Diorama - Miniature Japanese Summer Beach
I tried making a diorama, with the sea in Japan in summer as the theme.
I bought the materials such as polystyrene and clay in a 100-yen shop.
For the paint, I chose ones that are easy to get hold of, or ones that can be used without specialist techniques.
The small objects placed on the beach are made by TOMYTEC.

ジオラマ ミニチュア海水浴場作り
海水浴客で賑わう小さな日本の砂浜を作ってみました。
材料は100円ショップで手に入れたボードや発泡スチロール、粘土などを利用して、塗料は手に入りやすいものやテクニックがなくてもそれっぽく仕上げられそうなものを選んで使ってみました。砂はジオラマ用ではなく飼育中のハムスターの砂風呂用を利用しました。小物類はTOMYTECの情景コレクション、バスコレクションを利用しました。本当は松の木も植えたかったんですが売り切れだったので我慢しました('ω')
スケールは1/150です。
バスには大洗と書かれていますが砂浜の設定は架空のものです。

Diorama - A shopping street in front of a train station.
I turned the station and the stores around it into a diorama.
From the left, the stores on the street are a bakery, a tea house, a fishmonger, a butcher, a grocer, and a sushi shop.
The setting is Japan, around the 1960s and the 1970s.

ジオラマ ミニチュア昭和の駅前商店街作り
駅とその周辺商店街の様子をジオラマにしてみました。時代設定は昭和です。
スケールは1/150です。
100円ショップで手に入れた発泡スチロール板の上にTOMYTEC社製の建物を中心に並べてみました。道路を土にするかアスファルトにするかで迷いましたが今回はアスファルトにしてみました。
電車は江ノ電ですが街は架空のものです。
スペースの関係で信号周りが窮屈になってしまったのが反省点です('ω')

A fun craft project for the kids or for a book report, history class, or science project for school, a diorama brings three-dimensional reality to any idea.
Step 1: Choose theme
Decide on a theme, such as the ocean, the rainforest, the solar system, or a favorite scene from a book. Make a list of all the elements to include and any important action in the scene you want to depict.
Step 2: Decorate box
Turn a cardboard box, like a shoebox, on its side. Paint the colors of the background landscape, including the sea, sky, and ground, or glue construction paper to the inside. Decorate the top and both sides. Let it dry thoroughly.
Step 3: Add figurines
Gather your miniature figurines, or cut out figures from construction paper or cardboard painted to look like the people, objects, or animals in your scene.
Tip
Keep proper scale in mind for realism. The miniature standard is 1 foot to 1 inch.
Step 4: Glue figurines
Work from the back of the box to the front, placing your figures inside. Glue them in place when you find the layout you like.
Step 5: Add details
Consider hanging objects from the top of the box, such as birds, or fish in an ocean scene, using dental floss or sewing thread and clear tape. Those extra details will bring life to your display and wow your classmates!

Diorama
The word diorama /ˌdaɪəˈrɑːmə/ can either refer to a 19th-century mobile theatre device, or, in modern usage, a three-dimensional full-size or miniature model, sometimes enclosed in a glass showcase for a museum. Dioramas are often built by hobbyists as part of related hobbies such as military vehicle modeling, miniature figure modeling, or aircraft modeling.
Etymology
The word "diorama" originated in 1823 as a type of picture-viewing device, from the French in 1822. The word literally means "through that which is seen", from the Greek di- "through" + orama "that which is seen, a sight". The diorama was invented by Daguerre and Charles Marie Bouton, first exhibited in London September 29, 1823. The meaning "small-scale replica of a scene, etc." is from 1902.
Daguerre's diorama consisted of a piece of material painted on both sides. When illuminated from the front, the scene would be shown in one state and by switching to illumination from behind another phase or aspect would be seen. Scenes in daylight changed to moonlight, a train travelling on a track would crash, or an earthquake would be shown in before and after pictures.

Step 1: Choose theme Decide on a theme, such as the ocean, the rainforest, the solar system, or a favorite scene from a book. Make a list of all the elements to include and any important action in the scene you want to depict. Step 2: Decorate box Turn a cardboard box, like a shoebox, on its side. Paint the colors of the background landscape, including the sea, sky, and ground, or glue construction paper to the inside. Decorate the top and both sides. Let it dry thoroughly. Step 3: Add figurines Gather your miniature figurines, or cut out figures from construction paper or cardboard painted to look like the people, objects, or animals in your scene. Tip Keep proper scale in mind for realism. The miniature standard is 1 foot to 1 inch. Step 4: Glue figurines Work from the back of the box to the front, placing your figures inside. Glue them in place when you find the layout you like. Step 5: Add details Consider hanging objects from the top of the box, such as birds, or fish in an ocean scene, using dental floss or sewing thread and clear tape. Those extra details will bring life to your display and wow your classmates! Did You Know? Diorama - Miniature Japanese Summer Beach I tried making a diorama, with the sea in Japan in summer as the theme. I bought the materials such as polystyrene and clay in a 100-yen shop. For the paint, I chose ones that are easy to get hold of, or ones that can be used without specialist techniques. Diorama - A shopping street in front of a train station. I turned the station and the stores around it into a diorama. From the left, the stores on the street are a bakery, a tea house, a fishmonger, a butcher, a grocer, and a sushi shop. I turned the station and the stores around it into a diorama.
From the left, the stores on the street are a bakery, a tea house, a fishmonger, a butcher, a grocer, and a sushi shop.
The setting is Japan, around the 1960s and the 1970s.

駅とその周辺商店街の様子をジオラマにしてみました。時代設定は昭和です。
スケールは1/150です。
100円ショップで手に入れた発泡スチロール板の上にTOMYTEC社製の建物を中心に並べてみました。道路を土にするかアスファルトにするかで迷いましたが今回はアスファルトにしてみました。
電車は江ノ電ですが街は架空のものです。
スペースの関係で信号周りが窮屈になってしまったのが反省点です('ω')

I turned the station and the stores around it into a diorama.

A fun craft project for the kids or for a book report, history class, or science project for school, a diorama brings three-dimensional reality to any idea.
Step 1: Choose theme
Decide on a theme, such as the ocean, the rainforest, the solar system, or a favorite scene from a book. Make a list of all the elements to include and any important action in the scene you want to depict.
Step 2: Decorate box
Turn a cardboard box, like a shoebox, on its side. Paint the colors of the background landscape, including the sea, sky, and ground, or glue construction paper to the inside. Decorate the top and both sides. Let it dry thoroughly.
Step 3: Add figurines
Gather your miniature figurines, or cut out figures from construction paper or cardboard painted to look like the people, objects, or animals in your scene.
Tip
Keep proper scale in mind for realism. The miniature standard is 1 foot to 1 inch.
Step 4: Glue figurines
Work from the back of the box to the front, placing your figures inside. Glue them in place when you find the layout you like.
Step 5: Add details
Consider hanging objects from the top of the box, such as birds, or fish in an ocean scene, using dental floss or sewing thread and clear tape. Those extra details will bring life to your display and wow your classmates!
