Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth were an influential rap group from Mount Vernon, New York. They made their debut in the rap world with their 1991 EP, All Souled Out. It sold moderately well enough to justify Elektra Records clearing the way for 1992's Mecca and the Soul Brother LP.
As a producer, DJ Pete Rock (Peter Phillips) tended to prefer obscure soul and jazz sides for sample sources, frequently making use of horn-driven hooks. Lead vocalist CL Smooth (Corey Penn) tended to be philosophical in his raps, and he mostly avoided profanity. Their signature hit was They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.), a dirge for fallen friends--namely Troy "Trouble T-Roy" Dixon, a member of Heavy D & The Boyz, who died in 1990.
1994's The Main Ingredient was the follow up, and they appeared on a string of guest appearances for remixes, soundtracks, and other works. Public Enemy, EPMD, Heavy D and Johnny Gill were among the artists they collaborated with, and they can also claim credit for producing (and performing on) Run-DMCs 1993 comeback single 'Down with the King'. Despite all this, the duo failed to go gold on any of their own releases.
Separating in 1995 (shortly after a well-received Sprite TV commercial), they eventually reunited on a handful of cuts from Pete Rocks solo recordings: Soul Survivor (1998), PeteStrumentals (2001) and Soul Survivor II (2004). They also went on a brief reunion tour as a warm up for their then-anticipated new album, which ended with a show at London's famous Jazz Cafe. Despite these intermittent collaborations, the pair has exchanged dismissive comments toward each other in separate interviews, disavowing plans for a full-fledged reunion.

Bohemia Afterdark launched on TVs in 1982 and operated in Phoenix, AZ, but early history is unknown until 1990 when they moved to Portland, Oregon. In 1992 they began airing on KPDX Portland and then they move to KWBP in 1994. In 1995 they began airing on 22 Network One affiliates. In 1997 Network One shut down and the service moved to KOIN and in 2001, the service moved back to Phoenix, airing on KASW, then in 2002, moved to KPHO-TV. In 2003 they got their own station, KPHE-LP, at the time broadcasting on channel 19 in Mesa, Arizona, and changed their name to Bohemia Visual Music. KPHE moved to channel 44 in Phoenix in 2005.[2] Bohemia Visual Music changed their name to 24-7 Videos for a few months from mid-2005 to early-2006, then reverted to Bohemia Visual Music.

As one-half of the classic-era hip-hop duo Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, C.L. Smooth was responsible for penning some of hip-hop's timeless classics, including "The Creator," "Straighten It Out," "Take You There," and the landmark "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)." His smooth voice, effortless flow, and conscious lyrics were easily recognizable signatures of Smooth's style, and with Pete Rock's soulful and funky backing, they distinguished themselves as a formidable duo even amid the flourishing of many other acclaimed alternative rap groups in the early '90s. Smooth, born Corey Penn, was raised on his grandparents' jazz music. Growing up in Mount Vernon, NY, his grandfather always used to find ways of integrating jazz into many aspects of his daily life; thus, it was only natural that Smooth would gravitate toward his literal soul partner, Pete Rock, a friend whom he met in grade school. Signed to Elektra, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth released three highly regarded efforts — 1991's All Souled Out EP, 1992's Mecca and the Soul Brother, and 1994's The Main Ingredient — which quickly inducted them into hip-hop's elite with similar jazz-rap groups like A Tribe Called Quest and Gang Starr. Nonetheless, after their second full-length, the two went their separate ways in 1995.
Rock continued to build his extensive producer résumé, becoming one of hip-hop's most revered beatsmiths, but Smooth receded from rap music almost entirely, contributing only a few guest rhymes here and there, including on Rock's 1998 solo album Soul Survivor. In 2004, after almost ten years from their breakup, Smooth and Rock announced a reunion album. Upon the release of the vinyl 12" "Shine on Me" b/w "Climax," the duo was very enthusiastically welcomed back, though mostly among underground hip-hop listeners. Very soon afterward, however, the two could not reconcile, and given the bitter remarks traded between each other in interviews, the prospect of their working together seemed no longer a possibility. Within a year of the failed reunion project, news spread of Smooth's signing with Shaman Work Recordings' eclectic, independent hip-hop roster. And ending the decade-long retreat, he released his first solo album, American Me, in October 2006.

Pete Rock
Peter Phillips (born June 21, 1970), better known by his stage name Pete Rock, is an American record producer, DJ and rapper. He rose to prominence in the early 1990s as one half of the critically acclaimed group Pete Rock & CL Smooth. After the duo went their separate ways, Rock continued with a solo career that has garnered him worldwide respect, though little in the way of mainstream success. Along with groups such as Stetsasonic, Gang Starr, A Tribe Called Quest and The Roots, Rock played a major role in the merging of elements from jazz into hip hop music (also known as jazz rap). He is widely recognized as one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time, and is often mentioned alongside DJ Premier, RZA and J Dilla as one of the mainstays of 1990s East Coast hip hop production. Pete Rock is also the older brother and younger cousin, respectively, of rappers Grap Luva and the late Heavy D.
Biography
Early life
Pete Rock was born in The Bronx, New York, the sixth of seven children born to Jamaican immigrant parents. His family moved to Mount Vernon, New York when he was seven years old. During high school, he met his future recording partner CL Smooth. According to Rock, his father was also a part-time DJ who had an impressive record collection. Rock would often accompany his father to a cricket club called Wembley in The Bronx and watch as he spun records for the guests. His first job was as a paperboy, in his neighborhood.

Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth were an influential rap group from Mount Vernon, New York. They made their debut in the rap world with their 1991 EP, All Souled Out. It sold moderately well enough to justify Elektra Records clearing the way for 1992's Mecca and the Soul Brother LP.
As a producer, DJ Pete Rock (Peter Phillips) tended to prefer obscure soul and jazz sides for sample sources, frequently making use of horn-driven hooks. Lead vocalist CL Smooth (Corey Penn) tended to be philosophical in his raps, and he mostly avoided profanity. Their signature hit was They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.), a dirge for fallen friends--namely Troy "Trouble T-Roy" Dixon, a member of Heavy D & The Boyz, who died in 1990.
1994's The Main Ingredient was the follow up, and they appeared on a string of guest appearances for remixes, soundtracks, and other works. Public Enemy, EPMD, Heavy D and Johnny Gill were among the artists they collaborated with, and they can also claim credit for producing (and performing on) Run-DMCs 1993 comeback single 'Down with the King'. Despite all this, the duo failed to go gold on any of their own releases.
Separating in 1995 (shortly after a well-received Sprite TV commercial), they eventually reunited on a handful of cuts from Pete Rocks solo recordings: Soul Survivor (1998), PeteStrumentals (2001) and Soul Survivor II (2004). They also went on a brief reunion tour as a warm up for their then-anticipated new album, which ended with a show at London's famous Jazz Cafe. Despite these intermittent collaborations, the pair has exchanged dismissive comments toward each other in separate interviews, disavowing plans for a full-fledged reunion.

In 1992 they began airing on KPDX Portland and then they move to KWBP in 1994. In 1995 they began airing on 22 Network One affiliates. In 1997 Network One shut down and the service moved to KOIN and in 2001, the service moved back to Phoenix, airing on KASW, then in 2002, moved to KPHO-TV. In 2003 they got their own station, KPHE-LP, at the time broadcasting on channel 19 in Mesa, Arizona, and changed their name to Bohemia Visual Music. KPHE moved to channel 44 in Phoenix in 2005.[2] Bohemia Visual Music changed their name to 24-7 Videos for a few months from mid-2005 to early-2006, then reverted to Bohemia Visual Music.

Smooth, born Corey Penn, was raised on his grandparents' jazz music. Growing up in Mount Vernon, NY, his grandfather always used to find ways of integrating jazz into many aspects of his daily life; thus, it was only natural that Smooth would gravitate toward his literal soul partner, Pete Rock, a friend whom he met in grade school. Signed to Elektra, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth released three highly regarded efforts — 1991's All Souled Out EP, 1992's Mecca and the Soul Brother, and 1994's The Main Ingredient — which quickly inducted them into hip-hop's elite with similar jazz-rap groups like A Tribe Called Quest and Gang Starr. Nonetheless, after their second full-length, the two went their separate ways in 1995.
Rock continued to build his extensive producer résumé, becoming one of hip-hop's most revered beatsmiths, but Smooth receded from rap music almost entirely, contributing only a few guest rhymes here and there, including on Rock's 1998 solo album Soul Survivor. In 2004, after almost ten years from their breakup, Smooth and Rock announced a reunion album. Upon the release of the vinyl 12" "Shine on Me" b/w "Climax," the duo was very enthusiastically welcomed back, though mostly among underground hip-hop listeners. Very soon afterward, however, the two could not reconcile, and given the bitter remarks traded between each other in interviews, the prospect of their working together seemed no longer a possibility. Within a year of the failed reunion project, news spread of Smooth's signing with Shaman Work Recordings' eclectic, independent hip-hop roster. And ending the decade-long retreat, he released his first solo album, American Me, in October 2006.
