skills

The finance director has overall control of the company's accounting functions and provides advice to the chief executive and senior management.
They are responsible for producing financial targets and budgets, control financial transactions, accountancy and audit systems. They prepare the annual accounts and ensure that the company meets all its regulatory requirements.
