Naval Gunfire on San Clemente Island 1
Marines in the second half of their MOS school for becoming a 0861 learn Naval Gunfire before heading out to San Clemente for some live fire practice. These salvos were some of the first to impact the deck. I'm aware that whoever was controlling these was all jacked up, but they were new to it, so it was expected. The cut in the land was around 750m away, or for the arty-versed, approximately danger close for the 5" HE salvos. If you listen to the radio, you can hear most of the transmission and corrections.

Naval vessels guns tested at Rzhevka firing range
In 2011, the Rzhevka firing range will mark its 155th anniversary. It tests guns for all types of naval vessels. The range tests guns of all calibers that are used in the Navy: from 20mm to 125mm inclusive. Each cannon passes a test program. Only then can an artillery system be delivered to a ship. The range covers an area of 80000 hectares and has special rigs on which artillery is mounted for checking.

UAVs Suck: US Army O-1 Bird Dog AFACs Call-In US Navy 8" Cruiser Guns!
You won't be seeing BS Predator UAVs doing this, either! The Vietnam generation knew how to get 24/7/365 air surveillance and attack--how do you think we killed so many VC/NVA? www.combatreform.org www.combatreform.org Today's generation weary of dealing with monstrous pilot egos have let the fighter-bomber jocks and the rotorheads squeeze the observation/attack (O/A) plane out of existence, so today we cannot get responsive naval gunfire support (NGFS)--which is also fine with the "aircraft carrier mafia" that doesn't want battleships to threaten their meal ticket and ego wagon. www.combatreform.org Maybe someday civilians will understand these things and see that they are being taken for a ride and will drop their false hero worship that attempts to masks their guilt over their lack of national defense direct involvement and DEMAND AN EFFECTIVE US MILITARY.

Oto Melara 76mm Strales naval gun system
The STRALES system represents an evolution for the 76/62 naval artilleries which includes: a 76/62 naval gun, DART guided ammunition and a Radio Frequency Guidance System with associated electronics. This System is the most effective response to the emerging requirements for medium calibre naval guns, demanding the highest level of lethality within evolving scenarios in Air Defence as well as in Anti Surface actions. STRALES is extremely effective against today generation of anti-ship missiles and also in ASuW, especially where simultaneous engagement of multiple manoeuvring targets is involved, cooperating with the unique sustained firing capability of 76mm gun. DART is a sub-calibre projectile with canard which is directed to the target by the guidance beam generated by an antenna placed on the gun mount within a protective shield Its effectiveness is further increased by pre-fragmented warhead and 3AP microwave programmable fuze. To fulfil the new challenging requirements like manoeuvring anti-ship missiles even the supersonic ones, Oto Melara has developed the DART (Driven Ammunition with Reduced Time of flight) guided projectile, capable to be re-vectored towards the target during its time of flight. DART ammunition can be fired by the 76mm Strales system, that presents new features: - double ammunition feeding system, - digital console - guidance antenna - gun shield r - electronic equipment specifically designed for the DART ammunition guidance.

Mark 42 5"/54 Caliber Naval Gun (127mm) Tour and Gun Shoot
Includes, loading and operations inside the powder magazine and the gun house. Featuring Mount 52 Gunners Mate GMG2 Dennis Jones as the narrator and tour host Filmed on the Adams Class Destroyer USS Cochrane DDG-21 somewhere in the Pacific circa 1988. The Mark 42 5"/54 Caliber Naval Gun is a naval gun (naval artillery) mount used by the United States Navy and other countries. It consisted of the Mark 18 gun and Mark 42 gun mount. United States naval gun terminology indicates the gun fires a projectile 5 inches (127.0 mm) in diameter, and the barrel is 54 calibers long (barrel length is 5" × 54 = 270" or 6.9 meters.) In the 1950s a gun with more range and a faster rate of fire than the 5"/38 caliber gun used in World War II was needed. The 5"/54 Mk 42 is an automatic, dual-purpose (air / surface target) gun mount. It is usually controlled remotely from the Mk 68 Gun Fire Control System, or locally from the mount at the One Man Control (OMC) station. The self-loading gun mount weighs about 60.4 long tons (61.4 t) including two drums under the mount holding 40 rounds of semi-fixed case type ammunition. The gun fires 31.75 kg (70.0 lb) projectiles at a velocity of 2650 ft/s (807.7 m/s). Maximum rate of fire is 40 rounds per minute. Magazine capacity is 599 rounds per mount. It was the last major caliber gun system with the ability to be fired from local control by an operator in the gun mount. Video from YouTube user Billgx. Yamato Museum - Kure City Japan
The yamato was the biggest battleship ever built. It was built by the empire of japan in 1941. I only came to know recently about his fact and became quite curious to its development, structure and all mystery surrounding this magnificent vessel. During my stay in Hiroshima I found some time to make a visit to the Yamato museum in Kure City which is about a 40 minute trainride from Hiroshima. Upon arrival I noticed a lot of senior people probably some war veterans as well but I was glad that everybody was polite and respectful. There was a scale model present which is a 1/10 scale. It is amazing to how many gun turrets and anti aircraft guns it houses. It is remarkable that the united states was able to sink it of the coast of kyushu the most western Japanese island by an air attack. It seems impenetrable to me. I got provided with an english audio tour which was pretty cool. Although I didn't notice any other foreigners at the museum. Specs of the Yamato: Yamato's main battery consisted of nine 18.1-inch 40 cm/45 Type 94 naval guns—the largest caliber of naval artillery ever fitted to a warship. Each gun was 21.13 metres (69.3 ft) long, weighed 147.3 metric tons (162.4 short tons), and was capable of firing high-explosive or armour-piercing shells 42.0 kilometres (26.1 mi). Her secondary battery comprised twelve 6.1-inch (15 cm) guns mounted in four triple turrets (one forward, one aft, two midships) and twelve 5-inch (13 cm) guns in six double-turrets (three on each ...
