HOLY CRAP GUYS... I finally made it to Baghdad - the wild capital city of Iraq! It's a place that I've been dreaming of visiting for 5 years now, and I was luckily able to pick up the visa at the Iraqi embassy in Istanbul a few weeks ago.
In the first episode of this 9-part series, I document the stressful, yet exhilarating experience of getting into Baghdad with my fellow 'every country' buddy Alvaro (https://www.instagram.com/wanderreds/). Our first 24 hours has been a roller coaster of emotions, but in the end, I am LOVING it here and I can't wait to see more! 🇮🇶 Have I ever mentioned to you that ...

Iraq Explained -- ISIS, Syria and War
The current crisis in Iraq explained in under 5 minutes.
There is war in Iraq? Again? And the US and Iran are talking about working together? And who is this ISIS Terrorist group that is all over the news? And Religion? Oh dear... When exactly has the world gone mad again?
It is not possible to explain a complicated topic like this without simplification. We are very aware that this video is not painting a full picture of the situation. But we hope that it may lay the foundation on which you can try to do your own research and understand how horribly Fu**ed up the whole situation is.
We did have to produce the video super fast -- thanks a lot to our friends Martin Wackerbauer and Magnus Schlüter for helping us out -- we would not have been able to make this video in time without you g...

Iraq War 2003 Explained | Why Bush and Blair attacked Saddam Hussein
What caused the Iraq War in 2003? The simple answer is 9/11.
In this episode of IWM Stories, Chris Cooper explores the timeline of events that led from the 9/11 terror attacks to US President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair invading Saddam Hussein's Iraq. From Saddam's use of chemical and biological weapons during the Iran-Iraq War to the First Gulf War in 1991 and from the 9/11 terror attacks to UN weapons inspections the Iraq War has a long and complicated history that goes far beyond oil and weapons of mass destruction.

In Iraq, ISIS has morphed from a caliphate into an underground criminal network. VICE News correspondent Ben C. Solomon embeds with Iraqi security forces as they hunt down what is left of the Islamic State. As the country faces spikes of COVID-19, economic downturn and old problems of sectarian isolation, the future of the once massive terrorist organization is unclear.

This week, I traveled to the beautiful country of Iraq. All my life I'd heard of the war in Iraq and how dangerous it was to visit, but I wanted to go there and explore if for myself to hear the stories that didn't make it into the media. So, along with Drew Binsky, Lexie Alford and Cory Martin, we were taken around Iraqi Kurdistan by our amazing guide, Baderkhan.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Mandatory Iraq
The Kingdom of Iraq under British Administration or Mandatory Iraq was created in 1921 following the 1920 Iraqi Revolt against the proposed British Mandate of Mesopotamia, and enacted via the 1922 Anglo-Iraqi Treaty.
Faisal ibn Husayn, who had been proclaimed King of Syria by a Syrian National Congress in Damascus in March 1920, was ejected by the French in July of the same year. Faisal was then granted by the British the territory of Iraq, to rule it as a kingdom, with the British Royal Air Force retaining certain military control, though de facto; the territory remained under British administration until 1932.

The French and British colonial powers had their own plans on how to rule the Middle East after the costly campaigns of World War 1. National self determination for the different groups in Syria, Iraq, Palestine and Arabia were not part of these plans. And so in the summer of 1920 the situation in Iraq and Syria escalated and the French-Syrian War and the Iraqi Revolt broke out.

Mandatory Fun: Drawing Class with Max Uriarte
Join us for some mandatory fun! "Terminal Lance" comic creator, former United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Max Uriarte, hosts a live drawing class on VetNet Entrepreneur Track. Max, who was deployed to Iraq twice during his service, had the opportunity to work in combat art and photography and traveled all over Iraq shooting photos and sketching Marines at work. As a Marine, he also served as a gunner, team leader and squad leader. The term "Terminal Lance" comes from a phenomena common to Marine Corps infantry: the inability to pick up the rank of Corporal. Max currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area and is an animation major at the California College of the Arts. According to Max, "Life after the Marines is possible gents, don't let the lifers tell you otherwise."

Mandatory vaccinations: Human rights vs. public health? | COVID-19 Special
COVID-19 has divided the world. Most recently, between the vaccinated and un-vaccinated.
Many American companies, from Google to CNN and United Airlines have made the vaccine compulsory for staff. The alternative - look for a new job.
In Germany, free corona-virus tests are coming to an end. Unvaccinated Germans will have to foot the bill, if they want to eat out or go shopping.
In France, a quarter-million people protested against tightening rules against the unvaccinated. They say liberty is at stake. It's their body their choice. The French government is trying to speed up its vaccination drive, by making life for the non-vaccinated more complicated. Access to trains, domestic flights and restaurants and bars will only be allowed for the fully vaccinated, recently recovered or n...

Access to trains, domestic flights and restaurants and bars will only be allowed for the fully vaccinated, recently recovered or negatively tested.

मेसोपोटामिया का इतिहास | Mesopotamia Civilizations History in Hindi
#MesopotamiaCivilizations#HistoricHindi
Mesopotamia is a historical region of Western Asia situated within the Tigris–Euphrates river system, in the northern part of the Fertile Crescent, in modern days roughly corresponding to most of Iraq, Kuwait, the eastern parts of Syria, Southeastern Turkey, and regions along the Turkish–Syrian and Iran–Iraq borders.
The Sumerians and Akkadians (including Assyrians and Babylonians) dominated Mesopotamia from the beginning of written history (c. 3100 BC) to the fall of Babylon in 539 BC, when it was conquered by the Achaemenid Empire. It fell to Alexander the Great in 332 BC, and after his death, it became part of the Greek Seleucid Empire.

However, snow, melting in the mountains at the source of these two rivers, created an annual flooding. The flooding deposited silt, which is fertile, rich, soil, on the banks of the rivers every year. This is why Mesopotamia is part of the fertile crescent, an area of land in the Middle East t...

Daily Life in Ancient Mesopotamia
Daily life in ancient Mesopotamia cannot be described in the same way one would describe life in ancient Rome or Greece. Mesopotamia was never a single, unified civilization, not even under the Akkadian Empire of Sargon the Great.
Generally speaking, though, from the rise of the cities in c. 4500 BCE to the downfall of Sumer in 1750 BCE, the people of the regions of Mesopotamia did live their lives in similar ways. The civilizations of Mesopotamia placed a great value on the written word. Once writing was invented, c. 3500-3000 BCE, the scribes seem almost obsessed with recording every facet of their cities lives and, because of this, archaeologists and scholars in the present day have a fairly clear understanding of how the people lived and worked.

Hello friends! Welcome to a new Happy Learning video.
Today, we’re going to learn about of the first and most important of human civilisations, today, we’re going to learn about… Mesopotamia!
The word Mesopotamia means “between two rivers in greek! So this civilisation was named because it was situated between two rivers: Tigris and Euphrates.
Within these fertile lands, the first ever city-states were born, four thousand years before Christ! The most important cities were Ur, Urk and Lagash.
These city-states were independent from each other, like small different countries. They were surrounded by a great wall to protect themselves. The Ziggurat, a temple where priests lived, was built in the center of the city. Here, they controlled the trade, agriculture and taxes. The supreme priest had the city's political and religious power
Agricultural fields spread across these cities, which were traversed by irrigation channels that used the river’s water to water cultivations and animals would drink. Most of the city’s citizens were farmers and shepherds, but there were also artesans that sold their own products at the markets.
Because of their well-being, both cities began to grow, but so did the conflicts between them due to the control of land.
These battles arose military leaders that little by little turned into monarchs, Kings!
Between the years three thousand a one thousand B.C., Mesopotamian lands were conquered by various towns or cities. The first one was the Akkadian Empire, then the Babylonian Empire, followed by the Assyrian Empire and finally the Persian Empire.
So we’ve got to know part of Mesopotamia’s history, but do you know why it has been such an important civilisation for humanity?
Well there are many reasons! The first one is, because Mesopotamia was where, around 3500 B.C., the first written language was found. At first, it was composed by simple drawings called pictograms, look at these examples.
Over time, these drawings were simplified and started to transform into symbols, which is what we know today as cuneiform (cuniform) writing. As you can see, this writing was made with a wooden punch over clay boards.
Another great contribution mesopotamia made was its art. They created the arc and vault, that helped them construct magnificent temples and palaces. To decorate the walls and doors within these temples and palaces they used paintings like this one, where the King Ashurbanipal is hunting lions.
By the way, before we say goodbye, Do you know what country Mesopotamia is today?
Well it’s… Irak! you can see it here.

It fell to
Alexander the Great in 332 BC, and after his death, it became part of the Greek Seleucid Empire.

Mesopotamia is considered the cradle, or beginning, of civilization. Here large cities lined the rivers and many advances took place. Mesopotamia at first glance does not look like an ideal place for a civilization to flourish. It is hot and very dry. There is very little rainfall in Lower Mesopotamia. However, snow, melting in the mountains at the source of these two rivers, created an annual flooding. The flooding deposited silt, which is fertile, rich, soil, on the banks of the rivers every year. This is why Mesopotamia is part of the fertile crescent, an area of land in the Middle East that is rich in fertile soil and crescent-shaped.
The Sumerians were the first people to migrate to Mesopotamia, they created a great civilization. Beginning around 5,500 years ago, the Sumerians built cities along the rivers in Lower Mesopotamia, specialized, cooperated, and made many advances in technology. The wheel, plow, and writing (a system which we call cuneiform) are examples of their achievements.

Irak. Aquà podéis verlo.

5:53 Periodo Dinástico Arcaico (2900-2334 a.C.)

The American author Thornton Wilder once wrote, “Babylon once had two million people in it, and all we know about `em is the names of the kings and some copies of wheat contracts and the sales of slaves (Our Town). Wilder was writing fiction, of course, not history, and there was much about Mesopotamian history still unknown at the time he wrote his play; still he was wrong about what the modern world, even the world of his day, knew about the people of Mesopotamia. We actually know a good deal more than just the names of kings and the sales of slaves.
