Hatha Yoga is a gentle style of yoga exercise that is great for beginners and senior citizens. It improves balance and overall health, while increasing flexibility and circulation. Attendees should also bring yoga mats, and shoes will not be worn during the class.
Instructor Virginia Wainwright will teach all yoga sessions.
Zumba combines
Latin and international music with dynamic, yet simple exercise moves. Benefits of Zumba include efficient calorie-burning, muscle toning and cardiovascular improvement. New instructor
Melissa Brewer will lead all Zumba classes.
Turbo Kick, led by instructor
Ashley Donaldson, is a fast-paced, high-energy cardio program billed as kickboxing with an edge. Participants will receive the full benefits of kickboxing accompanied by a few extra bursts of 90-second intensity intervals, all set to the latest dance music. Turbo Kick focuses on relieving stress, burning calories, losing weight and building cardiovascular health.
PiYo is a hybrid athletic workout combining Pilates moves with yoga poses in continuous, fluid movement. Features of PiYo include deep breathing, stretching, strength training, conditioning and dynamic movement.
The program will also help participants build and add flexibility to muscle, increase cardiac health and the range of motion in joints, improve balance and energy and reduce stress. Attendees should bring their own yoga mats. Meghan
Phillips will instruct the Sunday classes, and Donaldson will lead the Monday classes.
Billed as the "end of exercise," CIZE is a newer dance fitness program that breaks down a full dance routine into step-by-step moves. While learning the dance steps, participants will burn fat and calories. The cardio program is recommended for any fitness level, and no prior dance experience is required. Tuesday sessions in Waynesburg will be led by Donaldson, and Phillips will instruct the Wednesday sessions in Greensboro.
Donaldson, Phillips and new instructor
Chaley Knight will each lead sessions of "P90X
Live." The workout builds strength and tones lean muscle with a cutting-edge mix of resistance training, cardio, martial arts, yoga and more. Attendees should bring a yoga mat and one set of hand weights, weighing one to 10 pounds, depending on comfort level. Knight will instruct the Tuesday classes, and on Wednesdays, Donaldson will lead the Waynesburg classes and Phillips will handle the Greensboro classes.
All class attendees should plan to wear sweat-absorbing clothes and good support shoes and bring water and towels. A minimum of nine participants is required to hold a class. Classes may be canceled due to participation or inclement weather, and announcements will be made on
WANB Radio.
The fitness classes are sponsored by the Greene County Commissioners. For more information, or to pre-register for any of the classes, call the Department of Recreation at 724-852-5323, or visit www.co.greene.pa.us.
