Sonny (Duvall) is a charismatic Pentecostal preacher. His wife Jessie (Fawcett) has begun an adulterous relationship with a youth minister named Horace. She refuses Sonny's desire to reconcile, although she assures him that she will not interfere with his right to see his children. She has also conspired to use their church's bylaws to have him removed from power. Sonny asks God what to do but receives no answer. Much of the congregation sides with Jessie in this dispute. Sonny, however, refuses to start a new church, insisting that the one which forced him out was "his" church. At his child's Little League game, Sonny, in an emotional fit, attacks Horace with a bat and puts him into a coma. Horace later dies.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF SAINT THOMAS - The Apostle The Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle on July 3 every year. He is best known in religious accounts as "Doubting Thomas" because of his initial unwillingness to believe the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Catholic faithful are familiar with the Biblical story of the apostle's later encounter with the Risen Christ, who asked him to place his finger at the mark of the nails on His pierced hands and side. St. Thomas then turned from his doubt and embraced the truth of the resurrection. On September 27, 2006, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said that Apostle Thomas' case is important for three reasons: "First, it comforts us in our insecurity; second, it shows us that every doubt can lead to an outcome brighter than any uncer...

"We're all convinced sooner or later, Jack" A vid of my all-time favorite character centered around one of my favorite scenes =) I've always loved Jack and Ben's church scene where Ben tells the story of Thomas the Apostle because I feel that it sums up Jack's transformation from a man of science to a man of faith perfectly. **No Copyright Infringement Intended
In this highly charged and dramatic account of the event that unfold before and after the death of Christ. This fascinating film version of "Thomas" life sees the impact of Jesus Christ through another pair of eyes and bring to life the fear of the apostles, their conflict and struggles under the yoke of Roman occupation and their lives after the passing of the Messiah.

Thomas the Apostle was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, according to the New Testament. He is informally called doubting Thomas because he doubted Jesus' resurrection when first told , followed later by his confession of faith, "My Lord and my God", on seeing Jesus' wounded body.Traditionally, he is said to have travelled outside the Roman Empire to preach the Gospel, travelling as far as Tamilakam and Kerala in present-day India.According to tradition, the Apostle reached Muziris, Tamilakam present day India in AD 52 and baptized several people, founding what today are known as Saint Thomas Christians or Nasranis. ---Image-Copyright-and-Permission--- About the author(s): 18 century icon painter License: Public domain ---Image-Copyright-and-Permission--- This channel is dedicat...
A Brief History of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church In 1837, the Diocese of Natchez administered the entire state of Mississippi including the missions on the Gulf Coast. During the 1840's,the first parishes were established in BaySt. Louis, Pass Christian, and Biloxi. There were only a scattering of Catholics living in other coastal communities. The Catholic families of the Long Beach area had to rely on occasional visits by priests assigned to the coastal missions for their spiritual care. Those families traveled (on foot, horseback or by wagon) to attend church services. The first known Mass celebrated in Long Beach was in 1891 at the home of Thomas Camp located at the southeast corner of Jeff Davis Avenue and Fourth Street.
