With superheroes dominating the box office around the world, the average movie fan can probably tell you the biggest points in any superhero’s origin story. But the origin stories and classic comic arcs that every fan knows by heart are usually the ones the publisher wants them to remember. Are there any Asian superheroes out there?
If so, are they even any good?
Are they just caricatures of Asian stereotypes?
Do people even want there to be Asian superheroes?
There are a lot of comic book fans out there, and many of them are Asian. Yet historically, superheroes of Asian descent have been a rare thing in the Marvel & DC universes.
With movies like Captain America Civil War, Batman vs Superman and Deadpool already having broken several box office records this year, superhero movies are only getting more popular.
And you know, you have the first female solo superhero film in quite some time coming out in 2017 with DC’s Wonder Woman, and the first black solo superhero film in some time coming out in 2018 with Marvel’s Black Panther. Makes me wonder when we’ll see the first Asian solo superhero film on the big screen.
But we’re a long ways off because first, we actually need a successful and popular Asian superhero in the comics, and thus far, it’s not clear if we even have one.
Well you be the judge.
Here are 10 Asian superheroes from Marvel and D.C.
1. Jubilee (Marvel)
- arguably the most well-known Asian superhero
- a Chinese-American girl born in LA
- X-Men’s youngest member in the early 1990s
- often fighting alongside Wolverine as his sidekick
- has received much hate for being a bratty ‘mall rat’ with lame powers (fireworks)
2. Shang Chi (Marvel)
- created in the 1970s, a period in time where people were crazy for Bruce Lee and anything Kung Fu related
- the premiere Asian character of the 70s
- born in China
- son & nemesis of the infamous, wealthy international Chinese crime lord Fu Manchu.
- his mother is an unknown American woman ( AMWF )
- has no superpowers, but is an expert in all forms of martial arts
- unfortunately as stereotypically Asian as you can get
3. Sunfire (Marvel)
- Japan’s premiere superhero
- just like Shang Chi, an Asian character of overt Asian symbolisms.
- real name, Shiro Yoshida
- born to a mother who suffered radiation poisoning (Hiroshima atomic bomb)
- became a mutant possessing solar radiation powers
4. Atom (DC)
- real name, Ryan Choi
- super smart & gets good grades
- can be quite the ladies’ man
- from Hong Kong
- protege of original Atom, Ray Palmer
- the Atom is a super hero who can shrink to a subatomic size (like Ant-Man)
- pretty noteworthy because first time an Asian guy took over the mantle of an existing superhero with an already established fan base
- too bad he only appeared in 78 issues before being killed off by the assassin, Deathstroke
- his death became the subject of racial controversy as he had been one of the few high profile Asian characters in the DC Universe
5. Batgirl (DC)
- real name, Cassandra Cain
- she’s a halfie, with a white dad and a Chinese mom
- adopted by Bruce Wayne, aka Batman.
- under Batman’s watch, she became Batgirl
- some refer to her as the Asian Batgirl
6. Psylocke (Marvel)
- a controversial entry because technically, she isn’t Asian!
- real name is Elizabeth “Betsy” Braddock, originally a blonde haired girl from Essex, Great Britain
- a mutant with vast telepathic and telekinetic powers and a long time X-Man.
- had her soul transferred into the body of a Japanese female ninja
- in X-Men: Apocalypse movie she is played by Olivia Munn (Is this another example of whitewashing in Hollywood?)
7. Ms. Marvel (Marvel)
- real name, Kamala Khan, the second Ms. Marvel who made her debut in 2013
- a Pakistani Muslim teenage girl living in New Jersey from a very traditional Pakistani family.
- is an inhuman (a race of superhumans)
- her power makes her able to stretch her body in unimaginable ways
- took the moniker of Ms. Marvel from her favourite superhero Carol Danvers
8. Silk (Marvel)
- real name Cindy Moon, a Korean American girl.
- Spiderman was bitten by a radioactive spider but what we didn’t know was, so did another student
9. Hulk (Marvel)
- in 2015 we were introduced to a Korean Hulk.
- real name, Amadeus Cho, a Korean American
- this new Hulk fights gamma monsters while traveling cross country with his sister Maddy in a flying Korean BBQ truck
10. Superman
- DC one upped Marvel by making one of, if not, the most iconic superhero of all time Asian.
- Superman is now Chinese!
- a 17 year old kid from Shanghai named Kenan Kong
- you can imagine the outrage this has caused as ‘superman is supposed to be white’ and American

I just got done playing Lego Batman 3, and there are SO MANY CHARACTERS to unlock. Seriously, like 150. And while a lot of the comic book characters I recognized -- Joker, Lex Luthor, Hal Jordan and the Green Lanterns -- there was a WHOLE lot more that I didn't, like a half-Superman, half-Batman hybrid, and a robotic Superman, and a Batman COW! So I'm digging deep into comic lore to shed some light on these lesser-known characters, and what I've found is that the characters you DON'T know are WAY cooler than the ones that you DO!

Facts about "comic book" "superhero" origins that I bet you didn't know about "Spider man", "Superman", "The Incredible Hulk".
Marvel originally feared that spider-man would scare people
Spider-Man is without doubt one of Marvel's most famous, popular, and money-spinning characters. But Spidey was very close to being kicked in the wastepaper bin mere moments after making it off the drawing board. Martin Goodman, head of Marvel at the time, told Spider-Man creator Stan Lee that he thought the new hero was a "rotten idea" for a comic book hero for the simple fact that people were scared of spiders—so they'd supposedly be scared of him.
Superman Was Originally a Bald Megalomaniac
Let's list Superman's visual attributes: tall, handsome, with a charming smile; broad shouldered, and with a full head of slicked-back hair. But things could've been very different indeed. The son of Krypton's creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, originally conceived of The Superman as a telepathic scientist obsessed with world domination. And the kicker? He was bald. An evil Professor Xavier if you will. But by the time Superman had found a publisher—a six year process—the character had become the dashing hero, with a full head of hair, whom we know and love today.
The Hulk Was supposed to be grey
what's the first thing you think about when you imagine the hulk?
the fact that he's bright green right?
well this very nearly wasnt the case. stan lee always intended for the hulk to be grey-snd so he was, in the very first issue of the series the incredible hulk in 1962.
but due to the fact that there were major problems with the inconsistency of the printing, they ended up having to choose a color instead. One of the most consistent colors in print at the time was green, so they opted for that.
The Joker Was Going to Die in Batman No.1
The Joker has to be the best super villain of all time. But Bob Kane the creator of batman was ready to kill off the evil jester in his very first appearance. As with many of Batman's early villains, the plan was to have the Joker die through some fatal accident. Batman's editor Whitney Ellsworth saw potential in the character, however, and forced Kane to include a panel showing the Joker coming back to life.
the dark knight would have sucked without the joker.

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is packed with all the Easter Eggs and References towards DC Comics, previous DC Comic films, the animated universe and other blockbuster projects. Of course not all could be considered Easter Eggs and References so this video extends to hints, nods, sly winks, vaguely interesting facts and a whole lot more.
We kick things off with references to one of the greatest Batman stories of all time, The Dark Knight Returns. There’s a whole lot of imagery, diaglog ripped right from it and scenes that play out practically identically to Batman V Superman’s comic counterpart. There’s also hints towards other comics including The Death Of Superman, A Death In The Family, Superman Peace Of Earth, The Flashpoint Paradox and a whole lot more.
There’s also character Easter Eggs referring to The Joker, The Riddler, Vicky Vale, KG Beast, Jimmy Olson, Carol Ferris, Green Lantern, Cyborg, The Flash, Aquaman and Wonder Woman’s origin. As well as what we can expect from future films including the arrival of Darkseid and potentially even Brainiac.
Other DC Films are also acknowledged including Batman 1989 (and not just all the murders), Batman Forever, Man Of Steel (obviously), the animated feature Mask Of The Phantasm, Superman The Movie, Superman 2 with this extending to films outside the DC Universe including Star Wars and Zorro.

Superman
Superman is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. He was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster in 1933; later, in 1938, the character was sold to Detective Comics, Inc. (later DC Comics). Superman first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June 1938) and subsequently appeared in various radio serials, newspaper strips, television programs, films, and video games. With this success, Superman helped to create the superhero genre and establish its primacy within the American comic book.
Superman's appearance is distinctive and iconic; he usually wears a blue costume, red cape, and stylized red-and-yellow "S" shield on his chest. This shield is used in a myriad of media to symbolize the character. The origin story of Superman relates that he was born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, before being rocketed to Earth as an infant by his scientist father Jor-El, moments before Krypton's destruction. Discovered and adopted by a Kansas farmer and his wife, the child is raised as Clark Kent and imbued with a strong moral compass. Very early on he started to display various superhuman abilities, which, upon reaching maturity, he resolved to use for the benefit of humanity through a secret "Superman" identity. Superman resides and operates in the fictional American city of Metropolis. As Clark Kent, he is a journalist for the Daily Planet, a Metropolis newspaper. Superman's love interest is generally Lois Lane, and his archenemy is supervillain Lex Luthor. He is typically a member of the Justice League and close ally of Batman and Wonder Woman. Like other characters in the DC Universe, several alternate versions of Superman have been produced.

Superhero
In modern popular fiction, a superhero (sometimes rendered super-hero or super hero) is a type of heroic character possessing extraordinary talents, supernatural phenomena, or superhuman powers and is dedicated to a moral goal or protecting the public. A female superhero is sometimes called a superheroine (also rendered super-heroine or super heroine). Fiction centered on such characters, especially in American comic books since the 1930s, is known as superhero fiction.
By most definitions, characters do not require actual supernatural or superhuman powers or phenomena to be deemed superheroes. While the Dictionary.com definition of "superhero" is "A figure, especially in a comic strip or cartoon, endowed with superhuman powers and usually portrayed as fighting evil or crime," the longstanding Merriam-Webster dictionary gives the definition as "a fictional hero having extraordinary or superhuman powers; also : an exceptionally skillful or successful person". Terms such as masked crime fighters, costumed adventurers or masked vigilantes are sometimes used to refer to characters such as the Spirit, who may not be explicitly referred to as superheroes but nevertheless share similar traits.

If so, are they even any good? Are they just caricatures of Asian stereotypes? Do people even want there to be Asian superheroes? There are a lot of comic book fans out there, and many of them are Asian. Yet historically, superheroes of Asian descent have been a rare thing in the Marvel & DC universes. With movies like Captain America Civil War, Batman vs Superman and Deadpool already having broken several box office records this year, superhero movies are only getting more popular. And you know, you have the first female solo superhero film in quite some time coming out in 2017 with DC’s Wonder Woman, and the first black solo superhero film in some time coming out in 2018 with Marvel’s Black Panther. Makes me wonder when we’ll see the first Asian solo superhero film on the big screen. But we’re a long ways off because first, we actually need a successful and popular Asian superhero in the comics, and thus far, it’s not clear if we even have one. Well you be the judge. Here are 10 Asian superheroes from Marvel and D.C. 1. Jubilee (Marvel) - arguably the most well-known Asian superhero - a Chinese-American girl born in LA - X-Men’s youngest member in the early 1990s - often fighting alongside Wolverine as his sidekick - has received much hate for being a bratty ‘mall rat’ with lame powers (fireworks) 2. Shang Chi (Marvel) - created in the 1970s, a period in time where people were crazy for Bruce Lee and anything Kung Fu related - the premiere Asian character of the 70s - born in China - son & nemesis of the infamous, wealthy international Chinese crime lord Fu Manchu. - his mother is an unknown American woman ( AMWF ) - has no superpowers, but is an expert in all forms of martial arts - unfortunately as stereotypically Asian as you can get 3. Sunfire (Marvel) - Japan’s premiere superhero - just like Shang Chi, an Asian character of overt Asian symbolisms. - real name, Shiro Yoshida - born to a mother who suffered radiation poisoning (Hiroshima atomic bomb) - became a mutant possessing solar radiation powers 4. Atom (DC) - real name, Ryan Choi - super smart & gets good grades - can be quite the ladies’ man - from Hong Kong - protege of original Atom, Ray Palmer - the Atom is a super hero who can shrink to a subatomic size (like Ant-Man) - pretty noteworthy because first time an Asian guy took over the mantle of an existing superhero with an already established fan base - too bad he only appeared in 78 issues before being killed off by the assassin, Deathstroke - his death became the subject of racial controversy as he had been one of the few high profile Asian characters in the DC Universe 5. Batgirl (DC) - real name, Cassandra Cain - she’s a halfie, with a white dad and a Chinese mom - adopted by Bruce Wayne, aka Batman. - under Batman’s watch, she became Batgirl - some refer to her as the Asian Batgirl 6. Psylocke (Marvel) - a controversial entry because technically, she isn’t Asian! - real name is Elizabeth “Betsy” Braddock, originally a blonde haired girl from Essex, Great Britain - a mutant with vast telepathic and telekinetic powers and a long time X-Man. - had her soul transferred into the body of a Japanese female ninja - in X-Men: Apocalypse movie she is played by Olivia Munn (Is this another example of whitewashing in Hollywood?) 7. Ms. Marvel (Marvel) - real name, Kamala Khan, the second Ms. Marvel who made her debut in 2013 - a Pakistani Muslim teenage girl living in New Jersey from a very traditional Pakistani family. - is an inhuman (a race of superhumans) - her power makes her able to stretch her body in unimaginable ways - took the moniker of Ms. Marvel from her favourite superhero Carol Danvers 8. Silk (Marvel) - real name Cindy Moon, a Korean American girl. - Spiderman was bitten by a radioactive spider but what we didn’t know was, so did another student 9. Hulk (Marvel) - in 2015 we were introduced to a Korean Hulk. - real name, Amadeus Cho, a Korean American - this new Hulk fights gamma monsters while traveling cross country with his sister Maddy in a flying Korean BBQ truck 10. Superman - DC one upped Marvel by making one of, if not, the most iconic superhero of all time Asian. - Superman is now Chinese! - a 17 year old kid from Shanghai named Kenan Kong - you can imagine the outrage this has caused as ‘superman is supposed to be white’ and American How do you feel about the evolution of Asian superheroes over time? Facts about "comic book" "superhero" origins that I bet you didn't know about "Spider man", "Superman", "The Incredible Hulk". Marvel originally feared that spider-man would scare people Spider-Man is without doubt one of Marvel's most famous, popular, and money-spinning characters. But Spidey was very close to being kicked in the wastepaper bin mere moments after making it off the drawing board. Martin Goodman, head of Marvel at the time, told Spider-Man creator Stan Lee that he thought the new hero was a "rotten idea" for a comic book hero for the simple fact that people were scared of spiders—so they'd supposedly be scared of him. Superman Was Originally a Bald Megalomaniac Let's list Superman's visual attributes: tall, handsome, with a charming smile; broad shouldered, and with a full head of slicked-back hair. But things could've been very different indeed. The son of Krypton's creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, originally conceived of The Superman as a telepathic scientist obsessed with world domination. And the kicker? He was bald. An evil Professor Xavier if you will. But by the time Superman had found a publisher—a six year process—the character had become the dashing hero, with a full head of hair, whom we know and love today. The Hulk Was supposed to be grey what's the first thing you think about when you imagine the hulk? the fact that he's bright green right? well this very nearly wasnt the case. stan lee always intended for the hulk to be grey-snd so he was, in the very first issue of the series the incredible hulk in 1962. but due to the fact that there were major problems with the inconsistency of the printing, they ended up having to choose a color instead. One of the most consistent colors in print at the time was green, so they opted for that. The Joker Was Going to Die in Batman No.1 The Joker has to be the best super villain of all time. But Bob Kane the creator of batman was ready to kill off the evil jester in his very first appearance. As with many of Batman's early villains, the plan was to have the Joker die through some fatal accident. Batman's editor Whitney Ellsworth saw potential in the character, however, and forced Kane to include a panel showing the Joker coming back to life. the dark knight would have sucked without the joker. -

Other DC Films are also acknowledged including Batman 1989 (and not just all the murders), Batman Forever, Man Of Steel (obviously), the animated feature Mask Of The Phantasm, Superman The Movie, Superman 2 with this extending to films outside the DC Universe including Star Wars and Zorro. Are there any Asian superheroes out there?
If so, are they even any good?
Are they just caricatures of Asian stereotypes?
Do people even want there to be Asian superheroes?
There are a lot of comic book fans out there, and many of them are Asian. Yet historically, superheroes of Asian descent have been a rare thing in the Marvel & DC universes.
With movies like Captain America Civil War, Batman vs Superman and Deadpool already having broken several box office records this year, superhero movies are only getting more popular.
And you know, you have the first female solo superhero film in quite some time coming out in 2017 with DC’s Wonder Woman, and the first black solo superhero film in some time coming out in 2018 with Marvel’s Black Panther. Makes me wonder when we’ll see the first Asian solo superhero film on the big screen.
But we’re a long ways off because first, we actually need a successful and popular Asian superhero in the comics, and thus far, it’s not clear if we even have one.
Well you be the judge.
Here are 10 Asian superheroes from Marvel and D.C.
1. Jubilee (Marvel)
- arguably the most well-known Asian superhero
- a Chinese-American girl born in LA
- X-Men’s youngest member in the early 1990s
- often fighting alongside Wolverine as his sidekick
- has received much hate for being a bratty ‘mall rat’ with lame powers (fireworks)
2. Shang Chi (Marvel)
- created in the 1970s, a period in time where people were crazy for Bruce Lee and anything Kung Fu related
- the premiere Asian character of the 70s
- born in China
- son & nemesis of the infamous, wealthy international Chinese crime lord Fu Manchu.
- his mother is an unknown American woman ( AMWF )
- has no superpowers, but is an expert in all forms of martial arts
- unfortunately as stereotypically Asian as you can get
3. Sunfire (Marvel)
- Japan’s premiere superhero
- just like Shang Chi, an Asian character of overt Asian symbolisms.
- real name, Shiro Yoshida
- born to a mother who suffered radiation poisoning (Hiroshima atomic bomb)
- became a mutant possessing solar radiation powers
4. Atom (DC)
- real name, Ryan Choi
- super smart & gets good grades
- can be quite the ladies’ man
- from Hong Kong
- protege of original Atom, Ray Palmer
- the Atom is a super hero who can shrink to a subatomic size (like Ant-Man)
- pretty noteworthy because first time an Asian guy took over the mantle of an existing superhero with an already established fan base
- too bad he only appeared in 78 issues before being killed off by the assassin, Deathstroke
- his death became the subject of racial controversy as he had been one of the few high profile Asian characters in the DC Universe
5. Batgirl (DC)
- real name, Cassandra Cain
- she’s a halfie, with a white dad and a Chinese mom
- adopted by Bruce Wayne, aka Batman.
- under Batman’s watch, she became Batgirl
- some refer to her as the Asian Batgirl
6. Psylocke (Marvel)
- a controversial entry because technically, she isn’t Asian!
- real name is Elizabeth “Betsy” Braddock, originally a blonde haired girl from Essex, Great Britain
- a mutant with vast telepathic and telekinetic powers and a long time X-Man.
- had her soul transferred into the body of a Japanese female ninja
- in X-Men: Apocalypse movie she is played by Olivia Munn (Is this another example of whitewashing in Hollywood?)
7. Ms. Marvel (Marvel)
- real name, Kamala Khan, the second Ms. Marvel who made her debut in 2013
- a Pakistani Muslim teenage girl living in New Jersey from a very traditional Pakistani family.
- is an inhuman (a race of superhumans)
- her power makes her able to stretch her body in unimaginable ways
- took the moniker of Ms. Marvel from her favourite superhero Carol Danvers
8. Silk (Marvel)
- real name Cindy Moon, a Korean American girl.
- Spiderman was bitten by a radioactive spider but what we didn’t know was, so did another student
9. Hulk (Marvel)
- in 2015 we were introduced to a Korean Hulk.
- real name, Amadeus Cho, a Korean American
- this new Hulk fights gamma monsters while traveling cross country with his sister Maddy in a flying Korean BBQ truck
10. Superman
- DC one upped Marvel by making one of, if not, the most iconic superhero of all time Asian.
- Superman is now Chinese!
- a 17 year old kid from Shanghai named Kenan Kong
- you can imagine the outrage this has caused as ‘superman is supposed to be white’ and American

I just got done playing Lego Batman 3, and there are SO MANY CHARACTERS to unlock. Seriously, like 150. And while a lot of the comic book characters I recognized -- Joker, Lex Luthor, Hal Jordan and the Green Lanterns -- there was a WHOLE lot more that I didn't, like a half-Superman, half-Batman hybrid, and a robotic Superman, and a Batman COW! So I'm digging deep into comic lore to shed some light on these lesser-known characters, and what I've found is that the characters you DON'T know are WAY cooler than the ones that you DO!

Marvel originally feared that spider-man would scare people
Spider-Man is without doubt one of Marvel's most famous, popular, and money-spinning characters. But Spidey was very close to being kicked in the wastepaper bin mere moments after making it off the drawing board. Martin Goodman, head of Marvel at the time, told Spider-Man creator Stan Lee that he thought the new hero was a "rotten idea" for a comic book hero for the simple fact that people were scared of spiders—so they'd supposedly be scared of him.
Superman Was Originally a Bald Megalomaniac
Let's list Superman's visual attributes: tall, handsome, with a charming smile; broad shouldered, and with a full head of slicked-back hair. But things could've been very different indeed. The son of Krypton's creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, originally conceived of The Superman as a telepathic scientist obsessed with world domination. And the kicker? He was bald. An evil Professor Xavier if you will. But by the time Superman had found a publisher—a six year process—the character had become the dashing hero, with a full head of hair, whom we know and love today.
The Hulk Was supposed to be grey
what's the first thing you think about when you imagine the hulk?
the fact that he's bright green right?
well this very nearly wasnt the case. stan lee always intended for the hulk to be grey-snd so he was, in the very first issue of the series the incredible hulk in 1962.
but due to the fact that there were major problems with the inconsistency of the printing, they ended up having to choose a color instead. One of the most consistent colors in print at the time was green, so they opted for that.
The Joker Was Going to Die in Batman No.1
The Joker has to be the best super villain of all time. But Bob Kane the creator of batman was ready to kill off the evil jester in his very first appearance. As with many of Batman's early villains, the plan was to have the Joker die through some fatal accident. Batman's editor Whitney Ellsworth saw potential in the character, however, and forced Kane to include a panel showing the Joker coming back to life.
the dark knight would have sucked without the joker.

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is packed with all the Easter Eggs and References towards DC Comics, previous DC Comic films, the animated universe and other blockbuster projects. Of course not all could be considered Easter Eggs and References so this video extends to hints, nods, sly winks, vaguely interesting facts and a whole lot more.
We kick things off with references to one of the greatest Batman stories of all time, The Dark Knight Returns. There’s a whole lot of imagery, diaglog ripped right from it and scenes that play out practically identically to Batman V Superman’s comic counterpart. There’s also hints towards other comics including The Death Of Superman, A Death In The Family, Superman Peace Of Earth, The Flashpoint Paradox and a whole lot more.
There’s also character Easter Eggs referring to The Joker, The Riddler, Vicky Vale, KG Beast, Jimmy Olson, Carol Ferris, Green Lantern, Cyborg, The Flash, Aquaman and Wonder Woman’s origin. As well as what we can expect from future films including the arrival of Darkseid and potentially even Brainiac.
Other DC Films are also acknowledged including Batman 1989 (and not just all the murders), Batman Forever, Man Of Steel (obviously), the animated feature Mask Of The Phantasm, Superman The Movie, Superman 2 with this extending to films outside the DC Universe including Star Wars and Zorro.

Comedian, actor, writer and producer Garry Shandling, best known for “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show” and The Larry Sanders Show, died Thursday for as yet unknown reasons. A spokesman for the LAPD said they received a 911 call from Shandling’s home on Thursday, saying only that the Shandling suffered from a “medical emergency.” He later died at an L.A. hospital. He was 66 years old.
Despite the less-than-stellar reviews by critics for Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice the stars and director Zack Snyder are not letting it get them down. Superman himself, Henry Cavill, was the first to comment on the reviews saying the critics don’t really matter - it’s the audience that will dictate its longevity and whether or not more films will be made because they’re the ones that are buying the tickets.
There’s a political showdown happening in Georgia over a controversial new bill that would protect religious officials from having to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies while also allowing faith-based organizations to deny services of employment to those who violate their religious beliefs. With the bill now on the desk of Governor Nathan Deal. With big tax incentives, the state has become the go-to place for Hollywood productions with Marvel and Disney utilizing the incentive as well as The Walking Dead.

Not wanting to be left out of the superhero conversation, 20th Century Fox and Empire magazine have released new images from their latest mutant superhero movie X-Men Apocalypse. The new images feature a look at Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse while the other features Ben Hardy’s mutant Angel before he changes in to one of the Four Horsemen of Archangel.
Warner Bros. has released the first trailer from Hangover director Todd Phillips’ War Dogs starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller. Based on a true story, War Dogs follows two friends living in Miami during the first Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts.
La Femme Nikita and The Fifth Element director Luc Besson has released a first image from his newest Sci-Fi movie, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Yesterday, Besson tweeted out a photo of his two leads, Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne in costume, giving us our first look at what might movie will look like. Based on the graphic novel of the same name, the movie is about Valerian played by DeHaan and Laureline played by Cara Delevingne who are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe.

Comedian, actor, writer and producer Garry Shandling, best known for “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show” and The Larry Sanders Show, died Thursday for as yet unknown reasons. A spokesman for the LAPD said they received a 911 call from Shandling’s home on Thursday, saying only that the Shandling suffered from a “medical emergency.” He later died at an L.A. hospital. He was 66 years old.
Despite the less-than-stellar reviews by critics for Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice the stars and director Zack Snyder are not letting it get them down. Superman himself, Henry Cavill, was the first to comment on the reviews saying the critics don’t really matter - it’s the audience that will dictate its longevity and whether or not more films will be made because they’re the ones that are buying the tickets.
There’s a political showdown happening in Georgia over a controversial new bill that would protect religious officials from having to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies while also allowing faith-based organizations to deny services of employment to those who violate their religious beliefs. With the bill now on the desk of Governor Nathan Deal. With big tax incentives, the state has become the go-to place for Hollywood productions with Marvel and Disney utilizing the incentive as well as The Walking Dead.

Not wanting to be left out of the superhero conversation, 20th Century Fox and Empire magazine have released new images from their latest mutant superhero movie X-Men Apocalypse. The new images feature a look at Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse while the other features Ben Hardy’s mutant Angel before he changes in to one of the Four Horsemen of Archangel.
Warner Bros. has released the first trailer from Hangover director Todd Phillips’ War Dogs starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller. Based on a true story, War Dogs follows two friends living in Miami during the first Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts.

It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend box office report brought to you by our friends at AMC Theaters. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice shattered box office predictions opening up at Number 1 with $170.1 million dollars domestic marking the biggest debut of a DC Comics film ever and the sixth-biggest domestic opening weekend of all-time. Overseas it opened to $254 million from 66 markets for a global debut of $424.1 million, the number 1 showing of all time for a superhero adaptation and the fourth-biggest for any title. Zootopia took the Number 2 spot with $23.1 million to push the domestic total to $240.5 million. At Number 3 was My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 earning $18.1 million. There was a tie for the Number 4 spot with Miracle from Heaven and The Divergent Series: Allegiant both taking in $9.5 million dollars. And at Number 5, 10 Cloverfield Lane with 6 million.
An update on last week’s story on Marvel and Disney boycotting the state of Georgia if a controversial religious liberty bill dubbed by critics as “anti-gay” was signed into law. In a report from Variety, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal will veto the bill after mounting pressure from major corporations and media companies condemned the measure.
Kingsman 2 is inching closer and closer to production and now we have some concept art and a new title, this according to writer/director Mattew Vaughn. In an interview with Empire Magazine, Vaughn revealed the new title to be Kingsman: The Golden Circle. The Empire article also included four pieces of concept art, which includes a first look at the Kingsman cab that can dive deep underwater like a submarine; a bombed-out Kingsman headquarters, The Statesman headquarters and the lair of the villain, Poppy, that will be played by Julianne Moore. Kingsman: The Golden Circle is slated for a release on June 10th, 2017.

Over the weekend at WonderCon, Warner Bros and director James Wan released the newest trailer for The Conjuring 2. In the trailer, Ed and Lorraine Warren played by Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are now being hunted by an angry spirit that’s been channeling itself through a young English child.
After Warner Bros and New Line debuted the Conjuring 2 trailer, they next turned to another horror movie with the debut look at Lights Out, the first movie from director David Sandberg based on the viral short film he created by the same name. James Wan produces from his Atomic Monster Productions. Lights Out is the tale of an unknown terror that lurks in the dark. Holding a mysterious attachment to a mother played by Maria Bello, a supernatural entity has returned with a vengeance to torment the entire family.
Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for the sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Directed by Earth to Echo filmmaker Dave Green, the sequel sees the turtles facing off against a number of familiar faces from the comics and cartoons including a small peek at Krang with more action shots of Bebop and Rocksteady. The spot also shows Arrow star Stephen Amell as the hockey stick-wielding Casey Jones.
Warner Bros. released a second teaser trailer for The LEGO Batman Movie directed by Chris McKay. The new teaser directly addresses seeing Thomas and Martha Wayne murdered again and again and again in every Batman movie released in the years past, also referencing this weekends latest, Batman v Superman.

It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend box office report brought to you by our friends at AMC Theaters. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice shattered box office predictions opening up at Number 1 with $170.1 million dollars domestic marking the biggest debut of a DC Comics film ever and the sixth-biggest domestic opening weekend of all-time. Overseas it opened to $254 million from 66 markets for a global debut of $424.1 million, the number 1 showing of all time for a superhero adaptation and the fourth-biggest for any title. Zootopia took the Number 2 spot with $23.1 million to push the domestic total to $240.5 million. At Number 3 was My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 earning $18.1 million. There was a tie for the Number 4 spot with Miracle from Heaven and The Divergent Series: Allegiant both taking in $9.5 million dollars. And at Number 5, 10 Cloverfield Lane with 6 million.
An update on last week’s story on Marvel and Disney boycotting the state of Georgia if a controversial religious liberty bill dubbed by critics as “anti-gay” was signed into law. In a report from Variety, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal will veto the bill after mounting pressure from major corporations and media companies condemned the measure.
Kingsman 2 is inching closer and closer to production and now we have some concept art and a new title, this according to writer/director Mattew Vaughn.
