Latin American Food and Music Festival This festival is about integration through food, music, games and family and friends activities. It is a day to enjoy, to relax and to eat with pleasure authentic food. These foods use authentic ingredients and preventing people from getting any harmful ingredients. Some of these recipes have been inherited by our grandmother’s mothers. So while people take a bite they are not only tasting tradition but also a cooking skill inherited from our ancestor. During our Latin American Food and Music Festival we are giving two cooking workshop to a very affordable price. We want to teach anyone who might be interested easy skills to eat healthy, tasteful and without having to spend as many hours as our Grandmothers spent in the kitchen. During our Latin American Food Festival we will have original Tex - Mex food from Mexico, Great combinations of stewed meat in aromatic sauces from Costa Rica. A succulent Pig Roasted in The Chinese Box – Cuban and Dominican Republic style, served with rice in beans and fresh green salad. There will be also a special Brazilian BBQ, made carefully by the catering service of Restaurant Samba Pizza in Tianmu. My dearest Peruvian from Polleria, roasted chicken in traditional Peruvian sauce accompanied with “chicha morada” and papas bravas is not to miss. Yet, people will have the opportunity to try the unique ‘Mayan dishes’ carefully prepared by our Guatemala member, Mrs. Escobar, Ecuador with their delicious Ceviche and seafood brochetas, Chilean pastries from the young Chilean restaurant owner Stupid Reed. Of course there’s no Latin Life if there’s no good rum, so we have Ron Abuelo from Panama and Rum – Runners from Martinique. We have the presence of members from: Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia, Chile, Dominican Republic, Guatemalan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, and Martinique. We have special countries invited: Russia – beer brewers, Germany – Bloch Brewery and Australian sausages. We are very friendly that we cannot say no to other food vendors and sponsors. Sponsors are highly appreciated and I make sure that each one of them receives the attention and exposure needed. Therefore, I have my professional photographer – well- known Nicaraguan journalist based in Taipei taking pictures, and of course I have a professional video maker who makes a short clip of each vendor’s presence. This is a lot of work and coordination, but my aim is not only commercial, on the contrary, that we all build up our network in a friendly and yet, professional way. This is the substantial survival element in our Latin Market, especially since our Community does not receive any financial aid from any governmental institution. I am very proud to have created this self-empowering method, because I believe that we can work hard to achieve our goals and united we can make these things happen. We will have music from all Latin America, and also live MUSIC. Thanks God we have own band, and they play exclusively for our main events. These are truly great musicians from Mexico, Nicaragua, Honduras, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada and the USA. This band plays only top Latin hits songs, such as ‘Bailando’ by Enrique Iglesias, ‘Vivir mi vida’ by Marc Anthony, ‘Mi tierra’ by Gloria Stephan, ‘Corazon Espinado’ by Carlos Santana, and some famous bachata. Bachata is a delightful and sexy dance born in the Dominican Republic and now danced world-wide. We will have from 2:30 – 17:00 we will have a dancing room, anybody can dance, sing their favorite songs, and feel the truly Latino warmth. Food in Latin American culture is as essential as water and as important as rice in the Taiwanese daily diet. This festival tries to honor and respect our mothers, grandmothers and anybody who kindly and gently taught us how to cook. For example Mrs. Escobar, from Guatemala, while cooking her ‘Mayan dish’ she is offering the public an ancient tradition and cooking ingredients. These dishes are pre- colonial; they are a part of her ancestors. The purpose of this festival is to give the public in general to have a taste – of course depending of the ingredients, a real taste of ‘the food made by mama’.
