Yahoo's shares shot up after the struggling internet company fired its chief executive Carol Bartz.
In a message to Yahoo employees Bartz said Chairman Roy Bostock dumped her with a phone call.
Bartz had failed to turn around the company which is losing market share to Google and Facebook.
During her tenure, which started in January 2009, there was also a falling out with Yahoo's Asian partner Alibaba, in which it has a 40 percent stake.

Fired former Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz could lose $10 million for violating a non-disparagement clause when she raged that the company's board members 'f***ed me over.' Miss Bartz, in an interview with Fortune after her Tuesday firing by phone, also said the board was 'trying to show that they're not the doofuses that they are.' However, according to Fortune, her contract with Yahoo contained a clause barring her from criticizing the internet company. A source told the magazine that Bartz could lose $10 million over her pointed comments.
That clause, if violated, could allow Yahoo to cancel a $10 million payout, due if she was fired. Bartz, 63, was hired in January 2009 and fired in a Tuesday phone call from Yahoo chairman Roy Bostock. She told Forbes that Bostock began reading a lawyer's prepared statement during their call - and that she blasted him.
"I said, 'Roy, I think that's a script. Why don't you have the balls to tell me yourself?'" Bartz recounted. Her closing shot: "I thought you were much classier." Yahoo is gaining after the market open today after news on Sunday that CEO Scott Thompson is stepping down.
The internet company said Ross Levinsohn will become interim CEO, one of the number of changes in Yahoo's leadership.
The Chairman of the Board, Roy Bostock, is also being replaced by Fred Amoroso, effective immediately.
This comes as Yahoo creates a settlement agreement with Third Point, a hedge fund that has a 5.8% stake in the internet company. Three employees from Third Point will join the Yahoo board as well, replacing three others who disclosed their intentions to not stand for re-election.
Fred Amoroso, the new Chairman of the Yahoo! Board of Directors said, "The Board is pleased to announce these changes and the settlement with Third Point, and is confident that they will serve the best interests of our shareholders and further accelerate the substantial advances the Company has made operationally and organizationally since last August. The Board believes in the strength of the Company's business and assets, and in the opportunities before us, and I am honored to work closely with my fellow directors and Ross to continue to drive Yahoo! forward."
Currently, Yahoo is up over 2% to $15.49 in early morning trading.

Roy J. Bostock
Roy J. Bostock is an American businessman who served as chairman of Yahoo! Inc. from January 2008 to May 2012. He currently serves on the board of directors of Delta Air Lines. From 2000 to 2001 he served as chairman of the advertising firm BCom3 Group, Inc. He is the former chairman of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America and is a Trustee Emeritus of Duke University.
Early life
Bostock is a 1962 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Duke, where he was an English Literature major and a member of the varsity baseball and football teams. Bostock also received an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Career
Bostock joined Benton & Bowles in 1964. Following the merger and subsequent creation of D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles in 1985, he served as president of the combined company. From 1990 to 1996, he served as chairman and CEO of the company. He also served as chairman and CEO of the McManus Group from 1996 to 2000 and chairman of B/Com3 from 2000 to 2002.
On 6 September 2011 Bostock fired Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz by telephone after stormy weather prevented their scheduled face-to-face meeting. Third Point LLC, which has a 5.2% in Yahoo, called for Bostock's resignation along with the rest of the board for a number of reasons.

Carol Bartz
Carol Ann Bartz (born August 28, 1948) is an American business executive, the former president and CEO of the internet services company Yahoo!, and former chairman, president, and CEO at architectural and engineering design software company Autodesk.
Early life and education
Bartz was born in Winona, Minnesota, the daughter of Shirley Ann (née Giese) and Virgil Julius Bartz. Her mother died when Carol was eight years old. A few years later, she and her younger brother, Jim, moved from Minnesota to the home of their grandmother, Alice, on a dairy farm near Alma, Wisconsin. In high school, Bartz did well in mathematics, and was also homecoming queen. She began college at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri, and subsequently transferred to the University of Wisconsin–Madison where she received a bachelor's degree in computer science in 1971. While in college, she supported herself as a cocktail waitress. Bartz also has two half brothers and two half sisters all living in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Yahoo is gaining after the market open today after news on Sunday that CEO Scott Thompson is stepping down. The internet company said Ross Levinsohn will become interim CEO, one of the number of changes in Yahoo's leadership. The Chairman of the Board, Roy Bostock, is also being replaced by Fred Amoroso, effective immediately. This comes as Yahoo creates a settlement agreement with Third Point, a hedge fund that has a 5.8% stake in the internet company. Three employees from Third Point will join the Yahoo board as well, replacing three others who disclosed their intentions to not stand for re-election. Fred Amoroso, the new Chairman of the Yahoo! Board of Directors said, "The Board is pleased to announce these changes and the settlement with Third Point, and is confident that they will serve the best interests of our shareholders and further accelerate the substantial advances the Company has made operationally and organizationally since last August. The Board believes in the strength of the Company's business and assets, and in the opportunities before us, and I am honored to work closely with my fellow directors and Ross to continue to drive Yahoo! forward." Currently, Yahoo is up over 2% to $15.49 in early morning trading. -

Yahoo is gaining after the market open today after news on Sunday that CEO Scott Thompson is stepping down.
The internet company said Ross Levinsohn will become interim CEO, one of the number of changes in Yahoo's leadership.
The Chairman of the Board, Roy Bostock, is also being replaced by Fred Amoroso, effective immediately.
This comes as Yahoo creates a settlement agreement with Third Point, a hedge fund that has a 5.8% stake in the internet company. Three employees from Third Point will join the Yahoo board as well, replacing three others who disclosed their intentions to not stand for re-election.
Fred Amoroso, the new Chairman of the Yahoo! Board of Directors said, "The Board is pleased to announce these changes and the settlement with Third Point, and is confident that they will serve the best interests of our shareholders and further accelerate the substantial advances the Company has made operationally and organizationally since last August. The Board believes in the strength of the Company's business and assets, and in the opportunities before us, and I am honored to work closely with my fellow directors and Ross to continue to drive Yahoo! forward."
Currently, Yahoo is up over 2% to $15.49 in early morning trading.

A counter bombardment coastal artillery battery in the Karori suburb. Was built between 1942 and 1947 and is predominantly underground, with numerous tunnels linking the war shelters, gun emplacements, magazines, plotting rooms and engine room.
08. Zealandia
A protected natural area where the biodiversity of 225 ha of forest is being restored. Formerly known as the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary was previously part of the water catchment area, between Wrights Hill and the Brooklyn wind turbine on Polhill.
09. Te Papa Tongarewa
The national museum and art gallery of New Zealand. It is branded and commonly known as Te Papa and Our Place; "Te Papa Tongarewa" is broadly translatable as "the place of treasures of this land".
10. Space Place at Carter Observatory
Houses two main telescopes within its main building and a third telescope nearby. Re-opened in March 2010 with a new exhibition and digital planetarium celebrating the culture, heritage and science of the Southern Skies.
