Rail or rails may refer to:
British Columbia, also commonly referred to by its initials BC, is a province located on the west coast of Canada. British Columbia is also a component of the Pacific Northwest and the Cascadia bioregion, along with the US states of Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Alaska The province's name was chosen in 1858 by members of the Hudson's Bay Company. In 1871, it became the sixth province of Canada. Its Latin motto is Splendor sine occasu ("Splendour without Diminishment").
The capital of British Columbia is Victoria, the fifteenth-largest metropolitan region in Canada, named for the Queen who created the Colony of British Columbia. The largest city is Vancouver, the third-largest metropolitan area in Canada, the largest in Western Canada, and the second-largest in the Pacific Northwest. In October 2013, British Columbia had an estimated population of 4,606,371 (about 2.5 million of whom were in Greater Vancouver). The province is currently governed by the BC Liberal Party, led by Premier Christy Clark, who became leader as a result of a leadership convention vote on February 26, 2011, and who led her party to an election victory on May 14, 2013.

BC Rail - Echoes in the Chasm
Step back to the late 1990s and climb aboard one of BC Rails brutish C40-8 diesels for a fantastic cab ride from sea level at Squamish up through the rugged coastal mountain range to the big sky country at Lilooet. Youll see the line from the crews vantage points and witness the challenge of operating trains over this awesome stretch of railroad. Venerable Budd cars, the icons of BC Rails passenger operation, are exquisitely highlighted as they work up the line. The last Alco powered RS-18 is captured as it switches cars at Squamish. Helper service is shown in detail as we ride an assisted freight up steep mountain grades. Rebuilt Cat-powered diesels are seen toiling at the large yard in North Vancouver. Youll see the school train that provides children with a unique form of transportat...
BCOL 4645 Dash 9-44CW and BCOL 4608 C40-8M lead CN Train 149 stack west by Wales Rd, with a beautifully tuned K5L horn! About 45 minutes later, CN 710 east with CN 2548 Dash 9-44CW, BNSF 6612 ES44C4, and BNSF 5326 C44-9W pass by. EasternOntarioTracks informed me of these trains! Notice the unusual lighting out this morning, along with the snowy trees, which make a nice background. Enjoy!! Winchester Rail Productions

With CN taking over BCOL operations, the BCOL power has been scattered across the CN system, and almost always relegated to trailing positions. However, in former BCOL territory, they can still be had leading. In one beautiful summer day, witness three such trains heading to Prince George, BC.
I decided to make a video consisting of all photos and videos taken of this train while I was on vacation in BC. Wouldn't normally do this, but a train with pure BCR equipment in charge is not something that you will see everyday, if ever again. Hope you enjoy!

The murmur of a K5H (K5 / K5L) horn echoes off the rock faces in Chasm, British Columbia Provincial Park. A fast BCR train then takes a tight curve as it emerges from the woods. Filmed b/w 2002-2004. Double Ditch Light Productions.
Before they tore it out.
More and more videos to come!

The Dash 8 series of locomotives have a 7FDL-16 engine that generates 4000 hp. CN purchased 55 new Dash 8-40CM locomotives with the full car body including the Draper Taper. They also had a long term lease agreement for 25 Dash 8-40CW locomotives from GE's Locomotive Management Services (LMS - later LMSX). These spent 6 months on Conrail and 6 months on CN each year. After the breakup of Conrail CN purchased 12 of these units. CN also acquired 26 Dash 8-40CMs when they purchased BC Rail. These units were add-ons to the original CN order but had been upgraded to Dash 9 specifications and 4400 hp by BC Rail. Since 2010, CN has purchased 77 second hand Dash 8-40Cs from UP (some via CREX) neé CNW and 67 Dash 8-40CWs from BNSF neé ATSF. Units from all these groups have come to Halifax and a...
